High Sierra random display sleep

I recently upgraded my Macbook Pro w/ Touchbar to High Sierra, and I'm running the most recent supplemental update. Ever since, the display randomly goes to sleep, but I've not changed any Energy Saver or Screen Saver settings. Prior to the upgrade, and currently, I had a Hot Corner setup to instantly put the display to sleep. In addition, I have the Security setting selected to require a password immediately after sleep or screensaver. Also, the screen saver is set to come on after 30 minutes, and the display is set to turn off after 10 minutes.

I also have the MBP connected to an external HP display, via a USB-C to VGA adapter. In addition, I've started having windows resized after waking from sleep. None of these symptoms occurred prior to the upgrade to 10.13.

I have this same issue... in fact, a lot of random issues after updating to High Sierra ( screen blanking out, trouble waking up from sleep, constant connection loss with printers and/or people on my network, losing connection with magic mice, etc.. ). One fix at a time I guess. As per others in this thread.. screen will go black/sometimes screen saver will come on WHILE I'm using the keyboard or sometimes 5-15 seconds after I am done. Sometimes it will come back on by itself, and sometimes I have to press the keyboard/mouse to make it wake up. I may even have to do a hard reboot on occasion. It all seems to be random when it happens, and the issue may not surface every day.

I have an older Mac Pro (non-laptop of course), so obviously my errors have nothing to do with TouchID or a lid sensor like others have stated.

I've suddenly begun having this symptom too since upgrading. Random external display blacking, seems like sleep but often restores itself without any keyboard/mouse input.

That indicates that there are some 3rd party software that is causing the problem.

Download and run Etrecheck. Copy and paste the results into your reply. Etrecheck is a diagnostic tool that was developed by one of the most respected users here in the ASC and recommended by Apple Support to provide a snapshot of the system and help identify the more obvious culprits that can adversely affect a Mac's performance.

First uninstall the Symantec software according to the developer's instructions. It's totally not needed, know too be poorly written for Mac and interferes with system and application performance.

The same goes for any Norton software installed.

Once you're removed the Symantec and Norton software rerun Etrecheck to make sure all of their files have been removed. Then check to see if there is any change in behavior.

I have the same problem with my MacBook Pro w/Touch Bar, connected to the LG 5K monitor. I only noticed the problem since the last update (macOS 10.13 (17A405)). The computer will go to sleep after 2 or 3 minutes, even though I am actively using it. Screen saver is turned off and delay for turning off the display is 15 mins. Safe reboot did not help.

Same issue with my MacBook Pro 2016 15" with Touch Bar. Did not occur previously until update to High Sierra (10.13 (17A405)).

Sometimes it goes to sleep a few seconds after the last keystroke or trackpad action, which makes it impossible to read a longer text without constantly moving the cursor.

Couldn't find anything in the system logs, reset SMC and NVRAM multiple times.

I have two USB-C display adapters connected, one of them required the installation of a Ethernet driver (AX88179 chipset), but sleeps still happen after disconnecting them.

Has anybody taken this issue up directly with Apple via support or a genius bar appointment? This is a critical issue and is making my laptop almost unusable. It happens both on its own and when I have it plugged into an external monitor. I thought perhaps it was the external monitor but that isn't the case. This also never happened prior to the High Sierra update.

If anybody has any further information or evidence that this is actually being looked at by Apple, I would appreciate it.

Thank You.

When upgraded to High Sierra after a short while the touch bar on my Macbook Pro (2016) started to flicker when the display was in sleep mode or screensaver was active. This got worse after a few weeks the touchbar started to flicker more, even when the display was active and I was using the computer. So I decided to hand in my Mac on service and got the "top case" replaced on warranty. (bottom chassi, keyboard, touchbar and battery)

After I got a new touchbar I have not run in to this issue anymore and I have been using my Mac daily now for 2 weeks.
