internet videos wont play in Quicktime

When I click on a video, no picture comes up, just the access bar with the play/pause and volume buttons appears. Also, I noticed on Ads, theres a big quicktime Q logo with a big question mark in front of it.

Many Internet videos are not in QuickTime format. If you can post the URL to one of the videos you're trying to play, perhaps someone here can check and see if the video is indeed something that should be able to play in QT or if it needs some other player (from your description, you may need Flash Player from Adobe, but that's just a guess at this point).

For example this one: http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v442/n7099/extref/442151a-s1.mov

This movie was created using Export feature of MAcromedia Flash 5 and Quick Time Pro 4. The movie was playing without any problem until the last update to the newest version of QuickTime.

I would be greatful, if somebody can clear me up, why the movie is srewed up now and how to fix this problem.

On the FAQ page of Apple they say that all versions of QuickTime are backwards compatible - so where is the compatibility? I have fo the test puposes installed back QuickTime 4 - the movie works under this version!

QuickTime version 7.1.3 has disabled Flash media out of some security issues. This is part of the standard QuickTime install.
Use the QuickTime Control Panel to "Enable Flash" (simple check box in the Advanced tab). Quit and relaunch the Player to view your link above.
You would also need to quit and relaunch any open browser to view them online in a Web page.

QuickTime doesn't play Flash Video. Flash Player does.
Install Flash Player.
You may also need to go to Sys Prefs/Advanced and click the MIME Settings button. Under "Miscellaneous" remove the check mark for Flash Media.
This will allow the Flash Player plug-in be used.
You'll need to quit and relaunch any open browser.
Oops. Windows side of these Discussions pages.
QuickTime Control Panel for you.

Where can I get the Flash Player.

An additional note, before I got this new computer, I had iTunes 7.0.2 with quicktime, and what puzzles me is that this save version works on my old computer without having to mess with settings or anything else, but when I got my new one, it is going on with it that I have no idea on why its doing it. What I think might be the problem, and I don't if it is or isn't but the computer I have is a Media Center PC and I'm wondering if maybe it has to do with some setting on the computer or maybe something else unknown with this computer.

Ok I got the flash player and everything but I still have some problems. The dreaded Q with the question mark in front of it is now gone, I can view videos on youtube.com, but still videos downloaded that are in quicktime format will not play. All I get is the access bar with the play/pause and so on. At this point, I think it might have to do with a setting I have to change.
