Is anyone having problems with the battery life of the Siri remote for the 4K Apple TV?

I am experiencing issues with the Siri remote for the Apple TV 4K. I get about 2-3 days of usage before I receive notice the battery is running low on the remote and requires recharging. I use it with DirecTV Now and don't spend a great deal of time changing channels so there isn't a great deal being asked from the remote.

I had the issue as well. Apple sent me a new remote and it didn’t help the issue. I ended up doing a factory reset on the Apple TV and the remote battery life was restored to months instead of days. It’s a pain but so is having to recharge your remote every night.

Hi all,

I think someone else may have mentioned that they have done this (and they wiped their apple TV too) but the fix for me was definitely to turn off the two options at the bottom of Remotes and Devices (in Settings):

"Turn On Your TV with Your Remote" - and - "Volume Control"

Turned them both off and, voila, we have success! It might just be one of the options but I don't use either so they're both off now and my remote is only losing 1 percent a day now...

Hope this helps.

I got a new Siri remote from Apple because of battery drain on the first one, but the problem continued. the remote just lasted a few days and it was really frustrating. After turning off "Control TVs and Receivers" the battery life is "months" again. So Apple really need to fix this bug, It's probably costing them a lot of money to replace all these perfectly good remotes 😮.

In Settings > Remotes and Devices, you can choose the following:

Control TVs and Receivers: Decide whether your Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote automatically turns on your television or receiver.

I will throw in my experience with this issue. I have gone through two 4K Apple TVs and on a replacement remote for the second one. The remote always lasts 9 to 10 days. Apple Support just told me it is likely a software issue and the temporary workaround is to TURN OFF the Turn On Your TV with Your Remote setting on the Settings > Remotes and Devices menu. I’m testing that now but will take a week before I know if this fixed it. Worth a try.

I have had the same issue on one of my two new Apple TV 4K. I received a new remote and it better than the replaced one and similar to my second Apple TV 4K Siri remote.

The replaced one is at 84% after 1 week.

The 2nd one is at 89% after 6 days

The 1st one would last 2 or 3 days. I was charging it up all the time. I noticed it would go from 5% to 90% very fast compared to the 2nd one.

I do note that the remote I had issues with is one I don’t put the Apple tv4k to sleep. The remote should disconnect but I wonder.

The 2nd remote I have the Apple TV 4K go to sleep after 1 hr.

as far as I concerned are defective (Apple won’t admit there’s a issue)

Same here. I called Apple support again after the new remote they sent had the same issue and they recommended I set an appointment at the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store. They say that it might be a software issue with the Apple TV itself and they might want to rebuild/reinstall the software. They scheduled me for this Sunday afternoon. I will let you know how it goes. Hopefully it gets solved! Thanks!

Hi. I have the exact same problem with my Apple TV 4k. After a few days Siri remote would prompt me with the low battery message. I contacted support and got a new remote which left me with the exact same situation as before. I then tried it with the remote of my Apple TV 4 and it worked just fine with the battery lasting for ages. After contacting Apple again, I got a fully new Apple TV 4K. Now, after about 2 weeks or so, the battery is low again. Unfortunately, they couldn’t tell me what was wrong with the other two remotes which I would‘ve found rather interesting since it seems to be a problem with the Apple TV as such and not the remote. Will have to contact them again it seems...

Same issue, Apple Support has been great, they have sent out two new remotes, the same problem, after 2-3 days the battery needs recharged. So after talking too Apple they sent out new 4K to replace, same problem. The funny thing is I also have the 4th Generation and the remote works fine, just checked and I been using for over a week and it's still at a 100 %. I was told that both remotes are the same (not), the firmware is different on both remotes, so this is a firmware issue or Apple replaced the battery with a different battery. Why won't Apple just give me a 4th Generation remote ??
