Yahoo email not working in mail app with iOS 11

I had this issue with one yahoo account while the others worked fine. Deleting and reinstalling it didn’t help. I changed it’s fetch new data setting from fetch to manual and scrolled to the bottom to the oldest emails and scrolled back to the top and it updated.

My other yahoos fetch settings that we’re set at manual never had a problem.

I was able to get this to work on my kid's ipads... instead of putting "imap.mail.yahoo.com" on the imap line, I put the IP address, 216.155.194.49 (at the time, I'm sure this NATs internally to something else), and suddenly BAM! email's started popping up...

Even the adding of an account using the imap service didn’t work... when my account finally started working I had three unread email from yahoo saying “sign in attempt prevented”... thanks yahoo.

I did get a reply from another person here which helped. Go to yahoo under security n settings and allow 3rd party mail apps. It’s not 100% but much better. Bottom line it’s an issue since 11.0 update and yahoo mail fetching. Time for me to consider ditching Apple or yahoo or both. I ONLY say that because it’s unacceptable after several updates there is no resolve. And clearly it’s a major problem which no update or yahoo seems willing t o fix after months of this nonsense.

Yea 1 week ago is about when it started for me when I logged onto my laptop and saw 17 unread (important) emails. No idea what happened here but does not seem iOS related, I had no changes on my phone prior to this not refreshing. I did the imap/pop thing 2-3 times, deleted accounts 2-3 times, reset phone, updated software and same issue. The imap manual setup can get it to work for 2-3 hours then it fails again as noted. Really frustrating. I hate yahoo but I am pretty committed to it after using for 10+ years. Anyways I set up a forwarding to my gmail from yahoo and it works great, I'll be using that feature as I slowly change over everything to my gmail over the next year or so.

TL:DR - yahoo ***** switch to gmail and forward your yahoo to your new gmail in the meantime.

This seemed to have worked for me (for the time being):

Open the Yahoo mail webpage from your desktop. Go to Account Info (click on the gear icon/help in the upper right hand corner and Account Info is at the bottome of the popup menu). Once you're at the Account Info page, on the left hand side click on Account Security. Turn off "Allow apps that use less secure sign in." If it's already off, turn it on and see if it makes a difference. Finally, for good measure, remove your Yahoo mail account from your iPhone and reinstall using the default settings.

This has allowed me to fetch email on my iPhone for about 6 hours now, the longest stretch in days. We'll see if it still works tomorrow...

POSSIBLE SOLUTION... I have this issue currently and for at least the past few weeks. Based off of one of the other comments I decided to try and turn OFF two-factor authentication. So far this is working, although I'd prefer it work with two-factor on.

Per the yahoo support page you need to do the opposite of what is being recommended by @oasisg9.

Yahoo recommendation is delete Account in Apple App and add it back.

Yahoo actually now requires Account Key to be setup for Apple App. If you delete your yahoo Acct and try to add it back in Apple app - it would force you to setup Account Key. I have done this now lets see how it works.

Earlier I did not have Account Key neither for Apple App or my Ymail account itself - it did not work. So lets see now.

My husband had the problem on his iphone 6 as well and was very frustrated; it started before the iOS update. He deleted and re-uploaded Yahoo, and it also updated the iOS to 11. Still no inbox updating. Today I asked him to check his spam file after reading some of the other comments. It was indeed populated. When he went back to his inbox it updated!

Solved it, at least for me. I deleted the yahoo account, and set it up manually. Since I can’t paste to this site, you’ll have to look up the settings yourself. I searched “Yahoo doesn’t work with iOS mail”. You should get a response with SLN3702 as part of the title. I used info from there (a Yahoo website I hope) to get it setup. I can now send emails from my Yahoo Acct using iOS mail app.

I had the same problem as Jeff. This solution (although directed at a slightly different problem) worked for me:

I find that if you log into yahoo mail through a browser, all missing emails start to appear on the iPhone. Once you log out and try to let the iPhone go solo, it's just a matter of days until you notice that you're not getting email anymore. And the vicious cycle starts again.

I am on the lated 11.2.5 on my iPhone 7 and the problem is still there

• Inbox does not update even if I pull it down to refresh. last emails show from Sunday, today is tuesday and I can see from a browser I have a bunch of emails since then.
• If I kill the mail app nothing happens
• If I turn of/on my iPhone nothing happens
• If I switch wifi offnothing happens
• If I switch mobile off nothing happens
• If I switch to airplane mode and back nothing happens

The only way to make it works is to either Hard shut down the phone (holding power and vol down) or removing the account and adding it again.

Also downloading the Yahoo mail app fixes it but I don't want to use that.

My understanding is that he means the feature that says 'Allow apps that use less secure sign-in'. Toggle that to ON

I disabled the Account Key and changed my password. Yahoo mail now works fine on my iphone 8. It was a pain to get to this point!
