Album cover won't show in Finder

Album covers of mp3/aac files won't show in Finder after upgraded to macOS 10.13.

All of my 3 Macs have the same issue.

I believe it's not a special case but a system bug....or it's not?

Anyone experiencing the same problem?

It's so obvious, I don't know how could this happen...

And, yet I don't know how to report the issue besides the old feedback site, which I've reported several bugs and no one cares...

This issue has been fixed in 10.13.2 (confirmed at my Mac mini 2014, two MacBook Pro 13'' 2015).

If you're experiencing some fixed, some not problem, it may relate to the system cache, try some tool which can rebuild the cache files.

I'm changing this topic to solved.

After all still very disappointed that Apple took so long to fix such a obvious yet (should) can be fixed easily problem.

Considering the huge bugs happened to macOS, iOS, watchOS(extremely slow), really frustrating.

I have the same symptoms. I'm not sure if it's related to MacOS High Sierra or iTunes 12.7. (I am using both.)

If you find the song in iTunes, control-click on it, and choose "Show in Finder", the artwork is still not visible.

But instead if you control-click the song and choose "Show Album in Library" then you can see the artwork from within iTunes.

Conclusion till 20171008:

This issue happens to fresh installed macOS 10.13 (not sure if it also affects upgraded Macs from 10.12).

Reinstall iTunes 12.7.0 can temporarily evade this issue, but it will happen again if you reboot.

I'm not sure it's a Finder/System problem or iTunes problem.

Sure thing is, it is a bug that cannot be fixed by ordinary users...

Ugh... I might made a bad start about saying this is relevant to iTunes...

I'm sure, like 80% sure, it is a Finder/Quicklook issue.

Also, by saying reinstall iTunes, I didn't mean you have to uninstall it first...

You just need to reinstall it. Temporarily fix the Finder won't show album art problem(until next reboot).

But, it won't solve the problem that the quicklook cannot show the track info issue.

First I upgraded my macOS to 10.13.1 (from 10.13.0) and after installed, I update my iTunes to 12.7.1.
I notice that everything is working BUT if I restart my Macbook Pro, the covers still are showed. But if I changed the visualization or if I press the tab key to previous visualization, the covers disappeared! 😟

hi ebatalha, believe me, if you are a music passionate and you take the time and effort to add the covers to each track, you want to see them ...

I did downgrad as soon as apple made sierra available again (because they removed it...) and since then it solved the album art issue and the temperature issue (fans working full speed constantly).

You need to have Sierra or a backup of your system ( Time Machine or clone )

Make a USB bootable of Sierra and you can downgrade easily .

I have downgrade my macbook pro with an USB and i have restore with my time capsule.

For the moment i let my iMac on High Sierra, i will see how many times Apple will make before fix it !

After 10.13.2 beta 3, I could save new audio files and have cover art show, or re drag cover art into an old file via a tag editor, and have it show up in finder. But dam if I'm going to do that with hundreds and hundreds of songs that can't really be batch written. The existing files still show a generic icon. But unless it's a fluke, it is going in the right direction. If only I could shock the old ones to show somehow. Then again, like the above comment, it may be a fluke.

That will fix it...until you reboot the computer. After that the com.apple.MediaLibraryService doesn’t restart and the problem persists. Unfortunately, unless you want to reinstall iTunes every time you boot up the computer, that doesn’t fix the problem.

I am dealing with support and so far all they could tell is to downgrade..

Actually, music files will show the album art until they are played in itunes.

I noticed that after install iTunes, the service com.apple.MediaLibraryService is running.

When you reboot your MacBook this service is not started.

I have tried to solve this problem, but I dont have a complete solution yet.

But here is what I have found out after installing macOS 10 times to find a solution..

The earlier High Sierra beta worked fine, even on APFS filesystem.

I have now tested it in the GM (17A362a) on my 13" macbbok and 17A315i on my 15".

It seems to be broken after upgrading the system to the Release version of High Sierra.

The 10.13.1 Beta 1 upgrade did not do anything for me.

After upgrade to macOS High Sierra all the covers of my mp3 files disappeared in some point.
I did a clean install and still not showing the covers of my mp3 files.
After that, I did a downgrade to Sierra, then all the covers of my mp3 files was showed. So I upgrade to High Sierra and the covers was showed until some reboots. After that, disappeared again.
Now I'm using Sierra again. 😟

I have the same thing , since upgrade in MacOS High Sierra. I have notice the same thing with songs in a usb key!

When i use Tag Editor, i saw the cover.

Problem is in the OS.
