iOS 11: Voice text feature gone?
The little microphone icon has disappeared from my Messages app, rendering me unable to send voice texts when cooking or working in the garage. Is there a way to restore that feature?
iPhone 6, iOS 11.0.2

The tips here have nothing to do with the question?? Has anyone figured it out? All people have shown is how to re-enable dictation. I know how to do that, which uses the mic and dictates and converts your words into text. I am looking for what happened to the voice messages where you can record a voice message and send it like a tape recording… Anyone? Many thanks.

“Go into Settings / General and enable Restrictions. (You will be promoted to set a PIN.) Disallow Siri and Dictation. Exit Restrictions back to General settings. Re-enter Restrictions after entering your PIN. Now allow Siri and Dictation. Exit Settings.”
Yes the voice recorder is there and the control center. But that has always been there and that is not what I am talking about. In order to do that you have to swipe and then open that app then hit record and save it and or name it. Then select it and then share it and then decide you want to share via text message and then find your sender. I am talking about
I use voice to text to send SMS to a vast multitude of people that do not have iPhones. This feature shouldn’t go away just because you’re texting someone without an iPhone.
If you’ve lost this feature permernantly and have recently enabled any app restrictions
you can follow the flow in my reply above. See the first reply if you have not recently changed any app restrictions.
This is helpful but it won’t let me respond to say so. I think Apple has hijacked the microphone in messages to spy on Americans and replaced the icon with “send with effect” to distract us from noticing.
My issue is that on my iPhone (SE), the speech to text button works great just as it always did…the FIRST TIME. But now it puts me into this gray keyboard screen with only a microphone and a keyboard icon. I realize the reason the lead designer (and his internal stakeholders pressuring for the change without actually knowing if it reduces fatalities...) did this is for safety when people are using this feature on the road behind the wheel… But I cannot figure out how to have multiple message conversations without playing wrestlemania with my microphone button... is it a race condition between the access to the server for the speech to text conversion and the communication with the Bluetooth headset? either the feature is poorly designed and I cannot intuitively figure it out… Or it is buggy in a real life test case that is yet to be identified... it only seems to happen when I have a Bluetooth headset
connected… SUCH AS MY CAR.... do I need an instruction manual just to use this feature now? Please fix this feature because I am more likely to get into an accident now than I was before .
Thank you so much for continuing to send me information that might have
helped with this issue.
Unfortunately I ended up having to purchase a new phone.
I won’t be needing anymore help on this particular subject. But I am
willing to help others whenever I’m available.
Thank you for your time,
Bryan Spicer

settings>general>keyboards>enable dictation is at the bottom.
The “enable dictation” setting no longer exists in my menus. Is it now located in another place. Using ios11.1
Perfect, thanks!
I am having the same problem.
Swipe down on your screen and type voice memos the app should be there
OK. I am an idiot. I forgot that it only works for people with iPhones and iMessage and does not show up with anyone else. Oops Thanks everyone!
I do appreciate the replies. However we are talking about two different things.
THIS FIXED EVERYTHING THANK YOU
