Have you checked Settings>General>Keyboard>Text Replacement? If you have that set as a text replacement, and you have multiple devices using the same Apple ID, the problem would go away after you restored the phone but would eventually re-sync through iCloud.
Just spoke to Apple Care. There will likely be a device update to permanently fix the issue, but they gave me a temp solve that worked:
- go to settings, general, keyboard, text replacement
- hit the plus sign to create a new text replacement
- in the “phrase” bucket type a lower case “i” and in the shortcut bucket type an upper case “I”; then hit save
- hit the plus sign to create a second new text replacement
- in the “phrase” bucket type an upper case “I” and in the shortcut bucket type another upper case “I”; then hit save
Yes, I agree it must be the software. Ironic that it happened to most of us on Friday. When i simply shut off the phone and turn back on, it goes away temporarily. Sometimes it appears that it worked correctly, but recipients have the symbol show up on there end and they ask me what is going on. I have tried some other searches and some posts point to a Unicode issue. Just curious. Was anyone using SnapChat when this started. I was texting my daughter in snapchat when I first noticed the issue. It then also appeared in text.
If you are experiencing this issue and have a computer, PLEASE contact AppleCare so they can collect log data from your device and look at the code of the phone to fix.
Just got done and it took about 30 mins once I had a Senior Advisor.
They cannot fix our software without seeing the code of the issue.
Just some advice from someone who also wants this issue resolved ASAP.
Thank you!

I appreciate the reply but I’d really like a true fix, not a work around.
I agree. I want a fix not a work around. It’s very very frustrating. My phone isn’t even a week old.
Mine is the same. Facebook, Instagram, email. It looks like the “I” is correct but when I publish I end up with symbols. I’ve had to correct it many times just to get the correct I to show here.
Yes. Everyone I know that has the issue it started on friday. And I have spent probably about 2-3 hours already today with Apple working on trying to get it fixed
They are working with me to log the issue and send it up to engineering now to get a more permanent fix for the solution

That is not the issue. It's in the hardware or software so apple is documenting it and sending it to their engineering department now
Same issue On my 7+, iPad Pro, and iPad mini 4 All on iOS 11.0.3.
Restored devices.
issue was gone for 12 hours.
Came back though.
I have disabled autocorrect for the time being.
I’ve reset all text replacements but I never add to them anyway.
I'm pretty confident it is software.
Hardware would not be the reason to affect my iPad's as well.
Hoping this gets fixed in 11.1
Yes, first noticed in snapchat, then twitter, and safari. right now my text works fine, but I can see where in texts it wants to autocorrect to the symbols but then doesn't actually.
My iphone 8 plus is autocorrecting the letter I to I️. I have tried resetting the keyboard, dismissing the correction many times to unlearn it and turning off my phone. Why is it doing this and how do I make it stop?
