I would guess that a ring is the sound you have selected when you receive mail? Go to Settings>Sounds & Haptics, and see what sound you have selected for Mail. Also, if you have more than one mail account, you have the option to select a different sound for each mail account. Go to Settings>Notifications>Mail, and then select the account in question, then you can change the sound if desired.

A backup with iCloud would have helped, but it is not a problem to re-enter wi-fi passwords. An iCloud backup saves that information, but also saves other things, including problems, depending on where they were coming from. If you are still experiencing this ringing, and it has nothing to do with a phone call, but mail, then I would restore the phone to factory, and add content back individually, not using your backup. This would include adding your mail accounts back individually as well.

Thank you Chris. Somehow my settings changed for received mail and my phone call ring was selected for emails. I changed it thanks to your suggestion. Perfect!

Have you found issues with iOS 11.0? I have updated to iOS 11.0.3 since on the prior update 02 I had phone call issues. Apple tech told me to reset my network which I did however had to input my password for my home network and will probably have to put in passwords at other locations I visit. Not sure if a backup would have helped. As I told the Apple tech .02 would soon be replaced by 11.0.3 which it was within a week. Thanks again for your kind and correct response to my issue.

Chris, I forgot to add that when I updated to 11.0.2 I was receiving random phone calls from contacts to whom I had not called. The ring would come in however the answer page with the green and red phone circles did not come up. It was ringing randomly for two days. That’s when I spoke with Apple tech support who told me to do a Network Reset. This caused me to lose my Wi-Fi and had to reset my password. No big deal except as mentioned will probably have to put in all passwords for places I visit where I had inserted my password. No back up to the cloud suggested by the tech. Should I in your opinion have backed up my phone to save passwords for other Wi-Fi locations or would a back up not have saved the passwords? Thank you again and if you have an answer would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks Super community follower.

CHRIS, thank you for your fast reply. I am not getting the random phone calls since the update 11.03 resolved the prior issue with .0.2. I understand what you are saying about backing up possibly creating other issues and it’s as you state easy enough to put in the Wi-Fi passwords where ever I go when needed. Do you know if this latest update would affect Bluetooth pairing with my automobile since the volume is not loud coming from the center console screen as it was prior to updating to iOS 11? Thanks again

You're welcome. It wasn't that I believed Bluetooth was not supported, it is whether or not the vehicle supports the latest Bluetooth stack, which the phone has. Vehicle manufacturers get copies of the iOS and have to test and report if their devices still work or if they need updates so they can provide this information to their customers. Hope they take care of you.

Thank you again for your insight. A very good question to ask the dealer or car maker since the vehicle may not support the new new stack with the latest iOS. Definitely a very valid thought and i will ask the dealership. My honest opinion is the dealer as well as the maker of the vehicle will be clueless. The car is a MB S550 which is filled with technology however was late to the party with updating pairing of iPhones with the vehicle. Only become easier last year as odd as that may sound. Your good. Do you have any iMac computer knowledge? If so how do i stop the dreaded spinning wheel at least until the proposed new iMac comes out later this year? Sorry to throw another device at you. Thanks again.

I know that MB is catching up, so it should not be a problem. I know there were issues with their system and using the internet, but that is as much as I know about it. Had something to do with the type of connection it used.

No, I have no knowledge on the iMac, I'm not a Mac user. My experience with Apple is my family of iPhones for 5 people, and 3 iPads. Good luck. You may want to wander over to the iMac forum and post there. Many qualified users there to help you out. Have a great weekend, what is left of it.

Bluetooth in my vehicle is supported however i thought possibly the change to iOS 11 may have caused a decrease in the automobile phone volume.

Today was the first time that I took a call in my wife's 2017 Hyundai, and as usual I picked up the call with the car. I noticed that the volume appeared to be rather low, and I immediately thought of our conversation. I turned the volume up on the car's system, and that did not seem to really make a difference. I picked up the phone to change over to the phone to hear the conversation better, and I decided to adjust the volume with the buttons on the side of the phone as a last minute attempt to fix things. The screen showed the volume box, and it said Bluetooth, but it also showed that it was quite low. I was sitting at a traffic light, so I watched the car screen and pressed the buttons on the phone to turn up the volume, and was pleasantly surprised that it raised the volume of the call in the car, without changing the volume setting I had in the car for the call. It was almost like when you have music playing on a radio and adjust the line in volume. More volume in, allowed for more adjustment of the volume with the car. You might want to try this. Get into a call, and find someone willing to test this with you. Have them talk to you, and then adjust the volume on the phone. See what that does, and if it makes a difference with hearing the call, and if it makes any adjustment to the settings in your car. Check where the volume setting was in the car (for me that it easy as it is reported in numbers), then after increasing the volume on the phone, if it raises the volume of the call, then try turning up the volume in the car and see if the settings changed. Seems I'm always learning something with these devices!

Hi, how ironic is the communication we had yesterday regarding the low volume in my car and you experienced the same issue this morning in your wife's car. Had i not mentioned my Bluetooth phone issue you might be wondering as I was what was happening. I will take your advice and try what you did by raising the volume on my iPhone as i am speaking and hopefully the volume from the car will raise up. Hyundai is far better then Mercedes since they have a volume bar/number which i don't have. I will still speak with the dealership however i believe you have definitely verified what needs to be done after upgrading to iOS11.

One item, did bluetooth come up on your phone volume line?

Thank you Chris and i will let you know how all turns out if my wife can stand the calls from my phone-lol

Hi Chris, Sorry for replying so late to you. First time i have had to thank you for the Bluetooth car phone volume issue.Had you not advised me what you did to raise the car volume i would still be going crazy. Worked first time with a call to my wife. I looked at my iPhone, raised the volume and saw the Bluetooth in the volume bar. Never saw that until you mentioned it. Thank you once again for your attention to detail and your great assistance with the ringing as well as the car Bluetooth issue.

Be well my friend,

Richard

If so do you turn off email on your wrist and if so how do you do it.

You're welcome about the Bluetooth issue. Seems to be something new, as I've never had it react that way in the past.

As far as your question about mail, you can set your watch to sync whatever mail you wish. I have two accounts that I use with the native mail app on the phone. My work Exchange account, and my personal account. My Exchange account is the one I use the most, so I have it set on my watch. I have an original watch. To determine what mail accounts you want to use on the watch, go to your Watch app on the iPhone, then go to Mail. Now, if you only have one account, it won't matter, but if you have more than one account on the phone this part is important. Instead of Mirror my iPhone, you select Custom. Then you set alerts, Show on or off, then turn on the alert for whichever account you wish to use. After that, you set mail settings, include the account you want to use on the phone, and any other setting you wish. If you want to turn them all off, then just turn alerts off for all your accounts, and under mail settings, do not select an account.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Chris for the guidelines for using my Apple Watch for mail. I had the first generation Watch and never received emails. Perhaps it was not set up to receive them. Not sure if receiving emails on my Watch is favorable since i don't expect to reply with the watch. Do you use the emails on your watch to reply?

Thank you once again for your insight and again thanks for the Bluetooth/car issue. You're good.

Richard
