The "Other Files" are the iOS system files. I guess the iOS has a bug that doesn't delete the previous versions files and it keeps "hoarding" it on the phone memory. What I would advise you to do is back up to iCloud and then erase all content and settings to factory settings. Then you set it as a "new iPhone" and after all done, you go to settings and check the space. The system files (Other Files) are likely to be reduced to somewhere around 5 Gb. Then you reset to factory settings again and restore your backup.

It worked for me. My "Other Files" was reduced in size from 15.2 Gb to 6.2 Gb..

^^^^^^TL;DR:

I frequently film hour long videos on my phone and keep a lot of space free on my phone so that I can do this when I need to. I waited a long time to upgrade to iOS 11.4 from iOS 10. After upgrading, filming an hour long video, and deleting it, my "System Storage" went from 4-5 gigs to 23 gigs. Surely when I delete things permanently, the new iOS is putting it in the System Storage.

Please fix this bug 😟

Just upgraded to 11.4.1 with no change to mysterious System storage taking 38% of my total storage. Apple has not anything.

Why would you expect 11.4.1 to change anything? The update information just lists 2 changes, one involving AirPods and one affecting MS Exchange email. Storage is not mentioned. So you should troubleshoot the issue yourself, as it is an issue with your phone.

Well if it happened one time it is bound to happen again. How many times will I restore from iTunes ?

Until one month ago I was using Linux and had little or no access to iTunes . If I noticed this a month ago I would not have the privilege to use iTunes.

As per you what is other storage? I deleted Apps and their data in GBs. I deleted photos. The other categories had change but not the others.

There are many people affected by this bug.

It is, my iPhone 8+ was apparently low on space and it was telling me that I had 23 gb in system files and 11.8 gb in photos which could be optimised and backed in the cloud if I was willing to pay for a 200gb iCloud subscription. Bought the extra storage space on iCloud and miraculously my system files dropped to 10 gb. 3 months later the same problem, my iPhone was once again low on space with a 33gb occupied by system files. Why do you think that Apple is clearly avoiding the subject, have we all forgotten about the battery scandal?

I have a brand new iPhone X 64gb...FIVE to be exact...and guess how much system storage is taking up...when I ripped the SIM card out and put it back in my 7...it was at 60gb of system storage.

THIS IS NOT OKAY APPLE!!! I have wiped the phone and replaced the phone and let Apple into my phone to do screen grabs and still no different only worse.

I don’t have what’s app or anything else this time because I give up on trusting that phone is going to work.

Someone help!

What am I supposed to do... I have an iPhone 6 SE with 16GB of storage, I'm still running IOS 11.4.1 I think, I really don't know the version, but really, this is an exaggeration, I can't really download anything, and I will say it in spanish... ESTO ES UN DESCARO POR PARTE DE APPLE. My system occupies 10.72 GB from my storage, and the only (literally) the only app that I have is whatsapp which occupies 2.88 GB from my memory, I already deleted pictures, videos, documents, caches, etc. I DON'T EVEN HAVE INSTAGRAM. I am really mad at apple, and disappointed. Please if someone can help me...

Thank you
