Lightning Digital AV Adapter iOS 11

This used to work with my ipad. after installing iOS 11, video no longer plays on the TV.

I see the ipad home screen and video selections on the TV, but when I select a video to watch, the video still plays on the ipad, but nothing on the TV. Only the header and footers will appear and sound, but no video. please fix ASAP!

Hi barberb,

Thanks for posting your question in the Apple Support Community. I understand that you're not seeing any video on the TV when you connect your iPad. I like being able to use my TV to watch content from my iPad and iPhone and I'm happy to help.

Is this happening with every app that you try to play video content from or just within certain apps? If it's only happening in certain apps, it's possible that the content is being blocked by that provider or app. I also recommend to take a look at the following info to troubleshoot this issue:

Get help

Find out what to do when you have the following issues.

If you see video but can't hear audio

Make sure that you're using a Digital AV adapter (which has an HDMI port). If you're using a VGA adapter, it doesn't carry audio signals. To hear audio with a VGA adapter, you need to connect to the headset jack on your TV, monitor, projector, or stereo.

If an app doesn't display video or play audio

The app might not be compatible with your adapter. Check compatibility on the app's info page in the App Store or contact the developer.

If an alert says that an HDCP-compatible device is required

Your content might not be compatible with your adapter. Movies, TV shows, and certain streaming video apps require High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP). If you try to play these movies, shows, and streaming videos using a non-HDCP digital connection—like the Apple VGA Adapter—an alert will ask for an HDCP-compatible device.

If you need help with other issues

  1. Disconnect and reconnect your adapter from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch and from your TV, monitor, or projector.
  2. Make sure that your VGA or HDMI cable works, since the issue could be with the cable.
  3. Remove any VGA or HDMI extension cables or converters. Accessories that convert a VGA or HDMI signals to different video formats (DVI, Composite, Component) aren't compatible.
  4. Make sure that you have the latest version of iOS.

So, just to be clear, if an issue didn’t happen to you, it’s false. Sounds like someone we know?

This issue happen the day the iPad Pro 12.9 G2 was updated from IOS 10.3.3 to 11.0.3.

It occured on both an LG PF 1500W projector and a Samsung TV using a genuine lighting to HDMI converter and two different HDMI cables.

The borders of the Netflix page is displayed but the video is frozen and blurry.

We just ran into this with SLING and the digital hdmi lightning adapter. Wife upgraded to IOS11 today and now can no longer stream to our television. Gives a “video content blocked due to actively recording or screen mirroring” message and can only hear audio. I, fortunately have NOT upgraded to IOS11, and mine still works just fine. This is ridiculous and the only reason I can see is the push for people to buy Apple TV’s. Extremely disappointed here... Thanks Apple!!!

I have this problem too, and use Netflix and AmazonPrime to stream offline at home. We don't have good internet and live in a rural area. I called Netflix and they said no changes had been made on their end. Called Apple and they said nothing should be causing the problem, however, I was told to take my device and lightning AV cable/plug to an Apple Store to get them to work on it. Nearest Apple store is an hour away...very unhappy with this issue...no problems until I updated to IOS 11...AmazonPrime works, but Netflix doesn't. Can see the screen on the TV, but as soon as I try to play the TV picture freezes but audio can be heard. As soon as the video is stopped, but picture returns. PLEASE FIX!!!!

Well,

THAT's a whole different issue!

I've never downloaded Netflix content directly to my iDevices.

Is this extra cash to be able to do this?

I never tested for this.

I just use my adapter for streaming Netflix content to my TV, NOT to download the Netflix movie/TV content onto my iDevices directly.

Maybe a DRM issue, then.

Netflix only lets you watch downloaded content on mobile devices ONLY?

Or were you able to watch downloaded content from Netflix to your TV using the digital adapter before iOS 11?

Could it be that Netflix changed their DRM policies?

You can no longer stream Apple iTunes movie/TV content stored on external storage device and streamed from that an external storage device because Apple changed their DRM policies.

Same sort of situation with Netflix, now?

Hi, Merry Christmas from Brazil ...

I have the same problem here with my iPad with no satisfactory explanation from NetFlix or Apple. I‘ve used to download a few movies or TV seasons to my iPad Pro and connect to a TV when traveling to our summer place with no internet ... not anymore. We tried via Airplay/Apple TV and also via HDMI/connectors with no luck.

As soon as we make the connection the movie freeze the image and we continue to have audio.

I really hope Apple monitors the communities discussions and fix this problem.

Best to all, Zeca./
