iOS11 notifications disappearing from lock screen

Hello? Anyone reding my posts? :)

I’ve reported this problem to Apple via their bug reporting system. If the problem is already in the system one usually gets a reply that the report is a duplicate – that didn’t happen in this case. This makes me think the problem probably isn’t as widespread as one might think being in the middle of experiencing it.

I don’t have the problem myself but I’m trying to help – but I need one of you who can reproduce the problem to produce a log file that I can pass on to Apple – instructions here:

I very much appreciate your attempts to help with this issue. I have reproduced the problem deliberately several times and tried to create the information you need but it justness isn’t working. I have so many lost text messages and received no real help from Apple support and I realize they just don’t care. But again I thank you for your efforts and hope that somebody can create this bug report successfully. If I have some time later today I will give it another try. Thanks again.

I guess the just released iOS 11.4 update is something to try first before going any further. It includes support for iMessages in iCloud, so I take it there should be some changes how messaging is handled.

Anyway, I was going to ask you what it is that isn't working when you try to crate that ”sysdiagnose” file? Maybe we can try to work something out. If the problem still remains after an update to iOS 11.4, that is.

"Messages in iCloud, which again showed up during the 11.3 beta phase, is also included in 11.4. Now, messages will be completely synced across all devices tied to an iCloud account. Previously, when a new device was set up, no history would be included (unless restoring from a backup) and deleted messages were only deleted on a single device.

Now, any action will apply to all iPhones, iPads, or Macs. It is beneficial for legacy conversations and keeping everything in check.

Have you had any luck yet with Apple to resolve the issue? I thought it had been rectified and the few tests I conducted seemed to verify that however I was mistaken. I started boldly turning my phone off at night and realized fairly quickly that wasn’t not the case. I’d be very curious to know how many iPhone users have this problem. Not many is my guess otherwise Apple would have been more inclined to fix it. I really don’t think they care.

I wonder if some folks have not put 2 & 2 together. A coworker was not getting messages about clients & they were being sent. When I told her what was happening w/ my phone she had an 'Aaha' moment. I also wonder if some folks are just not posting here & going to Apple stores like I originally did. This has been happening since last November. I now have Samsung..could not be happier....

No luck – they're waiting for me to do the next step, i.e. attach that ”sysdiagnose” file from a device that i experiencing the problem. But like I said I don't have this problem myself so… They have been reminding me about that file though, so seems to me there's an interest for sure.

It’s very thoughtful of you to want to help so I will attempt to complete the file you need. I just retrieved the diagnostic file and I see that I need my host computer which is unfortunately in for repairs so as soon as I get it back I’ll try to send the report. Wish I could do it sooner. I’m so tempted to switch to Samsung though. Thanks again for your efforts.

I also got in touch with a friend who's experiencing this problem and he said he will try to generate a sysdiagnose file too. I guess it's good to get one from more than one device, so great if you can do it too when your computer is back from repair.

I understand the frustration, but I don't really see the wish to switch to Samsung when there are so many other Android devices out there. I'm thinking about the ones from Motorola that seem to be of good value, but I still think I would go for a Google Pixel phone, getting ”pure” Android not requiring the manufacturer (for example Samsung) to adjust their version of Android to the current release from Google, which usually takes some time, and sometimes doesn't happen at all when the device is getting a bit old.

But I hope we can get to the bottom of this iMessage problem. I think it's not very common. I have just heard this one friend talking about it and I know a lot of people with iPhones – I guess we all do. 🙂

My mother started getting this issue and I could not understand what exactly she was saying was wrong. Then suddenly without apparent reason, my phone started getting the issue. I first noticed it when bringing the phone up for face authentication. Before I could discern the message sender or content, it would be removed from the screen. All other notifications would persist. Regardless, I will often see a notification on my iPad that I was unaware of. Sure enough, it is on my iPhone as well just hidden. This is a MAJOR issue since I and many others rely on these messages as a chief form of communication. As we are in meetings far too often for phone calls and we get way too many emails to act on them as the fastest means of communication. I often tell people in my business, "a text message is the fastest way of contacting me." Please Apple, don't make me a liar because of a stupid bug that is a bloody year old already.

Well all I can say is that you’re fortunate that’s the messages show in your iPad after which you can find them hidden on your iPhone. May I ask where they are hidden. When I activate my iPhone after having it off the red notification dot is there telling me how many messages I’ve received but when I tap on messages all of my contacts come up as always as there is not one single new message. I know a lot of people who depend on their iPhones for business purposes, many of whom work for large corporations where thousands of employees all use company iPhones. If this happened to all of their phones it would result in a huge loss of revenue. Maybe it would take a problem with Apple employees before it’s even acknowledged and possibly even fixed.

I have this problem too! I got an iphone 6 at the beginning of June.....had this issue and figured it was just a bad phone...got this SECOND iphone 6 and the same problem all over again! I've been in contact with Apple and have tried everything they've told me to do and nothing has fixed it. It has to be something that only they can fix on their end. I really don't want to go through the process all over again of getting a new phone just to keep having this issue repeated. The apple guy I spoke with last night said it's been reported 18 times. I don't know if that's enough to get the higher-up's attention about it. Anyone get any answers yet?!

ALSO: My issue seems to be mostly when my phone has been turned off. Whatever messages are sent to me while it's off show up on the lock screen and then are gone the minute I unlock my phone. It doesn't seem to happen unless my phone has been off. I need to turn my phone off sometimes though and it's annoying that I can't rely on it to give me my messages when I turn it back on. If you're still looking for answers from Apple, THE BEST THING TO DO is to give them a call and report it. The more reports it gets the better chance it will get fixed. I asked if the employees saw these discussions and they said they don't so actually calling them is going to be the only way to get their attention. 😟
