High Sierra macOS freezing and stops

I have an iMac core i7 late 2012 and I get the same problem 3-4 times a day it freezing, I can't find any solution It's terrible because I lose my work. I'm a photographer who work on lightroom and photoshop essentially

Just came across another bug.... screengrabs stopped working - the camera sound fx would sound and a flash of the pic would appear on the screen [this never happened in previous OS] yet it wouldn't appear on the desktop... took a whole bunch more after possible tweaks but still nothing appeared... did a restart and they were all there - should note that the zoom keyboard option stopped working at the same time.

This OS was put out waaay too early IMO.

I almost exclusively use Safari, and rarely use Chrome, as Chrome is such a resource hog. Ironically, I’m not having any issues with Chrome, or Safari, per se. The issue seems to occur whether or not I’m running any web browser. Thankfully, the freezing seems to be more rare, but the freeze/pause, with control returning after about five seconds, continues.

After experiencing so many panics and freezes, my feeling is that it might be hardware related, to some specific models. I don't have external monitors when the freezes/panics happen, there is no extra activity going on etc.

My machine is a mac book pro 15 retina mid 2012 (the one famous for having the video card issue, two motherboards down the road already...

It was affected by the graphics issues as well in the past but then after some updates it went away so I didn't have to replace the motherboard.

This time it just goes crazy and I have to shut down once a day at least.

BTW, my setup doesn't involve external monitors, peripherals or heavy processing, either CPU or GPU. I do have the more sophisticate card that switches between low energy consumption, simple GPU and high energy consumption, more complex GPU (MacBook Pro 15" Retina Mid 2012)

Yes, I think it depends on the graphic card. Probably the metal 2 api does not work properly and causes this problems. Apple is responsible for it that’s why Apple should resolve it too. We don’t need investigate it by ourselves this is a software problem.

I noticed that it happens every time I use Lightroom and photoshop. (iMac end 2012 with n'vidia card 8Go)

I disabled in the software preferences the graphics card but nothing changes.

I also updated for 2018 versions but the problem remains.

The funny thing is that my macbook Mi-2009 on which thanks to a patch of mac Rummor works perfectly on High Sierra no bug while it is not on the list of compatibility Apple

How many of us are having a temporary freeze, where the system stops responding for 5-10 seconds but then recovers, versus a complete system freeze requiring a reboot?

I'm having a temporary freeze, where even the clock stops for about 5 seconds, but then recovers. So far, I haven't had to reset it.

I'm also having the same problem HOWEVER what makes me different and probably means I did something catastrophically wrong was that this issue started happening BEFORE I updated to High Sierra. I did the update to try to see if that would help and it didn't. So I'm a bit worried about if it is something that I did to make it slow rather than just High Sierra itself.

Sometimes the computer totally freezes, other times it freezes but I can move the mouse. Also background music still works (even with Bluetooth). Music stops when it have to load a new song (using Deezer or even Youtube).

I also experience graphic glitches from time to time.

Any solutions? Or some way to report this to Apple?

Update #2 after installing the 10.13.1 Update: I did end up having one freeze today - atypically at the login screen (after a normally-timed screen lock) - requiring a forced reboot. I've also had a few of the pause/freezes, but though they are fewer in frequency, they are now longer in duration - about 10 seconds long as opposed to 5 seconds.

Better, but not out of the weeds yet. Unless someone stumbles upon a way to remedy this otherwise, I'm looking forward to the release of 10.13.2.
