Album cover won't show in Finder

Album covers of mp3/aac files won't show in Finder after upgraded to macOS 10.13.

All of my 3 Macs have the same issue.

I believe it's not a special case but a system bug....or it's not?

Anyone experiencing the same problem?

It's so obvious, I don't know how could this happen...

And, yet I don't know how to report the issue besides the old feedback site, which I've reported several bugs and no one cares...

I’ve tried reinstalling High Sierra from recovery and that only temporarily fixes the problem. After a reboot the album art disappears again. This is maddening as I’ve organized thousands of songs over many years and now they all display as gray icons.

I’ve escalated this to Apple engineering via Apple support, but so far they have no answer.

In my case, I cannot even downgrade, because sierra is completely gone from the store. And I don't have any OS backup.

Funny enough, two days ago on the chat with a tech, he sends me apple tutorials to downgrade and the link to sierra or the installer to create a bootable USB none of them was working - the guy felt quite embarrassed.

btw, my case too, "was escalated to engineering" two days ago. Today a tech called and amazingly they always start as they know nothing, then one points them to read the f*** case comments, then they will start sharing bit by bit what they have found on the case.

Overall, a real shame; the release, the support, and the price one pays for the product.

I don’t believe this is an iTunes issue.

However iTunes can be uninstalled on the Mac, it’s just a LOT more complex than the usual drag the icon to the trash bin (because macOS considers iTunes to be integral, I guess). However it can be done, and I have uninstalled it before while troubleshooting a problem on an earlier OS (Yosemite, I believe).

Try these steps here:

I believe that it is an iTunes issue!

Note:

I tried before to uninstall iTunes following a Sierra guide but didn't worked.
Than I try to reinstall (without uninstall) the iTunes downloading the dmg file in the iTunes site. And after install the iTunes, everything is working again.

I believe that some service (iTunes or other) not start with the macOS when you reboot your Macbook.

Thanks for sharing.

Despite many other bugs like while installing apps from MAS the icon in launchpad shows a weird white frame, this album issue is so obvious and irritating...

I also heard some cases that mp4 files cannot be opened in 10.13...

I reverted to 10.12.6 and have no tend to upgrade to 10.13 unless this issue is resolved..

Although it may not mean anything to Apple, I'm really frustrated this time...

Ugh... I might made a bad start about saying this is relevant to iTunes...

I'm sure, like 80% sure, it is a Finder/Quicklook issue.

Also, by saying reinstall iTunes, I didn't mean you have to uninstall it first...

You just need to reinstall it. Temporarily fix the Finder won't show album art problem(until next reboot).

But, it won't solve the problem that the quicklook cannot show the track info issue.

Yes, I agree that the symptom is on Finder, but is at least a little bit strange you reinstall iTunes and everything it's working again.
I believe that some service installed with iTunes is essencial to quicklook works on Finder. And after restart the machine, this service is not starting anymore.

For me, after reinstall the iTunes (without restart de machine), everything it's working (track cover and track infos).

Best,
