ios 11.1 battery drain

Like most, I was suffering from a huge battery drain since I have upgraded to ios 11.

I have waited for ios 11.1 as everyone was mentioning that it will fix the battery issue. I have upgraded to ios 11.1 two days ago but now I feel that my battery is draining even faster. I can see the battery percentage dropping 2 points every 2 to 3 minutes of usage.

A fully charged iPhone 6s running ios10 used to last me a full day. Now I need to recharge 2 to 3 times per day for the same workload.

Hi Wazicop,

Like many iPhone users, you are suffering the same as them because Apple have sent a letter out to their Apple websites saying that they will be slowing down iPhones 6s Plus and lower because of old batteries. They say that you can get a new battery for a way cheaper price, like for $29 instead of like $100. Your problem sits perfectly in line with the letter, so if I were you, I’d get a new battery.

Apple will say it's your battery and deny that they have an IOS 11 issue regarding draining the batteries. After all they got caught lying regarding slowing down older phones! IOS 11 has something going on in the background that is causing the battery to drain quickly. What I found was, if my phone is just on but no apps, location services, background refresh or notices is on, the phone stays near 100% As soon as you use an app, the phone starts draining about 2% within minutes. This was the worst experience I had with Apple since 1993. They stopped me from using my phone the way it was designed and the reason I purchased one.

There was definitely a severe problem in iOS 11.2.1. My battery was draining so fast that I had to keep wifi and mobile data off the whole day to survive through the day. Also the phone had become very slow.

Contacted Apple, they remote diagnosed and said battery needs replacement.

But after updating to 11.2.2 the battery is fine now. Also the slowness is fixed. They seem to have removed the code to slow down the older phones. 🙂

Do not let anyone from apple or otherwise say it is your hardware or how you are using it. Out of the 80 to hundred comments from here and other accredited forums and testers all agree, 11. to 11.2.2 have horrible battery life even if everything is off in your phone. I could go without a charge with 10.3.3 for over two days with almost everything functioning like app refresh, notifications, location services etc. Now with 11.2.2, I am basically have an Iphone 6s that is running like a flip phone so can save battery performance. If Apple wants to save face they better do something regarding this issue instead of covering up the problem it as they did with the slowdown issue. IOS 11 is doing something in the background that is draining the battery.

+1, I agree, huge change in battery consumption from iOS 10 to 11, without any change in usage pattern or any setting or any new apps installed.

In September Apple used to say:

"After a major upgrade, there is a lot of activity going on in the background (syncing, face and object recognition, Spotlight re-indexing, performing house cleaning tasks, etc). The first few days after an upgrade are not an indication of normal usage. Give it time to settle down.

You can also try a Restart, just in case your particular issues have a different cause."

We have been waiting since then for the "extra activity" to settle down.

Exactly the same. Upgrading from 10 to 11 adversely affected battery life on both my iphone 7+ and ipad 10.5. Upgraded to 11.1 hoping for a fix but its even worse - way worse! Its dropping like crazy. What in the world is going on? Light use on iphone was at 48% after maybe 5 hours. Ipad pro went from 100% to 65% in same time and I did nothing with it at all.

Exact same issues with me!

I've never seen this before - but my iPhone 6s keeps repeatedly shutting down and then starting up again over and over due to the battery level not staying at an acceptable level during the startup process, even when connected to a power charger!!! How ridiculous is this...!?!

Even when I had it charged at 100% earlier today... I wasn't even using it, and went to pick it up and the iPhone 6s was completely hot. That can't be good for the electronics inside.

What is going on Apple!!!???!!!

If you have the .ipsw file, plug your iPhone into iTunes and hold down the shift key as you click 'Restore iPhone' in iTunes. Should give you the option to select the .ipsw file from there. Same thing with a mac except you hold down the option key as you click Restore iPhone. That should let you revert back. I am curious to know if you have any luck!

Now as far as restoring content from an iCloud backup to an older version of iOS if the backup was created on a newer one, I am not sure how that would work. But if you just need a fresh start on iOS 10.3.3 that should do the trick.

I agree Apple is more concerned with emojiis than the battery. They in essence ruined our phones, perhaps a class action suit should be addressed. What may be happening in this bug ridden 11 series, the software may have a bug in it relating on how it reads the battery amperage. While there may be an actual amperage available, the software maybe reading it incorrectly and shutting down the phone or giving incorrect readings. My phone was perfect with 10.3.3. As soon as I went to IOS 11, the problem started. A couple users changed their battery to no avail as reported here. Various websites are ablaze with this battery problem yet not fix. I can not use my phone the way I use too anymore until this is resolved or a go to another brand. Thanks Apple!
