Printing problems with High Sierra

Since updating to High Sierra, printing appears to be broken.

I have an iMac, and an Epson PX730WD. The iMac is wired ethernet connected to the LAN, the printer connects to the same network via wifi. All worked fine under Sierra.

Attempting to print to the printer under HS gives an unspecified Communication Error. Resetting the printing system gives an error when trying to add the printer, either as AirPrint or using the Epson driver. Connecting the printer via USB seems to work correctly.

I can ping the printer in Terminal, and the Epson status webpage works correctly, so the printer is connected to the net OK.

Thoughts??

Thanks

Geoff

Seem to have accidentally found a work around for this. Epson support stated trying to reset the printer queue and install several times until it worked but it never did. Then this worked for me.

  1. Reset the printer queue
  2. Enable the CUPS interface
enter "cupsctl WebInterface=yes" in a terminal window
  3. Access CUPS via a web browser on port 631http://localhost:631/
  4. Select the Administrator tab and Add Printer
  5. Go through the options, selecting the right printer driver etc
  6. Print!

It worked for me. Printer then appears in System Preferences and other communications work like Check Supply level.

Turd of a thing! Worked a few times then filtered out again, so to speak. Back to the drawing board.

FYI each time it fails I get a system crash "QuickLookSatellite quit unexpectedly". Fascinating. Wonder if its permissions error somewhere perhaps and the quicklook process is getting upset when its possibly indexing the print file or something. Mind starts ticking... Now to go hunting again.

Same situation here, iOS printing is fine, macOS 10.13.1 fails on "finding printer" as did the 10.13.

The printer Epson PX730WD is connected to the WiFi router via LAN the Mac and all other devices trough WiFi.

Also the printing from WIN10 is without problems. The second printer a Brother bw laser, connected in the same way is printing from all OS without any problem

Not working.

I removed the printer, reset the whole print system and reinstalled the Epson Stylus Photo PX730WD.

The printer in the print manager is Idle (green mark) pushing printing immediately change to In Use (yellow mark)

and when the file was sent to printer changes to In Use (yellow mark).

The feedback is Printing - Looking for printer and then -Communication Error -

Thank you so much! I installed the Epson software updater (as per your link), ran it, ran it again, ran it a third time until it told me my software was 'up to date'. Tried printing (from Photoshop), printer window showed 'Printer not connected' (as usual, though I had already reconnected it to the WIFi router and scanned successfully via WiFi), paused printing, restarted printing and bingo! Image printed successfully. Printed another. Set off another to print. Went off to declare to the world, problem solved! Returned to find: 'Printer not connected' again. Paused printing, restarted printing, rinse and repeat and yes, eventually, the third image printed as well. So, not fully solved but maybe halfway there. Maybe a bit more than halfway. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again.

This worked for me! After many frustrating hours I finally found this post and it solved the same problem I was having with my Epson Workforce 845 networked over wi-fi. This is the sort of thing that makes a total lie of Macs being easier to administer. And why is this info not more prominently offered by either Epson or Apple? It all makes be grumpy. But thanks so much for figuring it out.

Sheltiedog2 -- I can't thank you enough for your work on this, and for your willingness to distribute it to the rest of us. I'm just savvy enough to attempt to solve this problem on my own, but newbie enough to have to YouTube what a "terminal window" is. Between your solution and accompanying video and those of a few others explaining your terms, I was able to resolve this extremely frustrating issue. Many, many thanks. -K

I have a similar problem with a Canon Selphy photo printer. When I try to print wirelessly, whether through my Wi-Fi or direct (using the printer as an access point), it will print one or 2 pictures and then it will not print until I power off the printer and power it back on. When it stopped printing, the print queue will say it's connected to the printer, but the printer screen never turned to say "busy" which means it is receiving info. I am not sure what happened in High Sierra, but this used to work in Sierra.
