Since upgrading to High Sierra, the up and down buttons of my Apple Remote control do not work. Left to right and all other functions work ok. This is the same if I use Kodi or Plex.
Very frustrating, anyone else have this issue and know of a fix?

SOLUTION!!!
Turn off and then on IR reception
to unlock it, then enter an administrator name and password.Sorry about that. Posting via iPad is obviously not a good idea. Unfortunately I cannot delete the duplicate answers.
I´ve also have the same problem, i tryed to disconect my apple remote and can´t connect it again!. Pleace APPLE fix this !. I´m running high sierra 10.13 on my mac mini.
This has done the trick at my macbook. It will cause an error but it will fix disabeling the remote.
Opent Terminal and paste:
sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIRController.kextSame problem here.

I have the exact same problem on both of my Mac Minis, its quite annoying.

The aluminium IR remote Up/Down buttons do not work with any macOS Apps,
So this is definitely an Apple High Sierra issue.
