I had a problem with extremely low volume on my Iphone 6 - SOLVED!.

Other functions like, speaker, bluetooth were OK.

The solution was a big surprise to myself - since I was sure it was SW or a setting somewhere.

I carefully cleaned the little slot in the glas in the frontside of the phone where the sound comes out in normal use. I used a little piece of cotton with a little water/soap for dishwashing - do not soak it in water - did this app 5 times. I then used alcohol - did this app 5 times.

I almost cannot believe the change it did ;o) I had to adjust the volume down again.

So in my case it wasn't SW or settings - but simply dirt (not visible to me) that had to be mechanically remowed.

Embarrassingly enough after much frustration yelling, I ended up with the same result from the same solution.

Cleaned front slot in glass with a cleaner on earbud and then used Acetone with earbud to remove cleaner.

Also cleaned the small front small hole next to camera in reverse side and then the bottom slots next to the charging port.

Perfection! Crystal clear clarity and more volume than I need.

It would appear we inadvertently clog these small ports with whatever creams etc we have on our faces... or muck thats in our pockets, or much from whatever environments we carry our phones in.

I think I found a solution online. I folowed https://www.unlockboot.com/low-call-volume-on-iphone-7-plus-7-fix/

What helped me is #1 and #4. I hear 50% better. Still not as good as my wife's, who is seldom uses her phone.

The conclusion: The ear speaker slot gets dirt from around us, oils from the face skin, plus dust, which is not easy to clean, because it penetrates through tiny holes in the iPhone mesh. So I used the toothpick and my vacuum cleaner.

@jamesfromsomting,

I have scrubbed my earpiece to death with no result. Finally went into the Genius Bar. They ran diagnostics which showed an issue with the microphone. I said the other party had no problems hearing me. The guy said the earpiece and the mic were one unit.

Anyway he said he cleaned out all orifices and not sure what else (he did say there was crap in the earpiece even after my vigorous cleaning). The bottom line is volume is now good, loud is loud and quiet is quiet.

So I don’t know exactly what he did and the problem seemed to occur after an iOS 11 upgrade, but it’s fixed now.

To others with this issue:

My suggestion (although others have had little luck) is to st least give the Genius Bar a try. It’s worked for a couple of us, not so well for others. You’ve got nothing to loose.

When I started the support call it asks do I believe I should not have to pay because no Applecare and no warranty. I said I believed I should not pay and I didn’t. So the most it will cost us your time into the GB and, who knows, it just might work.

Solution1:

with dry cotton simply rub the speaker. dont give pressure or dont use any chemical.

solution 2: remove any screen gaurd over speaker

solution 3: keep maximum volumn in settings.

solution 4 : if still you cant hear sound then dont waste time. It means there is wax or thick dust particle behind speaker. you simply remove the iphone with experienced person and clean speaker from inner side and remove all wax. Never open from unexperienced person.

This happened to me too. I went to an apple store last week after having the issue for about a moth. She said sometimes the updates do mess with the sound so what she did was back up my phone then she ran a diagnostics scan and it confirmed the issue. She backed it up again and restored the phone AKA (factory reset). Don’t panic. Because you backed everything up it will all come back when u log back in to your Apple ID. It takes a while to bring it all back but it does work! Hope this helps!
