Problems adding a new contact since upgrading to high Sierra?

Now when I go to add a new contact in the "contact" app on my Mac (High Sierra os), while I am typing in the information it will all of a sudden refresh with the contact information that is next in line. Very odd. I use gmail to store my contacts (via the Apple Contacts App). Has anyone else seen this issue? Any resolution? Or a software bug?

Reinstalled macOS from the recovery screen. Same issue with the contacts. Since the issue wasn't there with Sierra and is only there now with High Sierra, I have to think it is something in High Sierra, but I am surprised a ton of folks aren't complaining about it.

Any other ideas? Apple was terrible on the case and I never got a call back. I guess I can try them again.

I have this same issue after upgrading to High Sierra. I tried about 10 times and immediately a contact from my list would immediately show up instead of the one I was trying to add. I had about 10 "No Names" at the bottom of my Contact List because of this. I opened one of the "No Names"> clicked on + > entered the email address FIrst > then went up to Company or where you put in your contact name > done. It works. I don't know why but I have tried it on fake contacts and two new contacts. There seems to be a glitch with Contacts and possibly syncing with gmail which is what I use ??

Contacts can be put in on iPhone, iPad as you would always do. No problem

On macbook air I put in the phone number first and then the name and it works. iMac none of this works although it accepts the transfer from the other devices correctly. Hopefully this could narrow the

down for someone who is way smarter than me to fix this.

My workaround to be able to add a new contact is a bit of a hassle but it works. I go into contacts >Click on + to add new contact. I then have to add any name. It will immediately boot me out and bring up a highlighted address that is already in my address or contact folder. Then I go ALL the way down to the end of all my names and find NO NAME for the fake one I was booted out of. I have to enter the new contact through this means. Click on NO NAME then for some reason I can add the new contact info and click done. It works. My computer guy has duplicated this problem on his iMac and he believes it is an Apple problem. He has reported to them for all that matters. All I know is this works and I can add new contacts this way. You have to create a NO NAME by trying to add a contact via normal means then click that open and add the new information. This happened after I upgraded to High Sierra. Try it and let me know. I am a novice but I figured this workaround for myself which is easier for me than to mess with technical fixes that I don't understand.

Um..re all of the above 8 pages on this issue: has anyone thought of opening Contact Preferences and changing Default Account to "On My Mac". I did after reading first 2 pages of replies. You guessed it - problem solved (for me anyway).

My Default A/c was set to my gmail address. As I don't trust gmail/google to handle my comms I tried the above and absolutely no issues as yet. (I have only just fired up a new Mac 5K 27, and am working through the details of set up from a Yosemite user backup. So far so good.)

Excellent comment, NewMac27!

I find it rather surprising that, after more than 2 months, Apple had not suggested this! Perhaps they do not have anyone dedicated to solving Mac Contacts software issues? This one began with High Sierra's public release …

Congrats on your new machine - enjoy, and Happy New Year! Best, Bob.

Update: on my other machine (Mac Mini, also running 10.13.2) I *do* see that "Default Account" preferences item. The Apple Help says "If you use multiple accounts in Contacts, choose the one where you want to add new contacts by default." The Mac Mini has four different accounts, although only one is "active." I think the Macbook Air might have only one account, which is why that item does not appear.

I am having the exact same problem. I struggled with it and it took a lot of searches to find this thread. Apple, get your act together. Computers are running slower than ever and you are making basic things a pain. This isn't good. I already was thinking to move back to windows due to speed & integrations. Now even more.

This is a ridiculous response. This person JUST INSTALLED THE UPGRADE provided by Apple. And now they need to reinstall the operating system that Apple just distributed? No, especially since this is obviously not a one-off unique configuration problem, it's a problem that hundreds of people are having. I have this problem on two different computers, both recently updated to "High" Sierra. This needs systemic fix by Apple and a correction sent out to all users.

There was an earlier response with a workaround: create a new contact (without filling in anything), then save it. Then go to the bottom of your list of all contacts, you will see a "no name" contact. Edit that and save it, and you'll have your new contact. It's ridiculous that this isn't fixed yet. It's an obvious and major bug, and it's been unresolved for 2 months. Just not up to Apple standards.
