I got the iphone 8 plus about three weeks ago and since the day I got it I noticed it would constantly disconnect from wi-fi as soon as I locked my phone. After spending 3 hours on the phone with an apple rep. Who had me reset my phone, my router, and connect to itunes for software I still had the same problem. Today while trying to connect to wi-fi I accidentally clicked the i on the right side and realized there’s an auto join button which was off. I clicked it on and my problem was fixed!!! I have not disconnected from wi-fi. I even left my house and it joined automatically when I got back.

Thank you for trying the suggested steps and following up. We recommend erasing your iPhone and setting it up as new. This will determine if there is a possible issue with the backup content. . It's a good idea to make sure you have a recent backup before trying this step. Follow the steps in the links below:
How to back up your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch
How to erase your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

So I have been having this problem, and found a solution that worked. I tried several different things on various threads. Only thing worked though. In WiFi, click the small i next to the network you. Auto-join was switched off. Toggle it to on. Done.
I don't know if it defaulted to off with an iOS upgrade, but this solved the entire problem for me. Hope it does for you.
Hello all.
For me this problem was specific to wifi calling not staying connected to wifi networks. If you having wifi calling issues this might help... I think we all that have had and are having this problem are pretty frustrated and want to blame apple. But based on my googling I have a feeling this isn't iPhone related per se. Hard to individually diagnosis everyone's situation here but I tried every suggestion in this thread which worked only randomly if at all... And then temporarily.
The permanent fix FOR ME was actually held with my router. No reason to go Into great detail because if this is your problem, the Google will help you finish the fix specific to your setup... But here is what I had to do.
Disclaimer: this works perfectly for me on ATT iOS devices. Not sure if the ports are the same for Verizon, sprint and T-Mobile... But I suspect they are.
1. On the router You need to setup specific DHCP IP reservations for each ios device you want wifi calling on. Restart each ios device (or toggle wifi off for 10-15 seconds) after you save changes.
2. On the router You need to setup port forwarding to each device UDP 4500 and UDP 500. Increment it by 1 for each device.
Completed setup will look like this:
iPhone 1:
DHCP IP reservations "192.168.1.11"
Port forwarding: UDP 4500, UDP 500.
iPhone 2:
DHCP IP reservations "192.168.1.12"
Port forwarding: UDP 4501, UDP 501.
iPhone 3:
DHCP IP reservations "192.168.1.13"
Port forwarding: UDP 4502, UDP 502.
Etc.
Apparently this is still a work around because most of this should just work on residential wifi networks however that is specific to whatever you use for your local wifi networks. Additionally for anyone that has never setup a DHCP IP reservations, your local IP will vary by default but you can setup to whatever you prefer, personally I'm not familiar with every router but if you are not comfortable doing this on your own, just google "configuring DHCP IP reservations for XXXXXXXX". (XXXXXXXX being your style router of course.)
Hope this helps some of you. If your phones wifi calling already works... Then that's the way it's supposed to be and I wouldn't make any changes haha.
Edit: this post assumes your iPhone is powered on, connected to wifi, and already has wifi calling turned on.
Same here...the Senior Advisor said the same here in Sweden.
After some testing, I've figured out that the issue with dropping Wi-Fi is only happening with the 5 GHz band.
I'm running an ASUS RT-AC3200 router that offers three bands; two with 5 GHz and one with 2.4 GHz. If I switch to 2.4 GHz, the connection is stable. Note that the bandwidth should be set on 20/40 Hz as well.
Is it the same for you guys? Please do a test.
Despite this, this is a clear issue with the iPhone X. I have two iPad Pro's, one iPhone 7 Plus and all has stable connection on the same network of the 5 GHz, only iPhone X. My wife has complained as she is running a iPhone 8, but there I've not done any tests.
This is the Temporary Fix for now !
Settings-> General -> Next to your connected WiFi there is an “ i “ -> Tap on that -> You may get 2 options-> Auto-Login and Auto-Join
Disable Auto-Login !
Now your WiFi Should Stay in Sleep mode when locked and immediately Wake when notifications come or explicitly waking !
I am in talks with Apple Support Team about the issue will update you’ll !
I had a similar issue. When I setup my new iPhone, other devices in my home received a message asking if they wanted to allow my new phone to access the WiFi network. They selected allow and I was automatically on the WiFi network. But after locking my phone and unlocking a few secons later it would not automatically connect to the network. I went into WiFi settings and selected forget WiFi network. All that I had already connected to. I had two in my home. Then I let it search for available networks. Selected the network and manually typed in the ssid(password). No problems since
Woo Hoo!!
I finally was able to resolve this issue.
I communicated with Apple support, they have collected the diagnostics data from my iPhone, but they couldnt figure the issue.
they asked me to head to apple genius bar, they couldnt figure the issue.
The decision was to replace my iphone!!
After replacing the iPhone I noticed to have the same issue!!
****!!
have looked into many articles over the net, tried all posted resolutions, nothing did work!!
Until I started playing in the settings and tried different method from my head, I finally was able to find a resolution!
SIMPLY, GO TO THE NETWORK SETTINGS CLICK/TAP/TOUCH ON THE CONNECTED NETWORK
TURN OFF => AUTO-LOGIN
Hope that will work for you!!
Thanks Brian, but for me I'm able to connect. I'm curious why some users have the auto-login and some not.
As for Hisham's post, I'm running 3 bands; one 2.4 Ghz and two 5 Ghz. What I have noticed is that the iPhone 8 and iPhone X are not stable on the 5 Ghz band. In my case, all iDevices are connected to a dedicated SSID which is a 5 Ghz band. The unstableness hasn't been any issues with iPhone 5, 5s, 6 and 7 Plus...just recently with 8 and X.
Hi
Turn off your router for 20 /30 seconds when it's back on go to settings on iPhone down to reset Reset network settings After reset enter your router wireless key.
Cheers

Since October and IOS ~10.3.3 I have seen my WiFi connections dropout, causing havoc with my WiFi Calling. I'm on IOS 11 now - which still exhibits the issue.
My symptoms were after approximately 1 minute of phone-sleep, when I reactivated it - the topbar WiFi symbol would dropout in preference of 3G/4G - then re-establish a second or two later. During sleep no incoming calls could establish (which previously they did).
I have two home WiFi networks - one of which the phone exhibited the issue - one which it did not.
Tried changing the settings of the affected AP; Network Reset; hard rebooting the phone; replacing the AP with an Apple Airport Extreme; and factory resetting a phone. Three iPhones in total exhibited the issue - all > 10.3.3.
My SSIDs were 31 and 32 characters respectively between the working/non-working AP.
Obvious in retrospect - but I tried changing the problematic 32-char SSID AP to an SSID of 'Bob' - same long password - and the problem has now gone. A simpler nine character SSID is also good.
Try simplifying your SSID as part of your diagnostics?
Very interesting! I just had the ATT reps take a look at my home network and they told me that they were recommending that their clients establish a 5 GHz channel and switch our iPhone 8s over to that network. I’m going to give it a try and see if we have any luck with that channel. Of note, the tech also mentioned that they were getting a lot of calls about compatibility issues with the 8 and X phones and home networks. He wasn’t at all surprised by our complaint and seemed to know exactly what he needed to do. More to follow.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It's my understanding that your new iPhone 8 has been unexpectedly disconnecting from Wi-Fi. I can see how this would be concerning, especially since you were experiencing this issue with your previous iPhone. I'm happy to help.
First, I recommend following the steps in the link below:
If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won't connect to a Wi-Fi network
If the issue persists, let us know if this occurs with multiple networks. Please include any additional steps you may have tried.
Have a wonderful day!
