Heart Rate Data not showing in activity app

I have had to reset both my iPhone and Watch Series 2 recently and for the first few workouts heart rate data showed perfectly in Health and Activity App's. For the past three days ( and workouts) I have now noticed that the heart rate data is not being shown in the activity app under the workouts tab. Instead it merely shows 'Data Unavailable'. The heart rate data is shown in the Health app for the workout that I have completed. I have attached a couple of screen shots to show what is now being displayed on the iPhone in the Activity App. Please can someone enlighten me to get this data back into the Activity app??? I have checked all the settings on the Watch, Health and Privacy apps to no avail and I am not wearing it any differently?!

I am running an Apple Watch Series 2 Nike edition (only using the Apple workouts at the mo) on OS4 and an iPhone 7 on iOS11.

Thanks for any help!

Thought you might say that! Todays workout was indeed a swim but the last two were runs. The previous two runs from that were runs and hear rate data was recorded perfectly. The health app shows all workouts perfectly along with the heart rate data. The activity app does not show the data??? This means that the watch is recording the data correctly, Health App is recording the data correctly from the watch but the activity app is not! Any ideas on this?

Hi, Thanks. I have also tried this bu to no avail. I decided to fully unpair and re-pair the watch using the latest back up. This actually seems to have solved the problem for the time being. I have also noticed that the current stand indicator does not glow in and out as it used to but thats a different story!!

Hi

As the message indicates, your Apple Watch did not record sufficient heart rate readings to create a chart.

For swimming workouts, keep in mind that Apple advises that water may prevent or reduce the accuracy of heart rate sensor performance during swimming workouts.

For other workouts and more generally, Apple also advises that, even under ideal conditions, Apple Watch may not be able to record a reliable heart rate reading every time for everybody.

For the best performance from the heart rate sensor during workouts, ensure that you wear your watch snugly (but not too tightly) on the top of your wrist. Apple suggests that you consider tightening the band before starting a workout and loosening it again afterwards:

Your heart rate. What it means, and where on Apple Watch you’ll find it. - Apple Support

Other issues that can impact sensor performance include skin perfusion and wrist tattoos.

If you are concerned about a possible hardware defect or software issue, then I suggest that you contact Apple Support (mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider for assistance:

The following steps may also help:

On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > Privacy > if they are not already enabled, turn on Heart Rate and Fitness Tracking.

On your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > Workout > turn off Workout Power Saving Mode.

If you then remain concerned about a possible hardware defect or software issue, then I suggest that you contact Apple Support (mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider for assistance:

Hey,

I had the same problem and I thought it is because of new iOS update. I was going to downgrade my OS but then I tried hard reboot and it worked for me!

To do hard reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons simultaneously for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo. You can let go of both buttons after the Apple logo appears.

Hope, it helps!

My app was also working fine until I paired it with the iPhone X. The weird thing is, it worked fine with the iPhone X for two days. Then the heart rate data stopped appearing in the workout app. The heart rate data continues to show up in the Health app (so I know its being recorded), but the workout app shows insufficient data to display a graph for both a walk and a run.

If you find a solution to this problem please let me know.

Hi everyone:

I can’t explain why it works, but the solution for me has been to tighten my watch when I run. The heart rate sensor works and records my heartbeat in the health app when I run and wear it a little loose, but it doesn’t record the information in the workout app. When I tighten it just for my run, it starts recording. The few times I forgot to tighten the watch before my run, it didn’t record properly.

The only thing I can think of is the sensor is less sensitive after a software update? I really don’t know. But it has worked 100% of the time when I tighten the watch. No re-pairing or resetting required.

Hope that helps! Good luck!
