turn off safari suggestions in ios 11

In Safari for iOS 11, I sometimes get suggested search items that appear right above the keyboard when I try to type in the address bar. How can I turn this off?

Thanks!

I found a way to turn it off (sort of), but I very much doubt anyone -myself included- will like it. Besides, it only works on iPads, not iPhones. Anyways, if you split the keyboard you'll never see those suggestions again. You may have to enable that option first, under settings > General > Keyboard. (The gesture to split the keyboard is intuitive, but still, a bit tricky - I find it easier with one finger from each hand, instead of trying to "pinch" the keyboard apart with your thumb and index.)

Isn't this under Settings > Safari > (Search) > Safari Suggestions?

I've disabled this and I'm hoping it will get rid of the suggestions above the keyboard. I don't know what kind of algorithm they're using, but I sometimes get some pretty disturbing suggestions. Besides, I don't like tapping suggestions above the keyboard anyway. Search engine suggestions are perfectly fine.

I see what you’re saying. The search suggestions you’re referring to also appear after I actually type in the address bar, and the frequently visited sites also appear. I have not been clear. If you look right above the keyboard, there are two search suggestions - ‘Matt Groening’ and ‘Futurama’. These suggestions are related to the page you’re viewing, and sometimes seem to be chosen at random from the current page. How can you turn those off? So far I’ve found nothing that accomplished his.

Thank you!

No, I haven't. I asked Apple support and they suggested turning off 'Search Engine Suggestions' and 'Safari Suggestions' in Safari preferences, and then clearing history and website data. The suggestions were gone at first, but reappeared after I visited a few websites.

I've tried various combinations of turning off the Safari settings above and the Siri settings that Rysz suggested, in combination with clearing history and website data. None had a long-term effect. The only way I've found to avoid them is to use Google Chrome instead of Safari, which I'm not too keen on.
