Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities, derekfromcoleraine.
If I understand your post correctly, you have to manually press the Sleep/Wake button to lock your iPhone as it is not automatically locking. I'd like to help.
Let's take a look at the setting that can affect this feature. Tap Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock and see which amount of time it is currently set to Auto-Lock after. If you have Low Power Mode enabled, Auto-Lock will be automatically set for 30 seconds. For more information about Low Power Mode, see this article:
Use Low Power Mode to extend battery life on your iPhone
Let us know if that resolves this issue for you.
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Take care.
PS to my post... I did a complete shut down and restart and that seemed to work.
Mine is doing the same. I've changed all the different auto lock times, hard reset, and nothing works. I have to manually hit the lock button for the screen to turn off. Did you get yours fixed?
I notice there is another open thread on this issue here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8128889
Restarting the iPhone 8 worked for me. Hopefully, it stays that way.
I was having the same issue and the restart worked for me as well.
My wife's phone had the same issue and the old standby of turning it off and back on again fixed it too.
I have the same problem with my iPhone 8. Yes, a restart fixes it temporarily but it always comes back.
Same issue!
Hi, the solutions do not work for me , why. Many people have the same problem and they don't solve the problem, why you said the problem is solved.
I have the same problem, and any method could not solve my problem, is there any buy in the iso 11 and iphone hardware?
I have the same issue also. I just rebooted it and it worked, but in a few days it will not go to sleep mode again. Please fix Apple!
I have the same problem. A reset will solve it for a week or so but then it's back.
Hello :-),
i have the same issue. Auto-lock is set to 1 minute, but it just stays on.
This also happens even if the phone is locked - the display just stays on.
Can anyone help?
Also having this issue. Restarting seems to fix it temporarily but it comes back. Never had this issue with ios 10 / iphone 6s.
Same issue with my iPhone 8
