No service after iOS 11 update

iPhone 6 Plus getting searching or no service. I can make phone calls/iMessage while on WiFi. I’ve tried these steps:

1. Turn on/off, hard shut off as well.

2. Turn on/off airplane mode, cellular, LTE, roaming.

3. Reset network settings.

4. Reset all settings. (Worked for a day only).

5. Update to 11.1 iOS and 30.1 carrier update.

6. Check time and date settings.

7. Took out SIM card.

8. Took off case.

9. No water damages.

10. Restore (Worked for a day).

Looked at multiple sites and so far it still says searching. AT&T account is good. I have 5 iPhones on my account and they have not updated and they still work. (iPhone 5s, 6, 6, 7, 7). Trying to avoid going to the Apple store as I know they will probably throw a $320 charge as I’m out of warranty. Any tips is welcomed!

So bacailly the rep at apple told me that it was something to do with the SIM card reader and that it would cost the same as just getting a new iPhone 7 since they reduced it from taking mine back. I ended up getting a new one but I have not updated it to iOS 11 and I don't plan on it. It still doesn't explain why it wouldn't want to restore or update when it was in recovery mode. The phone worked great except the no service and searching issue.

Just called AT&T and talked to them for 3 hours. Only been transferred to 5 different people and none of them could fix it after trying to reset on their end. Service and area coverage is all good from what they said.

Last hope is probably waiting to see if an update will fix this otherwise a new phone is having to come.

Seriously, what part of any of our posts makes to think we haven’t tried ever single one of them steps!!!!!

Try reporting this thread to your managers and telling them there is a fault with the update that is effecting certain batches of iPhones, then they can look into it and do another product recall like the iPhone 5 battery recall issued a few years ago!!!!!

I just got a notification on my phone that say it needs to update my carrier settings. I have version 11.1.1 already and am not experiencing any problems, but after reading these comments I don’t think that I will be updating to these new CARRIER settings. Is that what your phone displayed to you when all this trouble began?

Nov 19, 2017 11:30 AM in response to cher806

Well I don’t wanna point any fingers but I updated my phone to 11.1.1 and my phone was working, when I updated the “carrier settings” is when my phone started the endless searching/no service, so take that however you wish. I did upgrade my phone so I wasn’t too worried but I still had no service for about a week straight. Not even the new SIM card helped -_____-.

My wife has the same issue, Carrier MintSim. I have tried all the instructions. The only way I was able to have render Service was when I did a Factory Restore, did not enter apple id, did not update carrier (per Apple phone support). It worked for an hour, now no service. I was getting ready to have go back to ATT but now I am afraid it will just be more of the same. She went to MintSim back in October before the iOS 11 update came out. It work just find for 2 maybe 3 weeks. Then after the update she notice issues but it was while driving and talking hands free so we didn’t pay any attention to it. Until finally, one day, no service or searching. That is it.

I do hope an new update comes quick. I feel for those if this is there only phone, no way to call anyone for support.

Okay, so I went back through the thread to check on one thing in particular - VoLTE coverage. No one has mentioned it.

When your 4g service gets congested due to it trying to send your voice and data info through together along with everyone else who is trying to do the same, the 4G tower is telling you "no, I just can't handle all of this right now and possibly for a while

Typically happens around seasonal times of the year, large events and related. Everyone is trying to transmit their calls, voicemail AND data through the 4g tower or towers near them. This is when we see "No service or searching and it can remain that way until the towers free up, which could be ???

VoLTE service however separates your voice transmissions from your data ones, to put it simply.

Voice transmissions are sent separate from data transmissions allowing your calls & data to transmit bc they are not so tied up or connected. They can focus on calls singularly and data singularly; 3g/4g, etc tried to transmit voice and data info TOGETHER. Not efficient in today's society. This type (VoLTE) of transmission just makes sense especially with emerging technology & the increase of mobile tech users

Most carriers offer you this type of service for free now. You simply have to make sure you have it initiated on your device and with your carrier.

Check on this. I've had mine with T-Mobile and previously, with Verizon for example & it was a rare occurrence and still is when I see "No service or searching"

I know it's a traffic issue so I wait, but there's no way I'd wait if I experienced at the level you all are.

I'd check to see if my carrier definitely has me on LTE coverage. I'd ask about what tower my device is pinging & what the status of that tower is.

I'd make sure my info is correct on phone & LTE is checked/on, but doesn't matter if my carrier doesn't see me set up as using LTE service through them.

So, start there.

There's much more on the topic but I just want to get this out there asap as I see you all continually struggling with no other options presented.

And yes, update your carrier settings or none of what any of us have offered or tried and/or will try will resolve the issue.

I'll attach info separately.

Please keep me updated ☺

Finally, if you can't use your cell coverage for whatever reason & have wifi, enable WiFi calling, so you can at least send and receive calls for the time being using WiFi.

I put my nan on this yesterday as her calls kept dropping. Her at&t service would go up to 2 bars max but quickly revert to 1 bar and stay there primarily.

So, I put her on WiFi calling and am checking in with at&t in-store due to pushback via phone and then, with her tomorrow on her coverage in general and her carrier settings on her device. Can't have my nan with no phone nor service, even if it means putting her on my plan or with my provider 😉

I have not tried or looked to use VoLTE. MintSim is under T-Mobile, I will check to see if they offer it. Also, I talk to MintSim Support, he ask me to call back when I have the phone and he will do a refresh through the tower. Not sure what means, but I have to take the SIM card out for 3 minutes. I will also ask about seeing her phone on the towers.

Right now, when my wife left, it was intermittent service where it when to No Service, I would switch to Airplane mode, wait 10 seconds, then turn Airplane mode off. Then I would turn off the phone, wait a few seconds, turn the phone back on and she would have service again for a little bit.

Not a good solution but might be helpful in a pinch. I will check on voice over wifi too.

I too have been experiencing this problem (at&t). To be more detailed, I experience the following:

- When my signal drops to 2 bars, that’s all she wrote... The phone will hang trying to load data of any kind.

- As a result of trying to get a signal, my phone will get warm (no doubt turning up the amplifier), and the phone will start burning through my battery. I sonetimes find myself down to 20% battery after lunch, from a full charge in the morning!

I can tell you for certain that this problem started IMMEDIATELY after the carrier update pushed on or around October 18th. The second carrier update pushed last week did nothing to resolve this issue, nor did upgrading to iOS 11.0.3... The carrier update is DEFINITELY what caused this issue, as I immediately noticed the change in my phone’s performance - the changes in my phone’s data and battery performance was like night and day, so that’swhy I know for a fact that it was that mid-October carrier update.

So here’s the question - is there any way that the previous Carrier update can be pushed back to the phone? Whoever is in charge of managing those updates (the carrier or Apple) should roll it back to the version that was active before that October update. I’m willing to bet that it would resolve the issue.

Nov 25, 2017 12:50 AM in response to TAL95

I'm having the same issues did everything that can be done that was suggested and even got a new sim card and of course Verizon wants to sell me a new phone. I'm not paying for my iphone7 because of a previous promotion so it would increase my bill 35 plus dollars to upgrade. My phone was working perfect and is in pristine condition before all this stuff went down. ANY NEW NEWS YET???

Nov 25, 2017 5:25 AM in response to TAL95

I ended up trying to restore my phone in dfu mode to get around the failing to register error. It would get through most of the restore until ‘updating firmware’ Step. It would then fail there every time. I then took it to apple Support and they decided it couldn’t be fixed and gave me a new one. I luckily had apple care. i Think it’s a software issue causing the hardware one. The phone didnt seem to notice i had a SIM card and it also didn’t throw the usual missing sim error when I removed it. What a waste of a week!
