High Sierra freeze

the turned off automatic graphics switching is specific to MacBooks (I am on a Desktop) . For the other items, I don't know what is the correct way to rebuild most of the items you mention you did rebuild. The Onyxs help you do that?

The update works fine. I'm using an external 4K screen via hdmi.
I closed and opened the macbook and everything seems to be working fine. Only the crash at the beginning of the update was not normal, but I restarted and the the update was able to install.

And the sad thing is that now that Apple has released 10.13.1 with all the nice new important updates such as the new emojis we probably need to wait for several months for another update. Which probably does not fix this issue.

spk0, I agree with your affection for Snow Leopard, but recall that it was also quite buggy when it came out, not the great 10.6.8 that took a while to get polished. This is an unfortunate hiccup, but I hold out hope that HS will become the Snow Leopard of the recent vintages. Almost all the changes in 10.13 are deep plumbing and not user-facing. (Of course, change OS if you want. I'm sure you'll run into similar growing pains in them as well.)

This is consistent with quality control issues that I've encountered with Apple over the past ~3 years:

• Brand-new iMac comes out of the box with lines of dead pixels on the display (Apple Store agreed to repair but not replace)
• Malfunctioning hinge on brand-new MacBook Pro Touch Bar (Apple Store unwilling to even repair)
• Many well-reported glitches on the underpowered, $4,000 MacBook Pro Touch Bar
• Apple's awful, flimsy laptop power cables
• Planned obsolescence and occasional quality control problems on iPhones
• Countless software problems, OS stability issues, and glitches.

Apple's focus now is on pinching pennies in the Stores and the supply chain, targeting the upper segment of buyers, and releasing incremental improvements to the iPhones. I read Steve Jobs's biography again recently and it made me sad to see how far Apple has fallen from the days of trying to keep prices down and demanding product perfection.

Also started to experience system hangs, crashes and graphics glitches since upgrading to High Sierra my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014). Before the upgrade I didn't have any issues at all. System hangs occur 6-7 times a day, so this is a total productivity killer.

In addition, the system occasionally loses connection to the two external 4k monitors (1-2 times a day). Disconnecting and reconnecting cables will not help, only system restart helps. I'm running scaled resolutions on all three screens.

Same issue, now for the 7th time. In the system.log the last message:

Sure, the "stable" word, in my case, is because now I have a full workday without freezes. But yes, is just because I don't (in these days, at least) need to plug and unplug the external monitor.

It's better than 10.13.0, but not better than 10.12...

And before the end of the day High Sierra again freezes. Again the last lines in the Systemlog.

I have installed High Sierra 10.13.1 and I hope this will improve the stability a bit. But what I have read I have little hope.

Okay so I updated to 13.1

Newly installed chrome

updated vmware to fusion 10

reinstalled office

But still the problem persists...

Connecting to a 4k tv makes everyhting extremely slow while just watching a movie and casual browsing (never been a problem before)

Using matlab for simple coding with word and safari open freezes everything up... ***, and why is there still no word from apple after more than a week...

That is normal to Apple. These issues were already in the High Sierra public beta. Apple has known about them for atleast 6 months now and they still decided to release it. And Apple never speaks publicly about *any* bug in their products. Usually we just get to read about "something fixed" in the release notes. So far this has not been mentioned to be fixed in any release note.

Right. The updates have not yet solved my 2013 Mac Pro freezes. I would say they are much less often, so I feel this might be not just a single problem. Maybe I am just learning how to work in such a way to avoid them.

After 10.13.1 I don't have the problem at home where I use my MBPmid2012 with 4K external monitor using Display Port anymore. I was hoping it was resolved, however side effect is MBP started to use ventilators extensively.

But when I connect devices using HDMI graphics MBP display slowdowns to the freeze state. Interesting thing is that camera, microton and voice from web conference was working correctly in the same time but my screen just went frozen.
