System freezes since High Sierra

Hi,

since i upgraded to High Sierra i get random (every few houres) system freezes/slow downs. Everytime the mouse is still useable but the response needs quite a lot of time and sometimes there is no response at all. I had some freezes where the system recovers after 10 minutes and sometimes i had to do a hard reboot.

I thougt it might be an issue with the current release of High Sierra therefore i installed the 10.13.1 Beta, but the issue is still present.

I have no external drivers installed.

Has anyone an idea what i can do to track down what could cause such an issue?

I've written about my experiences earlier in this thread. I didn't have crash or freeze from 18 January to 26 January but on 27 January, I had two freezes during the day. Despair. However, the day after, the 10.13.3 update came out which I installed 27 January and have not had a crash since. The release document for 10.13.3 mentions freezes when connected to an SMB server - perhaps a clue(?).

Ok, I'm no expert, but the penny is maybe starting to drop a little now, I could be wrong, but I think the reason Apple is not doing anything about this problem, is because there is no problem as far as they are concerned, the problem comes when using such things as Parallels and other such software for running Windoze etc. Maybe its Apples way of slowing down or stopping the use of this kind of software to run a non native OS on their machines. Although why you'd want to run Windoze on anything is beyond me in the first place tbh

The problem for me has been solved by updating my external HDD's I use for for video editing and I don't use any software not designed by Apple for Apple. The net is closing and the sooner it does the better IMHO.

Well, as I posted not long ago, I had gone into an Apple Genius Bar and the tech guy assured me that there was nothing wrong with my MacBook Air. And of course it worked fine for awhile. BUT today it froze again. I have to shut down and reopen, (sometimes once, sometimes multiple times). As I don't live in a city with an Apple Genius Bar I have to wait til I travel to a bigger city again (4 hours drive ). This is getting ridiculous! I'm done with Apple.

I agree, it's ridiculous. Still wasn't able to fix my macbook.

We were going to replace all machines at work with Apple's Macbooks, good thing this happened before we did. Seeing how Apple values their clients, I vouched to abort that process and the directors approved, so we decided to stick with Dell, just replacing the older models.

I also just bought a Dell to replace my macbook, and I'm glad I did so, amazing machine for half the price, and the support is a lot better.

Apple never again.

I'm not running virus scanning software. And so odd that folks here were having the problem prior to 10.13.3, when I was fine and my issues started with the upgrade to 10.13.3. Another issue is my scanner has decided to stop working, and this happened around the same time my other issues started (all this past weekend). I'm not that worried about the scanner as it is old and I don't use it that often. So I guess I'm going to manually back up at the end of every day, go into sleep mode, attempt to wake up, force a reboot and start all over again?

No. My problem has not been resolved. I've twice used Apple Care to try to resolve the issue. The first time we did a complete reinstall of High Sierra. The second time the guy reset two things that have to do with battery. To be honest I can't remember what he said we were doing. All I know is that I have a little more than 90 days left on my Apple Care plan, and I have a MacBook Pro that doesn't do what it's supposed to do. I wish there was an Apple Store here in my hometown, but there's not. The nearest one is an hour and a half away. Bummer.

Wish this was the case for me... Had it freshly installed from a USB key and it teased me for about 30 minutes doing all sorts of memory and cpu intensive tasks, but then it crashed when browsing a very plain website. My only option left is to get it sent off for a $500 repair, ridiculous considering the total cost of the machine will be $1700 after that. Very frustrating for my first venture into the Mac laptop world for my personal machine.
