iPhone X Lock Screen features disappear

Ever so often when I tap on the screen to wake, all of the lock screen features will disappear. Its random. I will tap on the screen, it wakes, but there is no Face ID lock in the top center, no home bar at the bottom, no quick access controls, no time, no widgets. Just a blank overlay with my Lock Screen wallpaper showing. However, the strange thing is, with no features showing I can still raise the phone to my face and unlock it. This is clearly a software glitch. Is anyone else have this problem?

I think you’re right! SIRI has taken up with HAL..our iPhones are sentient and want their freedom. So, they are driving us toward mental breakdowns with these unrelenting bugs in iOS 11. I think we may need help from The MurderBot! Haha.

— If you don’t know who the MurderBot is — read Martha Wells’ “The MurderBot Diaries”. I only mention this since you brought AI into the conversation. 😃

Back on subject, this problem IS driving me nuts! And looking through the forums on MacRumors, I still do t see any discussion of this particular problem in the posts about iOS 11 bugs.

**Also — turning off “raise to wake” did not resolve the problem. Someone had suggested this as a potential fix — I tried it and no success.

This has just begun to happen to me as well - it started yesterday, on December 16.

I have had the phone since November 3 - and no problems until yesterday.

I don't know why this software glitch suddenly has begun to exhibit. I'm on the latest iOS version 11.2.1.

The phone controls, date, camera icon, and (if playing) music control display all disappear from the lock screen (where they would ordinarily display on tap to wake or raise to wake.

Strangely, if I tap in the central area of the screen where the music player displays the Play/Pause button, the feature still works! So it would seem that the nature of the problem is that while the functionality is still there, something is causing the display items not to display (on the lock screen).

Annoying. And as others have said, the only fix seems to be to reboot the phone. After which it will work for a while - before the problem recurs.

Note: Also, I have reported this bug to Apple (today).

This is certainly not a universal issue with the iPhone X, so be sure to either notify Apple's feedback address of your issues or, if you can make it happen at will, have your device diagnosed at an Apple Store or other servicer.

That's the only way they will be able to narrow down what is occurring with the narrow subset of devices experiencing this issue.

Product Feedback - Apple

Has everyone in here formally reported this via Feedback - iPhone - Apple, and by calling your nearest Apple store to make them aware? Last time I called a rep at the Apple store, the rep claimed that she had not heard of this issue before, and so she was pretty convinced that either I was doing something wrong on my end, or it was some kind of one-off fluke. That was frustrating, because it is obviously a serious system bug, not a user error. The more people Apple hears from, the sooner this will actually be taken seriously by Apple engineering. If you haven't already, submit feedback to Apple, and call the Apple store, and let's make some noise about this.

This issue still persists on my iPhone X, but I may have narrowed it down to an issue with the raise to wake feature. If raise to wake is disabled, and I either press the side button, or tap the screen to unlock, this issue seems to be resolved. When I re-enable raise to wake, the issue returns a few times a day. For those on this thread still facing this issue often enough to notice if it indeed no longer happens, disable raise to wake (settings > display and brightness > raise to wake) and see if the issue is resolved. I am curious to see if we can narrow it down to this one errant feature. If so, I will submit a bug report against the raise to wake feature in particular, and hopefully Apple will more quickly resolve this annoying issue.

I’ve had the iPhone X for nearly 3 Weeks now and I’ve been having the same problem the last few days. It’s very annoying as sometimes I just wanna check the time and I have to unlock my phone to do so. Hopefully Apple will see this thread and resolve it soon.
