High Sierra macOS freezing and stops

Yes. Less with the latest 10.13.2 release.

I have this issue, and dock on the left, you think it's a reason? Just uninstall flash, keep monitoring now.

When I have similiar issues I can reinstall my OS but most of the time it is related to my browser and I have to reinstall it without losing my programs of course.........

Experiencing the same issue...background audio continues to play by machine is unresponsive to keyboard and mouse. Have to do a hard reboot. Sometimes the mouse cursor is responsive, other times it's also unresponsive.

I started seeing this happen on my 2012 27" iMac shortly after updating to High Sierra. It seems to be related to having any browser window with video in it (even if paused), or maybe any app that uses QuickTime (I've been using the QuickTime player quite abit, also). It's been doing this at least once per day, sometimes more often. It occurs in both the primary user account, and other secondary user accounts. I've disabled just about every Safari extension, and almost all login items. Up until the most recent freeze, everything is frozen. The latest time it happened, however, the mouse pointer was still alive, and I was even able to reconnect the mouse when I cycled power on the mouse. It would move around the screen, but nothing else would respond. (I tried power cycling the keyboard, but couldn't bring up the force kill window).

I've looked through all the console logs each time it has frozen (after rebooting), and I can't find any related crash info, or any clues. It does seem like perhaps its the window server, because there are other log entries after the time of the freeze (before forcing a reboot) which would tend to confirm that at least some processes are still alive and running. The fact that I could move the mouse pointer the last time it happened (and even reconnect the mouse after power cycling it) tends to confirm that most processes are probably still running.

I also disconnected most USB peripherals, and a disk drive that I don't generally use. That hasn't made any difference, so I don't think its related to USB or Firewire. For good measure, I blew all the dust out of the RAM bay today, just to make sure it wasn't a heat issue.

High CPU for any random multiple apps running (e.g. Dropbox sync, Pushbullet launch/sync, homebrew git prune && git gc, iCloud sync, etc) causes kernel panic and crash and OSX High Sierra asks to hit any key to reboot. Happens multiple times.

Has to be cautious to not launched more apps than I typically use and try to only have 2 or 3 simultaneous running. Else, I can get up to 7 or 9 kernel panics daily.

Have sent in to local QCD Technologies (Singapore), for a full disk format, OSX High Sierra reinstall + Time Machine restore, and still this happens!

I have this issue too. Happened 3 or 4 times now, randomly freezes and unresponsive following upgrade to High Sierra on my iMac. Called Apple support a couple of days ago and talked through booting in safe mode and resetting NVRAM. Both seemed to work initially but now freezing is back again. Hard reset is the only escape.

Must be related to the OS and hopefully they'll issue an update to fix soon.......

I have the same problem on my MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) 2,6 GHz Intel Core i7. I was suspecting that it is external monitor or external eth problem but systems hangs even without any such connection. Everything freeze including mouse pointer, the only thing working is green light on caps-lock key.

I tried to boot in safe mode, PRAM reset etc. nothing helped.

Did anyone tried fresh install MacOS and recovery from Time-machine?

This is my next plan for the weekend, but it takes a lot of time...

My freezing issue seems to only affect my Mac when it's not connected to an external display; when I'm just using it on it's own. If I'm at my desk using my mouse and keyboard and it's plugged into my external monitor, I have not had any freezing issues.

I updated to 10.13.1 last night, and there is no question but that significant improvements were made. My MacBook Pro w/Retina display is running faster and is more stable. I've not had any of the graphics glitches, pauses or freezes as yet, after several hours of use. So far, so good.

Are you plugged into an external monitor by chance? My freezing only happens when I'm using my macbook not plugged into anything. No power, external monitor or mouse/keyboard/iphone connected.

And it's at random times too. And it's always exactly 5 seconds, because when it freezes I look up to the seconds in the menu bar at it'll be stuck on say :15, then when it unfreezes it goes to :20.

I'm having the same problem. I7 Macbook Pro 2017, 512GB SSD. SSD shows that it's in perfect health in DriveDx.

I do use Parallels Desktop a lot, and there are lots of graphical glitches switching desktops. It's a known issue per Parallels, but I suspect it contributes to the system freezes. The system will freeze regardless if I'm in the Windows VM or just browsing in safari though or reading email.

The system freeze starts by the system getting slower and the CPU fans ramping up. Shortly after a beachball shows up. It will stop spinning and then all I can do is reboot.

The High Sierra .1 update fixed the ultra-slow touch ID, but did not help the freezing issue.

In the future, I would not advise updating to the macOS until it reaches .4 or better yet, wait until it has reached it's final version usually .5 or .6.

I've contacted Apple per Feedback Assistent (available in the beta programm) and sent link to this forum. I hope Apple's developers will fix it with the next OS.

Unfortunately, the GeForce GT 750M in the Macbook Pro 15 late 2003 does not have new drivers from NVIDIA that we could download and install. This should come from Apple as I´ve found out from the support of NVIDIA today.

Yes, I'm a registered owner of CCC and I use it every day for backups, one bootable. I have a couple of SSD drives I already put the new APFS file system on so I think I will stick with High Sierra for now. It can only get better with everybody working on bugs.

The good news is that one member here put me on to a new 10.13.1 driver for my old NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 video card. That seemed to cure about 90% of the problems. I took the noisy dual fan 6870 Radeon card out for now as it locked up every few minutes.

Nivida is already working new drivers and I already received an update for the Nvida card a few hours ago. Also Apple just put up a security update today (17B1002) for 10.13.1.
