I had a problem with extremely low volume on my Iphone 6 - SOLVED!.
Other functions like, speaker, bluetooth were OK.
The solution was a big surprise to myself - since I was sure it was SW or a setting somewhere.
I carefully cleaned the little slot in the glas in the frontside of the phone where the sound comes out in normal use. I used a little piece of cotton with a little water/soap for dishwashing - do not soak it in water - did this app 5 times. I then used alcohol - did this app 5 times.
I almost cannot believe the change it did ;o) I had to adjust the volume down again.
So in my case it wasn't SW or settings - but simply dirt (not visible to me) that had to be mechanically remowed.

Using the external speaker, ear pods, Bluetooth headset etc etc etc are all work arounds and do not address the root cause.
This issue was finally resolved for me after Resetting Networks Settings under General in settings. Hope this helps someone else.

This cannot be a small issue thousands of iPhones have been affected by this low call volume problem.Apple should do something about this quickly.
There is Iphone 8 which works great!

I have the 6s and have this same ussue after the last update. I use my phone for work, and I’m about to go get an Android after this nonsense.

I think the final solution of this issue is to switch to an android 😡
use android phone as coaster and continue using iphone.
If iOS 12 doesn’t fix the issue I’ll buy an android phone & use it and use the iPhone as a substitute for toilet paper.
