Since my upgrade to High Sierra, I can't download, read, quicklook ..... almost any attachments.
Especially PDF documents are problematic. It shows a light blue sign "Dowloading" under the file icon.

Any emails with attachments that come into a smart mailbox will exhibit the "downloading" problem. If I access the same email in its regular inbox, the attachment downloads without issue. So add "smart mailboxes" to the bug pile. Are you listening Apple?
This does not work for me.
This has been going on for some time, and it appears Apple has no intention of fixing. Not the actions of a company that intends to stay in business.
4 Months with this bug ! Yikes. Apple is not listening to this forum.
I've moved to Airmail 3. Works with iOS also..
Not perfect, but it downloads files with rules.
Inline photos are easy. Would love attachment quicklook images to print with email. But they don't like Apple.
Airmail's online chat are quick to reply... we'll add that to the next version.
Problem, I asked them about this once a year for the path three years.
That reply seems to be a standard "signature" reply by them for anything they don't know.
When this happens to me - and I have no way of predicting it - my only recourse is to find the email on my iPhone and resend it to my Mac. Not ideal, but it always works.

(Mojave 10.14.1 is out, but they still haven't fixed this bug!)
remove the account and add it back it will resolve the issue
