Apple TV 4K audio out of sync

I have the 4K Apple TV hooked up directly to my LG OLED B7 tv. Whenever I play a video whether an iTunes video or Netflix, there is about a 3 second delay between when their lips move and the audio comes out. If I play the audio through my receiver via the optical out on my tv and it is delayed but also stutters. Music through my receiver from the Apple TV is fine though so it’s not some bad connection. Has anyone else had similar issues? I could fix the delay by doing an audio delay adjustment on my tv but one, that shouldn’t be necessary if everything is functioning properly and two, there would still be a stutter when playing audio through the receiver. Any ideas?

This solved it for us -- disable Dolby ATMOS in the sound settings of your LG TV. The AppleTV 4K doesn't support it (yet) and apparently it's causing a conflict.

We have an LG 65B7A connected via optical cable to a Pioneer VSXLX102 receiver. We have the 4k Apple TV connected directly to the TV via HDMI 3. I've set the receiver at -100ms and I'm still seeing the video ahead of the audio. I have Dolby Vision and Atmos disabled on the TV.

With most lip-sync issues I've encountered, the audio arrives before the video. I'm not sure about the Pioneer receiver, but on my Denon, a setting of -100ms would delay the audio and make the problem worse, not better. Are you still having this problem?

I have the same problem on the same TV.

I purchased a Belkin HDMI compatible with Dolby Vision as suggested on the Apple support forum and by a LG rep in our local AV store and it didn't make any difference.

I'm now wondering if it could be something to do with my internet connection speed although the picture quality and the sound quality is perfect its just the audio synching.

Please sort this out Apple i've just spent £2500 on this new set up and it's not working.

I have the same problem with my LG OLED E7 TV. Audio is out of sync by 3 or 4 seconds, regardless of the Video app I'm using (e.g., Netflix, HBO GO). I haven't tried disabling Dolby Vision yet, so perhaps that'll work (though I doubt it, and it shouldn't be required in any case). I strongly suspect this is an issue with the Apple TV rather than the TV. Hopefully a firmware update will become available soon to resolve this, as this behavior is unacceptable.

According to this Forbes article, the update started rolling out yesterday and is expected to be available everywhere by the 20th.

According to this article, the update adds "support for Dolby Atmos True HD playback over HDMI" ... I suspect this is the factor that solves the Apple TV 4K audio sync issues.

I have the same problem. I have an LG Oled E7 (2017). I’ve tried 3 different HDMI cables (including one purchased for $50 rip-off price at Apple Store).

HBO Go, Netflix 4K content, iTunes, all of these sources have severely out-of sync audio often filled with stutters and artifacts.

Apple has dropped the ball on their “It just works” slogan. iOS 11and Apple TV 4K, are probably some of apple’s poorest examples of QA.

They didn’t test this Apple TV 4K device with the latest and greatest OLED TVs of 2017? How?

Good question. ”It just works” means that when you replace an old Apple TV with a newer and more expensive model, you don’t get a regression in your experience. It means that if you have a pretty standard and modern setup, you don’t have to hop on a forum to find out why your device doesn’t work correctly. It means _you_ aka the _customer_ doesn’t have to do QA for a company the size of Apple who prides themselves in releasing things when the “technology is ready”. I pay the Apple tax not to have the fastest computer, or latest VR prototype-quality hardware like Microsoft’s mixed reality. I pay the Apple tax for something fully formed, tested, reliable, and easy to use with a beautiful design outside & inside.
