Just to share the latest. I have gone to "manually" managing my music, videos, etc. on my iPhone, which, while painful has eliminated the problem for me. I was able to do some digging using a third party program called Wondershare SafeEraser and verify that when iTunes is synching music, something doesn't finish correctly and therefore leaves all the transferred music files as non-mp3 files. Therefore Music can't find them and the System storage seems them as some set of temporary files. I can actually delete them using SafeEraser and get the storage back. However using iTunes to synch automatically always results in them getting stuck as "system" temp files. So therefore reverting to manually managing has fixed it for me for about 4 weeks now. Clearly an iTunes / iOS bug of some sort that is nasty... hopefully a fix will come soon.
Well if it happened one time it is bound to happen again. How many times will I restore from iTunes ?
Until one month ago I was using Linux and had little or no access to iTunes . If I noticed this a month ago I would not have the privilege to use iTunes.
As per you what is other storage? I deleted Apps and their data in GBs. I deleted photos. The other categories had change but not the others.
There are many people affected by this bug.

I got the number from the top of the thread where people who search for this issue and mark Me too.
So that’s people who thought to use google search to find if this a known issue.
I m sure there are other users who would have upgraded their phones or took iCloud subscription to due to the (false)low memory.
OK, let's assume that only 1% of people who have this problem checked Me Too. That still means that it 0.04% of users. And I'm sure that more than 1% of people experiencing it would have reported it.
But it's clear that you just want to argue and not fix the problem. I'm not going to waste my time responding again.
Well I know many at work who tried what you said and still have the same issue. That’s why I have not even tried to fix the issue. I am not arguing with you. I am just saying what you have provided is not a permenant fix. You are just just arrogant.
That’s flat out untrue! My iOS hasn’t been updated for fear of losing EVEN MORE space. And my operating system is taking up almost 9gb of my hard drive. That’s ******* ridiculous. Apple calling this phone 16gb phone is just DOWN RIGHT FALSE ADVERTISING!!
It is, my iPhone 8+ was apparently low on space and it was telling me that I had 23 gb in system files and 11.8 gb in photos which could be optimised and backed in the cloud if I was willing to pay for a 200gb iCloud subscription. Bought the extra storage space on iCloud and miraculously my system files dropped to 10 gb. 3 months later the same problem, my iPhone was once again low on space with a 33gb occupied by system files. Why do you think that Apple is clearly avoiding the subject, have we all forgotten about the battery scandal?
What makes you say Apple is avoiding the subject? Did you call Apple, or use the Contact Support link at the top of this page? What did they say when you did contact them? This is a user-to-user forum; Apple does not participate here, so it's not surprising that Apple hasn't posted anything in the forum.
We are all facing the same problem. mine is a 64GB, and system is taking 57GB. madness. mine is an iPhone 6S.
Apple just simply ignores us and only upvote replies which rebuff the problem.
what is the point of having a forum and discussion but the staff are selective of what they reply or report back up the chain.
This actually worked at first I had my system storage take up 20 gb of my storage out of 32 and had like 12 gbs left but after I did the trick my system storage only took up 7 gbs and I had a whopping 25 gbs left on my phone. This works trust me.
I have a brand new iPhone X 64gb...FIVE to be exact...and guess how much system storage is taking up...when I ripped the SIM card out and put it back in my 7...it was at 60gb of system storage.
THIS IS NOT OKAY APPLE!!! I have wiped the phone and replaced the phone and let Apple into my phone to do screen grabs and still no different only worse.
I don’t have what’s app or anything else this time because I give up on trusting that phone is going to work.
Someone help!
What am I supposed to do... I have an iPhone 6 SE with 16GB of storage, I'm still running IOS 11.4.1 I think, I really don't know the version, but really, this is an exaggeration, I can't really download anything, and I will say it in spanish... ESTO ES UN DESCARO POR PARTE DE APPLE. My system occupies 10.72 GB from my storage, and the only (literally) the only app that I have is whatsapp which occupies 2.88 GB from my memory, I already deleted pictures, videos, documents, caches, etc. I DON'T EVEN HAVE INSTAGRAM. I am really mad at apple, and disappointed. Please if someone can help me...
Thank you
I did completely reset the iPad and it's still taking huge amounts of GB, just because drugs are acceptable it doesn't mean it wont hurt your brain Apple! Seriously, there have been lots of complaints. I did what you recommended and it was a joke and waste of time.
As I said above, go to settings / general / Reset / Erase all Content and Settings. Restore from backup - so make sure you have a backup before doing the above. I had a backup in iCloud so it was easy.
Only thing that fixed my problem
