High Sierra macOS freezing and stops

I’m having this same issue on my brand new 2017 27” iMac 5k that came preinstalled with High Sierra. I have very few programs installed, and have experienced this issue from day one. The issue starts with my Magic Mouse and Apple keyboard becoming unresponsive, and then I just have to shut it off and turn it back on. Sometimes the mouse starts working again after 10-15 seconds of moving it around, but often times not. Very frustrating to have a brand new system that’s hit or miss in reliability. Hoping apple can release a fix ASAP.

Same! My system just froze for a good 20 seconds (no mouse control just as a Safari video - Morning Joe - was starting up) and then unfroze. Something I thought I would never see again after I replaced my PC with a MacBook Pro. Deja vu... again!

On a good note, a maddening, recurring problem with the loss of control of my trackpad after waking from sleep seems to have gone away.

I'm running macOS 10.13.3.

I am also experiencing the same issue, only difference is I am on a Mac Pro (Late 2013), 3.7GHz Quad-Core E5 Xeon, 64 GB of DDR3.

I am starting to notice it is most prevalent while xCode 9.2 is open, any chance anyone else is noticing the same?

It's really affecting my work, and absolutely need to solve it. I've reset SMC, and NVRAM numerous times, called apple support and was told it was not a known issue, and to restore with a fresh copy of high sierra and xcode 9.2, which did nothing to fix it.

I too am having the same issue - and recently had Apple tech work on it and reloaded the High Sierra, but to no avail. Mac Pro (Late 2013) - 3.5 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon E5, 128gb 1066 MHz DDR3, AMD FirePro D300 2048 MB, OWC Aura 2TB SSD. I plan on contacting Apple again. This is extremely frustrating.

Apple replaced the original SSD and reinstalled High Sierra as a clean install ... I've reinstalled the OS (clean install) several times since and still the freezes.... BTW - the SSD is practically empty (1.39TB out of 1.9TB).

Noooo! I updated to 10.13.4 this morning and my system just came to a screeching halt for a good 30 seconds. I was dragging a file (from a directory with 300 items) into a folder then suddenly the mouse turned into a spinning ball, then froze. The video playing on VLC froze. Then some seconds later, back to normal like nothing happened. I was really hoping the update to 10.13.4 fixed the problem. Not good.

Upgraded to High Sierra from the previous macOS hoping to fix a kernel panic rebooting issue during connected FaceTime calls (100% repro rate). But no joy, and now the freezing.

v10.13.4, Retina MBP 13” early 2015. Completely original hardware and only a Logitech USB-dongle mouse. 2.7GHz i5, 16GB 1867MHz DDR3 RAM, Intel Iris 6100.

Photos seems to cause the freezing most frequently, but it also happened while I was browsing screensavers last night. Don’t think it’s the GPU as my son can Minecraft on this thing for ages and has never reported any crashes.

Mouse cursor is always responsive during my hangs but otherwise only a complete hard reboot works. Etrecheck reports nothing out of the ordinary.

It came back to me even in 10.13.5. For me its the intermittent spinning wheel issue - lasting 1 - 5 seconds pretty frequently.

Even removing Flash, moving dock etc. or any other black magic isn't helping.

This is disgraceful, because the primary reason I like OS X is the stability and dependability aspects - because they can supposedly integrate the hardware and software in their design.

And here we are...

Thanks for trying to help, but all such solutions have been researched already. I believe this is an OS/system problem, not due to any application. Onyx has also been run to clear and reset caches and such... Its not possible that so many people with their different applications out there is the culprit, given the commonality for everyone is OS X!

I just noticed that 10.13.6 beta 6 is out, so I'll just sit tight and pray that AAPL fixes this in the released version of 10.13.6

Like I said, the very fact we are having to deal with this repeatedly in this (and other) thread at 30 pages and counting, is quite a disgrace.

My WIFI is off and it stuck. Yesterday, I disconnected all the cables (monitor, usb etc.), opened it, inserted the password and it stuck before I started to do anything.

Having the same issue with my 2011 iMac 27 (256ssd 16gb ram 1tb hdd)

Everything just freezes even though the sound is playing...

Same thing here on my MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016) and on my iMac (Retina 5k, 27-inch, late 2014).

Mine just locked up whilst looking at purchasing a new MacBook Pro... Oh, the irony...
