Sounds as though it might be time to get the battery checked out and possibly replaced.

My 5s started running slower and doing random shut-downs, even with a full charge. It began doing these after the iOS 10 update, but since I'd had the phone for for 3 years by then, and it's my only phone for the past 2 years, I figured it was time to get clarity on why this was happening, as it was only getting worse with each update. It was driving me bonkers when traveling and needed Google Maps to guide me (btw, I'm still using iOS 10.3.3) and other apps to help find flight info, restaurants, etc.. I finally took my iPhone to my local Apple store in June of this year.

The tech I saw ran a diagnostic on my phone. One of the diagnostics showed how many charging cycles I'd done and that I only had 63% of battery usefulness/capacity left, even when fully charged... something I couldn't see myself to know that was the problem. The tech said I could either buy a new iPhone (I'm still considering buying an SE for several reasons, but haven't the cash right now) or replace the battery. The battery replacement would be $79 + sales tax and the Apple store could do it right then and there. I decided to investigate it a bit at home and learned an indy shop would likely charge about half what Apple does. So, I called 4 indy repair shops. The shop I went with charged me $32 + sales tax. The most expensive indy shop wanted $48 + sales tax. I could have bought all the necessary parts on Ebay and done it myself, but I was too worried of causing damage to my phone, because my eyesight isn't that great anymore. So, for the extra $10 or $20 dollars I paid, I figured it was worth sitting in the indy shop's waiting room for an hour (I actually went for a walk instead since it was gorgeous day) and letting someone more skilled than I do it for me. SO worth it! Having a new battery totally solved the slowness and random shut-down issues I was experiencing.

I haven't updated to iOS 11.x because I haven't got enough room in my iCloud storage account, and I can't afford to be without a phone, in case I run into any problems.

I also run a VPN on my phone to prevent snooping, etc. too. Yes, it eats up battery charge when it's running, but replacing the battery is much cheaper than buying a new phone.

Apple iOS 11.0.3 is absolute rubbish....

Never mind the fact that my 6S plus (128gb not even half full) is performing about as fast as a 4s, but to top it all off my colleague has a week old 8S which loses 50% battery power in lass than 6hrs.....

An absolute joke..... Seriously Apple what’s happened to QA/QC of your software before release?

11.0.4 better be addressing these issues and about to be release.

Apple user since 1996 that is seriously thinking of moving to Android

Today I bought the Imazing software. With Imazing you can read the internal smartphone folders. I used this software with several iphone in my possession. Only in the iphone 6 plus I noticed that since I updated to ios 11, the log folder was filled with incidents due to bugs. I have already reset the phone, the battery drains abnormally, the photo app is really slow as everything else in general.

You don't even have an iPhone and you're telling everyone their phone should be running fine on iOS 11? Well it doesn't ... the performance is horrible. This issue is with countless iPhone 6 and 6s users. It isn't a coincidence. The performance dropped substantially after the release of 11 and it hasn't improved with any of the updates. This is not a battery issue, it happened to everyone immediately after installing iOS 11.

11.0.3 update has ruined My iPhone 6s speed. It was super quick and perfect before the install. Now it takes 3-5 seconds to open all apps. Its RIDICULOUS.

Writing texts is painful. You click on the keyboard and there is a huge lag.

It’s honestly as slow now as a phone from 10 years ago. Apple customer service so far have been useless just asking for the same details over and over (what country, what apps are affected, when did I do the update blah blah)

Apple broke my phone with their poorly tested update, yet they’ve issued no software fix. Nice way to respect your millions of customers Apple.

Identical issues with my iPhone 6 Plus after installing 11.03 (Running 6.17.00 Firmware).

- Keyboard responsiveness is slow

- Games are laggy and unplayable

- Toggling between apps causes some apps to crash and others take seconds to open.

- Opening a message directly from a lock screen is not possible. All I get is a white screen and I have to unlock the phone, quit message and start again.

- Battery Life is noticeably shortened

I thought it was just my phone because it was out dated but it sounds from this string that 6S, 7S & even 8 are being hobbled but the OS.

When will they announce a fix?

Has their been any recognition from Apple that they're destroying the usability of their hand sets?

I have an iPhone 6s Plus, but I’m having the same problems too. Apps crash, messages don’t come through, the entire phone will freeze up multiple times a day, and the worst part: my battery is being sucked dry while the phone does nothing at all. Before I would get through most of the day before needing to recharge (or take a battery pack out with me), but now the phone will last maybe three hours tops — and that’s reducing every battery draining app possible and changing all my settings to help preserve power. I basically have to keep it plugged in all the time now, I just had to buy a new mophie for it, AND I STILL have to carry a portable battery pack charger with me when I’m not in my office.

I see where Apple is going with this update, and I see the promise and features they want (which is great!), but it’s obviously flawed and shouldn’t have been made available to anyone with a phone older than an iPhone 7 until the bugs were solved.

I’m in the middle of running an election right now, and just to get me through, I’ve had to go out and buy an Android phone so I can actually receive messages and phone calls. This is insane.

I’ve already contacted support and I purposely left my case open so I can file complaints with the state and federal governments, so they can look into the issue on a consumer level; I’ve also done it in Canada where I’m working right now.

Yeah yeah, I get it, Apple wants me to upgrade to a brand new iPhone, MacBook Pro (admittedly, it does need to be upgraded), upgrade to a new iPad Pro, and to upgrade my two year old iMac. I *get* it. But I bought the phone outright from an Apple Store, and I still have to pay Verizon for service each month.

Apple, please fix this. Filling out consumer complaints with the correct agencies is something I actually enjoy doing, because I’ve never had an agency turn my request down. Please don’t make me waste my weekend doing that.

Do not count on Apple releasing a patch. They want you to upgrade to a new phone. A company the size of Apple conducts thorough testing before releasing a new ios version. They know exactly what they are doing. They are forcing customers to purchase a new phone. And for those who do not upgrade right away, they know the sluggish phone will ultimately mean those customers will upgrade faster. They do not care that we are not happy, they actually like it, because they know customers will keep upgrading. It may be time to say goodbye to Apple.

I received now warning that my iPhone 6 Plus was going to become a useless brick on being forced to update to iOS 11. If I can't go back to iOS 10 or Apple fixes the problem I'll be swapping to Google PIXEL not just for me but for my whole family and anyone else that will listen. There is no doubt that Apple are using this as an opportunity to FORCE upgrades because they've stopped innovating to make it worthwhile to upgrade.

I’ve had iPhones for 10 years now ever since iPhone 3. It’s the same story every time. New iOS comes out then your outdated phone all of a sudden becomes super sluggish and noticably laggy overnight with the update. I guess it’s another sign from Apple to force me to buy their newest product? Or maybe I should go with google pixel this time and leave Apple for good? Better yet I should buy Apple stocks and ride the wave. In any case it’s a win for Apple and not for the people that use it daily. Good grief.

My IPhone 6 has been extremely slow as well. Heard that Apple was trying to conserve battery life.... better explanation would be that they are trying to sell more new phones. If this doesn’t get fixed, I may have to go away from IPhones. I have had them since the beginning, but selling a product working one way and then switching it later to make it so slow that it is horrible to use is complete BS.....
