iPhone System taking up storage space
[Re-Titled by Host]
Hi, with no disrespect, I have also found that my system on my iPhone is taking up 9GB on my phone and I only have 16GB. So it does take up space on my phone. If you know a way to fix this please suggest it.
Anyone notice the amount of iOS system space might appear to be based on actual hard drive size and have nothing to do with actual system files during iOS updates, etc.? A 16gb and 64gb phone should have about the same amount of system space used (relatively speaking) - but that might not be the case. Seems the 16gb users may have 5-10 used and others with larg(er) hard drives seem to have a percentage of as much (50-75%) being used for "other" to the tune of up to 100gb. Seriously? When we all updated to the latest version of iOS, my phone should have stored as much as the next. Something smells here....
Non of this is helping. Sorry I don't seem to be able to post a comment independently of your reply box. Anyway, I hoped support communities could come up with a solution rather than endless complaints. I really wish apple was looking at this!!!!!
Ditto. Has anyone come up with a solution yet? I reset my phone (6s+/64 GB) to factory settings yesterday and restored from my backup. Less than half the memory was used right after I did this, but less than a day later, I'm getting "memory full" messages and "System" is taking up 40 GB!
Yes, it is too much. I have a 16GB iPhone with 8GB of use by "system". How is half the capacity of storage being used by the OS not too much? The operating system is great, but in 16GB devices, 1/2 is way too much. 50%.
It’s a scam. I have a 16gb iPhone, system takes up 8gb, as soon as I delete ALL OF MY APPS the system claimed that spaceso my iPhone is full again, being now 12gb.
People with higher storage iPhones have the same problem, if your phone is 62gb, it will take up to 40gb, whatever is necessary to fill up the storage capacity and trick you into buying a new iPhone.
#scam
Doing so freed 1gb for me, then I deleted all of my apps and the system claimed that space, enough to make my phone full again.
it is very obvious to me that this is a scam, people with higher storage iPhones are having the same problem, system space adjust to make your phone always full so you end up buying a new one. My system was 8gb in a 16gb iPhone, After deleting all my apps it is 12gb.... this is a joke, nobody likes a company treating you like you are stupid
My solution is a much more permanent one that you only need to do once. I simply got an android phone with 32GB and put a 128GB memory card in it. The freedom is fantastic, hope you all enjoy your apples 😂
I think this whole thread is completely disregarded by apple. I have used Apple products for many years, I have an iPad air 2, an apple watch, a MacBook and an iPhone 8 plus. The iPad is a 64GB edition, and over HALF of that storage is taken up by the category called "system storage" which means that YES, IN FACT, The system is using too much storage on my device which is the exact opposite of what the "apple recommended response" was to the original post. I've restored it, I have a BS in Computer Science and a masters in Computer Information systems, and this is extremely ridiculous. iOS 11 has fantastic features, don't get me wrong, but it has many very serious flaws and apple is not attempting to help with the issues they are causing or even trying to fix the major issues, rather than continuing to add more features. Using my best judgment, when you have over 3000 responses on a thread with most of them being people that are having an issue, then it needs to be fixed, rather than making the "recommended" response that there is no issue at all, even when there is visual proof that the system storage is taking uping ludicrous amounts of storage space.
I am using an iphone 7 with 32GB of storage. The past week, i was very low on storage and I tried to clear some of my apps. I just realised that the system is taking 17GB of my storage. This is not fair. What is system even? And how do I clear it up?
I have a 16 GB iPhone 6. 11.5 of those GB are used by system. I have no music on my phone, hardly any pictures and few apps that are not offloaded. I have two options for use on my phone. I can either download some TV or movies from Netflix or have 1 single game. This ***** and I can hardly use my phone for much. Someone please address this because the fact that I can have one game or a few downloads as the only function of my phone is pathetic.
the lead reply from Rysz was completely insolent, and the fact that it is Apple recommended shows a great deal of ignorance in Apple online support. it's the community of users that always provides the solutions. smdh.
That would be too obvious...
I don’t know where are you guys getting it but I just installed iOS 12 beta so I am not complaining about that as far as beta is not a finished work yet and can not be judged😊
^^Tried this, but did not recover any storage, and spent an hour resetting all my settings. :-( This seems to be a not-one-answer-fits-all situation. I'm thinking some of us got caught in a software bug during an upgrade and need to wait for the next upgrade/fix.
