Apple Watch Series 3 keeps restarting

I have an Apple Watch Series 3 with cellular that keeps restarting - I have tried WiFi off on the phone, tried cellular off on watch. Multiple different combinations. The only thing that seems to work is airplane mode which defeats the purpose of the watch. Any suggestions?

Hi

Whilst I can't say why that is happening, the following steps may help to prevent the issue from recurring:

If you have not yet done so, update your iPhone to the latest software:

Restart both your iPhone and your Apple Watch, turning both off together, then restarting your iPhone first:

Unpair and re-pair your Apple Watch:

If the issue persists, then I suggest that you contact Apple Support (remote diagnostics and/or mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider with a view to having your watch checked and, if recommended, serviced:

I have this same problem. In fact, both myself and co-worker are having same issue. I have the Nike+ GPS watch, co-worker has GPS+Cellular version.

Notice the restarting only while at work (in a hospital). While at the hospital, restarts randomly and throughout the day. At least 1x/hour. T

ried all prev mentioned solutions (unpair, repair, reset to new, uninstall all apps). Also had same bug on v4 and the update 4.1. I'm using iPhone SE, coworker is on iPhone X.

Since co-worker having same issue, we think its a software bug. Also, since we both notice it only at work, we think it's likely related to the enterprise WiFi here with restricted logins. I have no connectivity issues with other devices (laptops, phones). Furthermore, coworker with Series 1 does *not* experience the random reboots.

Went through diagnostics with Apple Chat tech support yesterday, they said no hardware issue on my end. So their current solution was airplane mode and then re-run diags with Apple support later.

For those who are working in hospitals, including within ICUs:

From the opposite perspective (ie potential effects that Apple Watch may have on other devices), note the following from the Important safety information section of the Apple Watch User Guide:

"Medical device interference Apple Watch contains components and radios that emit electromagnetic fields. Apple Watch, some of the bands, the Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Cable, the Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Case, and the Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Dock contain magnets. These electromagnetic fields and magnets may interfere with pacemakers, defibrillators, or other medical devices. Maintain a safe distance of separation between your medical device and Apple Watch, its bands, the Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Cable, the Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Case, and the Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Dock. Consult your physician and medical device manufacturer for information specific to your medical device. Stop using Apple Watch, its bands, the Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Cable, the Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Case, and the Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Dock if you suspect they are interfering with your pacemaker, defibrillator, or any other medical device. Hi

Aside from issues with the operation of your Apple Watch, you may wish to consider the opposite perspective - ie whether your Apple Watch might be having a negative impact on the operation of, for example, medical equipment.

You may wish to consider turning off or not wearing your Apple Watch when you are inside, for example, an ICU or hospital.

Apple's guidelines include the following "Important safety information":

Radio frequency interference

Observe signs and notices that prohibit or restrict the use of electronic devices (for example, in healthcare facilities or blasting areas). Although Apple Watch, the Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Cable, the Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Case, and the Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Dock are designed, tested, and manufactured to comply with regulations governing radio frequency emissions, such emissions from Apple Watch, the Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Cable, the Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Case, and the Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Dock can negatively affect the operation of other electronic equipment, causing them to malfunction. Unplug the Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Cable, the Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Case, and the Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Dock, and turn off Apple Watch or use Airplane Mode when use is prohibited, such as while traveling in aircraft, or when asked to do so by authorities.

Folks,

Latest updated - 4th March 2018:

Apple Watch Series 3 + Cellular (Cellular not activated in my country).

How I solved it:

  • Disable all 3rd party apps notification.Leave apple original apps with thier notifications settings ON. But all other non Apple applications - disable their notification one by one. You do not need to completely turn off the entire notifications in the watch.
  • Hard reboot the watch - Power button + crown until apple logo shows up then leave the buttons.
  • I tested this for 24 Hours - no reboots.
  • As I heavily use twitter and I must get twitter updates to my Watch - I enabled ONLY the twitter notifications.
  • So far over 48 Hours no reboot. All other apps I use have their notification OFF, as I really need only twitter.

I hope someone at apple is reading this - there is clearly some kind of bugs with notifications with the Apple Series 3 watches and notifications with certain apps.

Exact same problem and it occurs in just one hospital. Series 3 watch. It does not happen with my series 0 watch. No problems with other hospitals and locations. Perhaps it is related to cardiac telemetry monitors. Perhaps it is related to the wifi at that location which repeatedly requires agreeing to the terms.

I've got the same issue. Cleveland Clinic Cardiac-ICU with a Series 3 watch + cellular. When I'm away from the hospital, no issues. I'm still seeing reboots on Airplane mode but not as bad. In fact, It rebooted while I'm replying. Partner has a new series 3 + Cellular watch as well and its doing the same thing. I've even tried turning off his phone without luck. Updated to the 4.2 software did not resolve the issue. This area has the Heart Monitors and enterprise Wi-Fi that constantly requires constant agree to terms and conditions.

I as well am having the same issue along with fellow coworkers. I work in Tulsa on the 7th floor. I have noticed it when I get pulled to other floors. I do not notice it outside of work, even living out in the middle of nowhere with limited cell phone service. I have done all of the updates on my watch and phone. I have rebooted them. Verizon even replaced my watch thinking it was an issue with the watch itself. I have been to the Apple store and online, with no luck.

It is very frustrating not having a working watch as a nurse as our job is very time oriented.

My wife has been experiencing the same thing at the hospital when working in the ICU. Reboots an average of once an hour. Unfortunate since we got it specifically so she didn't have to pull out her phone at work.

We tried the suggested steps to no avail. We took it in last week and Apple gave her a new watch. Same issues as before.

I called Apple today and was told that if the issue persisted we could get a refund, even though we're past the normal return window. Unless Apple acknowledges the issue soon, we may need to return it and wait until it's fixed to repurchase.
