Apple Maps not working

This past week I updated my iPhone 6 to the most recent iOS 11 update, and ever since then my Apple and google maps have not been working. I put in the address I want to go to and it seems to be working fine until I click “go” it tells me my first step (continue on so&so, make a right at so&so), but the marker doesn’t move. It just stays in the same place even when I myself am moving. I’ve already restarted my location settings and network settings and I’ve even messed with the location, WiFi, and airplane mode toggles. But nothing is happening. Help me please!!

Hello Talyafaith,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It's my understanding the after updating your iPhone, Maps won't update your position as you start moving. You've done a great job trying to get this resolved! I'm happy to help.

First, remove and restore the Maps app using the steps in the following link:
Remove built-in Apple apps from the Home screen on your iOS 10 device or Apple Watch

If the issue persists, reinstall iOS with iTunes. This can resolve possible software issues. When reinstalling iOS, iTunes will completely remove your current software and install a fresh version. While iTunes will try to do this without removing data, it's a good idea to make sure you have a recent backup before trying this step.
How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Use the steps in the link below to reinstall iOS with iTunes:
If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Please let us know if the issue continues and include any other troubleshooting steps you may have tried.

Have a great day!

I FOUND THE SOLUTION FOR MY MAPS APP ISSUES: After dealing with Apple for a week (a major time suck and no joy) and receiving zero help other than them repeatedly suggesting "purchase a new iPhone," this afternoon I Googled local mobile phone repair shops in my area and chose the one with the highest ratings. I bring the iPhone 6 in (as it's no longer under warranty anyway as Apple told me multiple times this past week) and voila, the guy immediately knows the problem (didn't even look at it!)

It's a KNOWN issue with the iPhone 6 - the antennas go out on them all the time! Not only did the antenna replacements fix the Maps App, but my WiFi is also now working soooo much better!

$60.00. One hour. A guarantee on the work.
Repair Guy told me that it's such a known issue that he always keeps the parts on hand. (I am highly suspecting that our Apple friends are very, very aware that the antenna's are an issue too - possibly not the "Geniuses", but definitely the engineers and upper management/operations - and rather than offering up this easy solution, and then fixing it, even at the customer's cost, their "solution" is ALWAYS going to be "spend $800 - 1200 and get an updated iPhone.) I was immensely happy when I used my iPhone 6's "Maps" to go first to the grocery store when I left the actual iPhone "Genius' repair shop, and then again to my home (continually re-routing just to make certain.)

So I FIXED this problem by turning off the by changing Do not Disturb setting.

It was set to automatically when connected to car bluetooth system, I changed it to manually and I never faced the problem again. Though it's just 3 days of testing but it's working fine and earlier it has given me issue every now and then.

using Iphone X on latest ios 11.3 Beta.

The WiFi/GPS cable needs to be replaced. My boyfriend took my phone apart and replaced the part. It cost about $7 or $8 on eBay. It’s a tedious task and requires certain tools, so let someone do it who knows what they are doing. My boyfriend works in computer repairs so he had all the needed tools and just found the step by step on google. It only took about 45 minutes to do but it fixed my gps and Bluetooth problem.

This is the issue I had! I had both apple maps and google maps on my phone. You have to delete both, or any and all maps on the phone. It didn't fix until I deleted the stock apple maps first. So, delete apple maps, and any and all other maps. Re-install apple maps, but dont' use it. Then make sure you have google maps installed again, and it should work. I think the other maps need something in the system files that apple maps provides and deleting it and re-installing fixes it.

@KevinX3 - thank you. You’ve been very helpful. I have all of their names because I’ve been sent their customer feedback forms. I will definitely file a complaint.

Hopefully my experience documented here will help others with the same maps app issue look for an antenna repair. I was really happy to have it repaired for $60, rather than paying 80-1200 for another phone after only 3.5 years.

Again, thanks for your feedback because your telling me to ask the “hardware repair” question helped lead me to the solution (even if it wasn’t Apple which solved it). :)

Thank you for your answer here. I’d been suffering with the same issue. Having just moved to France, I was completely lost without maps. I followed your advice. Deleted Apple maps, deleted google and waze map apps. Reinstalled Apple maps and then google maps. Didn’t use Apple maps as you suggested. I used google maps today and it worked perfectly. Thank you so much for the fix.

Just got off my 8th or 9th call with Apple Care. last week it was an hour with a supervisor, who said the engineers admitted they knew there was an issue with some people's 6 and 6s but could not resolve it. The supervisor set up an appointment at an Apple store for me so last night I spent an hour there. They told me I had to pay $389 for a new iPhone 6 because they could not resolve my issue. I had them run a diagnostic and it showed that my phone's hardware is perfect, meaning it's a software issue. They set up ANOTHER call with Apple, which I just had. They said that even though my phone is fine I would still have to pay to replace it because it is out of warranty. I use Maps on my iPhone for work as a courier, so I have to have a reliable maps app. I told them they leave me no choice but to choose another manufacturer's phone because there is no way I can risk this happening again. Ridiculous. They had a chance to make a customer happy but instead they lost me.
