Bluetooth not working High Sierra

Hi there,

Updated my OS a while ago (2 weeks?) and my Bluetooth isn't working ever since. Turned it on and off a few times, didn't work. So I decided to reset the Bluetooth module, that didn't work either. Neither did removing all connected devices.

The problem is that my Bluetooth keep searching for devices, but can't find any.

Any ideas on how to fix this? People with similar problems?

I'm having 2 issues with bluetooth since updating to High Sierra.

1) Similar to you I have connection issues and in the bluetooth section of system preferences the option to delete the device is unavailable. Restarting the OS brings back the option to delete the device in system preferences and then a re-pair get's me back up and running. Having to do this at irregular intervals. No idea what triggers the connection issue.

2) The balance for music is off when using headphones with iTunes. I have bluetooth headphones that can also be connected with an analog aux-in. With the aux-in the headphones work perfectly. When I use the bluetooth function to stream the music the left earphone is far louder than the right. What the heck.

Update on this - after an update of OSx last night on machine, today a new message suddenly popped up in the middle of the day declaring that my keyboard was operating via a wired connection. I tried the magic mouse and it connected straight away - unpliugged the keyboard and same. And they have stayed active via a number of power offs (to sleep).

I just got the feeling that the new message might indicate some activity in keyboard/mouse support. Will post further later.

I bought the brand new iMac 2017 27" and was very excited there was an update after all those years. That happiness slowly disappeared after having constant bluetooth problems with mouse and keyboard. I've tried fresh install, resetting bluetooth and every thing suggested to solve the problem. Nothing really worked or worked for a few days and running to the same issues again. A week ago I ran against a deadline for a job and my mouse started to behave slow at first and ended up unresponsive. I missed my deadline. The apple support are nice and well trained but don't acknowledge this problem. I even send them this link to the discussion site and their respons was that although 1197 threads about this is a lot... it's not that many to make it a problem on all the millions of mac sold. I just bought a wired mouse and keep my magic keyboard wired to finish my job. As soon this job is done, I'll go to the Apple Store with my computer. Let them solve it (it's an high sierra problem...). If not, I want my money back and will never, ever buy something from Apple again! I'm working since 1989 with Apple and used to be a devoted fan. However these last 6 years I run more and more into trouble (software related) with Apple that the brand Apple becomes equal to overpriced and unreliable.

iOS is a mess and so is MacOS today. The frustrations doesn't justify the high price.

Henk,

Thanks for posting. Sorry about your frustrations.

It is pretty pathetic that something that mandates purchase of additional equipment in order to use base functionality is something severe enough not to need large numbers of sufferers.

But it puzzles me what the combination is - what other factor combines with High Sierra to give a select few this problem. I asked my store if I could invoice them for the replacement mouse and they said no.

As I said elsewhere on this site, each new OSx release degrades existing functionality - there is no systems programmer respect for legacy code. And as for the inability across multiple OSx releases to REMEMBER the app to desktops assignments after reboot is staggering.

I use my Mac every day and still prefer it by far to Windows, but in spite of not because of Apple's current work on the system.

I have the same issue since 2 weeks using Win 10 Pro as dual Boot on my iMac 5k.

The current Bootcamp Drivers for Windows are also lacking for reliable Bluetooth Connection.

I am using Apple Trackpad, Magic Mouse and Keyboard and at the moment only the keybaord works.

Under OSX High Sierra they are all working after reconnection but I Count on Support also under Windows.

What's up?

Apr 17, 2018 10:47 AM in response to bronsrobin

I have followed all the fixes I can found, still have same problems. Bluetooth also shuts down totally and shows "unavailable". If you go to System Preference it will show that BT is already turned on! The only way to restart BT is a total shutdown. First thing to do If you have these problems is to get a spare keyboard and mouse either with wires or with a NANO USB CONNECTION at least you can now keep using your iMac. Come on APPLE help us here..!!!!

Hi Tony. BootCamp or virtual Windows sound good, although they give me some concern that something might go wrong, asking myself, do I know enough about computers to do it?...Q for you: Lost some Flight sim games about 4 iMac OS upgrades ago ( no more support ) would I be able to play them with Windows? Also many more games available for Windows, will they work when played on the iMac machine.

Thanks for your interest.

I only want working drivers also under Win 10 Pro. This cannot be that difficult.

I have managed to run Win 10 Pro from an external SSD on my iMac and do not want to spend money

for a VM solution I do not need and costs performance.

I have bought my first iMac because you can also run Windows natively with the Intel CPUs.

Apple should react quick here!

Very strange.

The last few days, bluetooth has been working mostly fine. After log in from sleep, it can take a few seconds to kick in, but it does do so. Nothing changed in my room/devices or osx release.

This is baffling.

I still get internet access dropping out for about 15 seconds (Chrome and Safari) after log in from sleep - all whilst Spotify continues to stream music without interruption (I can skip to the next track to ensure not a cache situation).

Not sure how this relates, but it is irritating also.

After contacting the Apple Support via chat free of charge I have got the following advice:

1.) Shutdown your Apple device

2.) Disconnect from power supply for several minutes

3.) Delete the VRAM by pressing "Option+Command+P+R" simultaniously when booting => you get a second boot signal

4.) Debugging Bluetooth under OSX by holding Shift+ Alt and selecting the Bluetooth symbol on the desktop top right

Everything works fine again. Hopefully this will help you too.
