Yahoo email not working in mail app with iOS 11

My yahoo email is not updating the inbox after I upgraded to iOS 11.0.1. The junk (spam) email still works but not the inbox. I have removed it and rebooted several times. The yahoo mail app works fine but I do not want to use it permanently. Any thoughts?

iPhone 7, iOS 11.0.1

I would like to share with everyone my solution to this problem, as I had been experiencing the exact same issue for the last few months. I have read through this entire thread and through everyone's comments. The following steps are guranteed to fix your problem:

1) Delete your current yahoo mail account on your iphone

settings

  • accounts & passwords
    • yahoo
      • delete account

2) Sign into your yahoo mail account from any computer (mail.yahoo.com)

Once signed in, go up to the top right corner and place the mouse icon over your name (in between the settings and the home icons,) and a window will pop up. Click on 'Account Info.'

  • On the top left corner, click the 'Account Security' icon
    • At the top, if you have your Yahoo Account Key enabled, YOU MUST DISABLE THE YAHOO ACCOUNT KEY
      • After disabling the Account Key, you will see multiple previously hidden options open up on the Account Security page. At the very bottom of the page, enable the option that says 'Allow Apps That Use Less Secure Sign In.' (Leave this page up, as you will need to come back to it for the last step)

3) Create a new yahoo mail account on your phone

settings

  • accounts & passwords
    • add account
      • yahoo (follow the step by step instructions)

4) Your yahoo mail should now be working normally through your apple mail app on your iphone, however I would send a test email to yourself just to make sure

5) Finally, go back to your computer to the Yahoo Account Security page that you previously left open, and this time, DISABLE the option that says 'Allow Apps That Use Less Secure Sign In.'

If done correctly, these steps will fix the problem, while not compromising your security. The biggest issue is the Yahoo Account Key.

I have also uninstalled/reinstalled several times. I have contacted Apple support that told me uninstall/reinstall...didn't word so advised contacting yahoo to reboot the server for the affected account. My child has the same issue. HOW do I contact yahoo support to get the served rebooted is what I would like to know. I have already wasted soooo much time on this nonsense.

Using app-specific passwords

App-specific passwords allow you to sign in to your account securely when you use third-party apps with your Apple ID.

App-specific passwords are single-use passwords for your Apple ID that let you sign in to your account and securely access the information you store in iCloud from a third-party app. For example, use app-specific passwords with Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, or other mail, contacts, and calendar services not provided by Apple. App-specific passwords maintain a high level of security and help ensure your Apple ID password won’t be collected or stored by any third-party apps you use.

To generate and use app-specific passwords, your Apple ID must be protected with two-factor authentication.

You also need an app-specific password for your devices that use Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 and earlier or iOS 5 and earlier. If you don’t have devices that can be updated to iOS 9 or OS X El Capitan, you can set up two-step verification and generate app-specific passwords.

Generate an app-specific password

  1. Sign in to your Apple ID account page.
  2. In the Security section, click Generate Password below App-Specific Passwords.
  3. Follow the steps on your screen.

After you generate your app-specific password, enter or paste it into the password field of the app as you would normally.

Manage app-specific passwords

You can have up to 25 active app-specific passwords at any given time. If you need to, you can revoke passwords individually or all at once.

  1. Sign in to your Apple ID account page.
  2. In the Security section, click Edit.
  3. In the App Specific Passwords section, click View History.
  4. Click User uploaded file next to a password you want to delete, or Revoke All.

After you revoke a password, the app using that password will be signed out of your account until you generate a new password and sign in again.

Any time you change or reset your primary Apple ID password, all of your app-specific passwords are revoked automatically to protect the security of your account. You'll need to generate new app-specific passwords for any apps that you want to continue using.

All this on and on round and round seems to be utter nonsense. No other way to describe it.

Yahoo is trying to do its own 2-factor and app validation, parallel Apple is trying to do its own. None of them are solving the problem.

I originally tried setting up 'Secure Key' for my iPhone App - (as originally suggested by Yahoo) - did not help at all.

Now this new Yahoo thing "Create App Specific Password". You cant even do this, only way to do this is you have to delete the Yahoo Account in the iPhone App and then try recreate it (there is no other way to update the password). The directions state 'update password'.

I went this route - now the account does not get added in the iPhone App - as it says account already exists. I don't know if it (mistakenly) referring to the acct I just deleted or to the Account I have with the Yahoo Mail app (I have this). Also it asks for 'Secure Key' and not the "App Specific Password" which I had just created.

So now I am left without yahoo account on my iPhone App. Maybe (in all likelihood) this was the ultimate objective of Yahoo and had to go thru all this to achieve their goal.

What utter nonsense.

This whole thing about additional security is total crap, either your mail should be working or not - nothing in between - sometime working sometimes not.
