Apple TV 4K Netflix No Video

Apple TV 4k, Netflix: Audio only, no Video. restored ATV to factory, reinstalled NF app, cable is compliant, AVR settings and TV settings ok as no issue in other apps. Worked fine until today. OS 11.1. everything has been reset, reinstalled, rebooted, and reconnected. Any ideas? NF works fine through the app on the TV as well as the app on the cable box.

I had the exact same problem with the Apple TV 4k (OS 11.1, most recent update)

TV: Hisense 55H9B2 4k curved tv

Cable: Apple-recommended Belkin Ultra HDMI cable

(plus about 6 other 18Gbps cables I bought from Monoprice for much less)

All YouTube 4k content played fine, and I could play 4k movies from iTunes with no problems. Netflix would allow me to browse the content, but when I played 4k videos I would hear sound and could see the UI elements but the video stream was a green screen. When I played regular 1080P content the screen was black, but I could hear sound and see UI.

The Apple TV 4k automatically chose 4k SDR, and would not switch to any other output resolutions. I called Netflix and Apple trying to troubleshoot, but neither could find a solution except to point out that it seems like an HDCP 2.2 issue and to try upgrading my cable. I tried 7 difference cables, including the recommended one from Belkin.

I finally found a post on Amazon for my TV which mentioned that my TV firmware needed an update. The TV's online firmware update feature returned nothing, but I knew mine was the oldest shipped for this TV. Thankfully, someone posted the most recent firmware file on Amazon. I updated via flash drive, and suddenly the Apple TV 4k asked to upgrade the display output to 4k 60Hz HDR. After I changed the output, Netflix started displaying all videos properly.

Check for a firmware update for your television.

For reference for anyone with the Hisense 55H9B2 TV, I upgraded from F1211 to H0117 in order to enable 4k 60Hz HDR (https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R24J42DVDCE5FM/ref=cm_cr_getr_d_rvw_t tl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B00ZGIJDOU).

Just got off the phone with the Apple Advisor - As everything still works with Apple TV 4K on my non 4K TV he thinks that there could be problem with my 4K TV (Sony Bravia). He said that even if the problem only occurs with Netflix and Amazon Prime Video - and not with movies from the iTunes Store - it could be a TV problem as not all apps (including the iTunes Store) stream movies the same way. As there was a Sony firmware update in November, this could well be the case.

Next steps - I am reverting to my previous setup - i.e. Apple TV 4K on my Sony TV 4K. Video format set at 4K. If I still get those problems with Netflix and Amazone Prime, I will try with te Apple TV 4K video format set at 1060p - as that video format works fine with my non 4K TV.

He will call me back in two days to see how things are...

As I mentioned, I am back to my Apple TV 4K with my Sony 4K TV - and the problem is still there. Interesting tidbit - Before I rebooted the Apple TV 4K to reset it I tried to change the video format from 4K HDR to 1060 HDR and the Apple TV would not let me telling that my system was not compatitle. However, once I restarted the Apple TV 4K I was able to set it to 1060 HDR - so whatever that bug is, it is messing around with the Apple TV video format recognition.

So my Apple TV 4K is currently set at 1060 HDR - I am trying to find out if this problem is related to 4K resolution or not...

For me it is the same.

I have also a Sony 4K TV with latest Android TV version and Apple TV 4K (TV OS 11.2).

Before I reboot the Apple TV I am not abel to change resulution from 4K hdr to 1080p sdr (error: my system is not compatible). I restarted Sony TV (pressing the green power button on remote for more then 5 seconds) but without any changes in behavior of Apple TV.

Only restart of Apple TV made it.

I have the non-4K Apple TV and all is not good. Netflix sort of works but stutters - I gave up on that and just use the Samsung's built-in app. But iTunes content is hit or miss. Some content plays, some content will not play at all.

I never had this issue with my Sony TV. I replaced the TV and the problem started. I know it's just one data point, but if the same source and cable work with another TV, this seems like Samsung's problem to fix.

Now my promised update:

Since saturday I am trying another Apple TV4k (from a friend of mine) with following software versions:

Apple TV4k: 11.2.1

Netflix: 1.15.1 (from 11 Dec. 2017)

All other setup was not changed. Same HDMI cable, same TV software (Sony Bravia 4k, Android TV 7.0, latest software - Europe Version from November 2017). The only thing I did was disabling WiFi from TV because I had problems by playing music via AirPlay.

Results: All problems are solved. Netflix shows video directly (no rebooting necessary). Switching framerate and contrast between different files works very smooth.

For me it seems that there could be a problem with the hardware (Apple TV4k) Tomorrow I will call Apple hotline to ask for changing my Apple TV into a new one...

One more thing: Netflix also shows „Dolby Vision“ for some shows again. But — for example Stranger Things 2 — Netflix shows on my iPad „Dolby Vision“, on Apple TV only „Ultra HD 4K“ without Dolby Vision. I do not know why...

Had it working a couple of days by never turning off apple tv.. now it suddenly is worse than ever even though Apple tv 4k never goes to sleep. Tried every setting. Basically i have to restart atv to watch netflix each time i turn off the tv

This is just awful. Seems like an easy fix, obviously a hdcp handshake is needed again or something - how can apple not fix this?

Running latest beta atv os on a Sony 4k tv. Anyone got more info from apple??

I'm over it. So tired of having to deal with this. Restart needed every time I want to watch Hulu, Netflix etc. Now even getting an issue where things will play without sound but have the picture besides the picture and no sound issue. Other apps as well: AE, Nick JR, Disney.

Great new Sony TV and Apple 4K top of line piece from Apple. Way too much work.
