Why does bluetooth keep turning on with iOS 11

Why does bluetooth keep turning itself on now I've upgraded to iOS 11, it was fine with iOS 10 but it is now constantly turning itself on and I keep having to go back and switch it off.

This is extremely frustrating.

This is super annoying. It is an on/off button. Not a “disconnect” button. How stupid is that? If you’re going to invent a new button, then invent a new icon that clearly differentiates from what any numbskull (except Apple Engineers) knows is a Bluetooth on/off button. Apple, you‘ve strayed into to the deep end of the fairyland pool this time.

Please give the writer a break. He or she came here for help. Saying “what's the big deal” with a condescending comment neither helps nor impresses. If someone's question seems silly or is annoying to you because you think they should have “gotten it” already, move on to another topic and let someone else respond...even if the information was already available, whether at installation or earlier in the same discussion.

It seems that someone could say something similar to you....you knew you had turn turn WiFi back on after you turned it off, that's straightforward, but you forgot a few times and it cost $. It was annoying, but then you learned to remember. What's the big deal?

Please be nice to people who seek help. You never know who they might be or why they are asking.

Yeah i fully understand what your saying and agree how things work in the control centre but i’ve found even though i’ve switched bluetooth off through Settings it still switches itself back on by itself, say when i’ve closed down my Ipad for the night and when i restart it i find bluetooth has enabled itself, i’d never had this problem before IOS 11 so like others was interested if there was a reason/fix

Don't listen to Philly_Phan (your phone is not 'broken' 'eye roll')

This issue is all over the web. Even turned off in settings your Bluetooth will turn back on automatically when you charge your phone fully... Just another glaring error for what will soon be our first trillion dollar company. I actually believe it's sold as a feature for ios 11.

If anyone wearing big boy apply pants reads this and feels like mentioning that it's super annoying then that would be awesome. 'kisses'

Are you switching it off in the Control Center or in Settings? If you are doing it in the Control Center all it is doing is disconnecting any current connections but it remains on. This keeps things like Apple Watch and Apple Pencil from disconnecting. To turn it completely off, you'll want to do that in the Settings.

Use Bluetooth and Wi-Fi in Control Center with iOS 11 - Apple Support

Y'know, the question/comments posted were clearly documented above. ****

You could have noticed that Wi/Fi is not the issue they have. No one is turning their Wi/Fi off. This is a bluetooth issue. I'll repeat it so you get it this time. BLUETOOTH. NOT WI/FI. *****

Just because you never turn off your wi/fi doesn't mean others don't. So relax.

By my count, not including headers, its about 30 lines of documentation.

why are your turning off Wi-Fi at all? In the 10+ years I've been using iPhones I have NEVER turned off Wi-Fi, except to disconnect from the current network. So this change has been extremely useful to me, because in the past, to disconnect from a network I had to turn Wi-Fi off, then remember to turn it on later. A few times I didn't remember, and ran up substantial charges for cellular data use. That won't happen any longer. Or I could "forget" the network. Then I would have to re-enter the password when I wanted to reconnect to it. And that button was one of 4 ways to disable Wi-Fi. There are still 3 ways left. The button on the control center was totally, 100% redundant.

The writer posted a belligerent statement. "This is super annoying" ... "How stupid is that" ... "numbskull" "fairyland pool". If the writer had simply said "The Wi-Fi button on the Control Center doesn't seem to shut off Wi-Fi. What can I do about it?" I would have been quite sympathetic. However, the tone of the post I responded to does not deserve sympathy. Especially as the solution has already been posted to the thread that the writer apparently didn't bother to read or understand.

This is extremely frustrating.

The answer is because Apple made a smart move in iOS11, where Wifi and Bluetooth are only toggled off from the network or device they were connected to, but not turned off completely. It's never really necessary to turn off either radio, EVER. The radios themselves use minimal at most battery power (we're talking Milliwatts which is insignificant). Wifi and Bluetooth improve the function of your phone, especially location services.

Instead of toggling them fully in Control Center, if you want to turn them off completely (again, there's really no reason to ever do so), go to Settings > Wifi and turn it off there. Or simply say, "hey Siri, turn Wifi off."

It's just a change in how things are managed. It's not a change that took anyone's ability to turn it off if they want to.
