Yahoo email not working in mail app with iOS 11

My yahoo email is not updating the inbox after I upgraded to iOS 11.0.1. The junk (spam) email still works but not the inbox. I have removed it and rebooted several times. The yahoo mail app works fine but I do not want to use it permanently. Any thoughts?

iPhone 7, iOS 11.0.1

I would like to share with everyone my solution to this problem, as I had been experiencing the exact same issue for the last few months. I have read through this entire thread and through everyone's comments. The following steps are guranteed to fix your problem:

1) Delete your current yahoo mail account on your iphone

settings

  • accounts & passwords
    • yahoo
      • delete account

2) Sign into your yahoo mail account from any computer (mail.yahoo.com)

Once signed in, go up to the top right corner and place the mouse icon over your name (in between the settings and the home icons,) and a window will pop up. Click on 'Account Info.'

  • On the top left corner, click the 'Account Security' icon
    • At the top, if you have your Yahoo Account Key enabled, YOU MUST DISABLE THE YAHOO ACCOUNT KEY
      • After disabling the Account Key, you will see multiple previously hidden options open up on the Account Security page. At the very bottom of the page, enable the option that says 'Allow Apps That Use Less Secure Sign In.' (Leave this page up, as you will need to come back to it for the last step)

3) Create a new yahoo mail account on your phone

settings

  • accounts & passwords
    • add account
      • yahoo (follow the step by step instructions)

4) Your yahoo mail should now be working normally through your apple mail app on your iphone, however I would send a test email to yourself just to make sure

5) Finally, go back to your computer to the Yahoo Account Security page that you previously left open, and this time, DISABLE the option that says 'Allow Apps That Use Less Secure Sign In.'

If done correctly, these steps will fix the problem, while not compromising your security. The biggest issue is the Yahoo Account Key.

Whether it is Apple or Yahoo's configuration problems, it AT&T's problem, too. I did, however, find the following website, which indicates that it is Yahoo's servers that are, presently, and have been down for the past week, and, intermittently, it seems, since the merger of AT&T and Yahoo. In my case, the incoming mail is painfully slow; but the critical problem is that my Mail program on Mac OS X puts mail I send in the "Sent" folder, but it doesn't go anywhere - not even visible on webmail in "Sent" or anywhere else. Also had strange things showing up in my "Spam" folder (like email from me to me!). Check out this "down detector" and read the comments. This is ridiculous, and costly; and I will not let this sleeping dog lie without contacting every government agency and administrative offices until it is resolved. I also think we should be credited on our bills. Hope all is resolved very soon. http://downdetector.com/status/yahoo-mail/news/173995-problems-at-yahoo-mail-5

I followed the advice of one of the posters to enable Yahoo Account Key and download Yahoo Mail app. Even though they don't call it a Two-Step Verification, in fact, it is exactly that. Now to get a web access to Yahoo mail I have to type in a code sent by SMS or by a pop-up from Yahoo mail app. I have also enabled the Allow apps that use less secure sign in option.

After that, I deleted Yahoo mail on both my iPhone and iPad and re-created them using built-in Yahoo as a provider. Everything started working at first. Later I turned off the use of Yahoo Account Key so now I can log into Yahoo mail within a browser using my original password. Yahoo mail continued working on my iPhone and iPad but later I ran into problems on iPad.

Yahoo mail does not download on iPad! Today (Thursday) I checked my Inbox only to find out the latest emails shown date back to Monday. I don't know why Yahoo does not work on iPad the way it does on iPhone. Later today I managed to force Yahoo to download on iPad but it took a lot of effort. The bottom line is the above method does not reliably work on iPad.

Iphone6 11.2.2 - this was happening even before latest update

Same problem, totally erratic behavior - many different issues, I have 2 Yahoo Accts both different behavior, one acct will be working fine not other, then vice versa. Right now 1 Acct is working fine, other totally stopped, but both work fine in iPad- totally weird behavior:

  1. Mails vanish- somehow I last 6 months emails will vanish on the iphone, somehow they will slowly update back (it has happened many times)
  2. Mails dont update - sometimes over a day
  3. Calendar does not sync

Apple you need to look into this urgently - very critical problem

Based on what i see, this cannot be a yahoo issue. Not only my yahoo webmail works fine, it also works fine on my iPad. Also I do not any Pop Account. This is a iPhone issue.

Spoke to Apple Support - only thing they could suggest is setup my phone a New (not restore from backup) and then see what happens. I did not agree to setup a New (of course) but reset my phone from backup. Lets see how many days till the issue recurs (I hope not).

(Something is wrong with this site itself - the editor does not let me select/highlight - using Edge)

I recently installed the Outlook mail app and it seems to have a nice, clean interface and is, of course, Exchange friendly as well. In fact, it reminds me a lot of Apple Mail. Perhaps Outlook would be better choice than the Yahoo app. Note, however, that I have not used it extensively since it's my wife that has the Yahoo account. One thing I like about the Yahoo app is that you can "mark as spam" fairly easily with it. My gmail account almost NEVER receives spam, but my wife gets tons of spam in her Yahoo mail.

I could finally add back my account after rebooting the phone. So back to square 1 (or 2).

  1. I had issues so first I added 'Security Key' - as suggested by Yahoo Help - did not help.
  2. Next I tried this app specific password - could not implement it. I think if you already have security key setup - it forces you down that path. Also App password and Security Key seem to be similar concepts- so probably one or the other. Did not help
  3. I have another yahoo account - have done nothing with it. It has similar issues as my other account. So trying all these has made no difference.😕

But my issues are sporadic and brief, unlike some are reporting permanent and long. For me these issues happen about once a week (or less) and last for a few hours to a day- then back to normal. I have backup Yahoo mail app.😀

I been having same problem with my Yahoo via mail configured on my phone. when I use apple mail on iPhone 7 with iOS 11.2.5(15D60) yahoo email dose not work. It dose not download all my yahoo email. It shows there are mail and it’s downloading but nothing shows in my inbox. This is been going on for fast couple months and last two updates. I took it into apple store and they tell me I need to contact Yahoo.

I told them

It works fine on the computer and even using yahoo mail app. But Apple never think it’s their problem.

Looks like yahoo has turned everything off right now to access their servers unless using their app. I’ve tried setting up imap thru iPhone mail manually, selecting the Yahoo! option, setting it up in iPhone outlook app and all I get is server unavailable or not responding. Very frustrating because I don’t want to use their app with annoying advertisements.

Yahoo's (mail) servers are not "down" -- I've had a steady stream of mail on my phone since deprecating the Apple Mail app and replacing it with Y!'s on Friday. Mail via WWW is similarly non-disrupted. What MIGHT be down (or more likely, disabled) is the apparatus Y! uses to authenticate access to mail via the Apple app. Where are you seeing this notification/information?

Yahoo is totally broken on iPhone/Apple. I have tried everything for last 2 months - nothing seems to work consistently - that is the problem. WebMail and apps are not in Sync - delete/read does not sync up. To top it Contacts and Calendar are totally broken.

It does not matter problem is at Apple or Yahoo - they need to work together and sort this out - blaming each other is not helping any of the users.

Yahoo Mail app is also not the solution - to begin with it has bad UI (icons and lack of multi-select), no Calendar and Contacts - what have they been thinking😕.

Lot of us have grew with Yahoo last 20++ years - hard to let it go. But end seems near/inevitable at the current rate😟.
