Question: Connection and Charging Issues

Since updating to the latest software, iOS 11.1.1, I'm having several issues with my iPad Pro (first generation):

- When I connect the iPad via the Smart Connector to my Logitech Create keyboard, my iPad stops charging.

- I'm having trouble charging my iPad Pro since the update, and it charges slowly, as well.

- My battery drains very quickly.

I've tried to following:

- Turning the iPad off then back on.

- Performing a hard restart.

- Cleaning out the lightening connector.

- Trying different chargers and chords.

- Deleting apps that could be draining the battery.

- Turning off location services.

- Charging in airplane mode.

None of that has worked. The iPad will only charge when not connected to the keyboard, and then, only very slowly. I had to let it charge without the keyboard through the night to reach a 100% charge.

Any help?

I have used both. The bigger issue is that when I connect my keyboard via the Smart Connector, the iPad stops charging. I then after to disconnect the keyboard, and re-plug in the charger to get it to start charging again.

I just checked the forums for this exact issue and see your post. I also am having the same issue since the newest IOS update, prior, the iPad Pro charged just fine in the Logitech Create Case (both first gen bought together). This is clearly an apple software issue, they need to be aware and issue a fix asap.

I have noted the same thing. No matter the intensity of the charger, when I am connected to the smart connector with my Logitech keyboard, and I disconnect, then reconnect - the charging stops. The charging only stops when reconnecting the keyboard to the connector. Major pain in the butt, but glad to see I am not the only one. I guess I am sane.

Tried all of above...nothing works permanently except disconnecting Logitech Create keyboard. When I do, it immediately begins charging again. Have cleaned connectors, but no debris...as I expected. Happened recently, so I assume it is related to an iOs upadate. Hope Apple pays attention to this matter as it renders my iPad useful for much shorter periods of time as I cannot charge and use it (via keyboard) simulatneously.

Try removing all accessories then turning off the iPad. Now plug in the charger and let the iPad boot without touching any buttons (connecting the power should initiate the boot). Once powered on check it is changing normally then try re-connecting the keyboard and see what happens.

This fixed a not charging issue I had.

To offer an opinion, no, I don’t think it is an issue with the Logitech Keyboard. I have been using the keyboard without issue for quite some time. This is an issue with the software. My lightning charging symbol doesn’t disappear until the moment I reconnect the smart connector. Then, I must remove the cable from the charging port and reconnect it for the charging to begin again. It is a minor issue and so I imagine Apple will either accidentally repair it or I must simply not forget to check when I reconnect my iPad to the smart connector on the Logitech keyboard

No, it is an iOs issue in my opinion. Had not happened before the last week or so. The keyboard functions perfectly, it simply will not work and charge simultaneously. I am using the keyboard as i type this with the charger attached but the iPad is not charging; however, as soon as I disconnect the keyboard the charging indidcator lights back up. Likewise, the second I reconnect the keyboard the charging light goes off. Therefore, I can use the keyboard and NOT charge at same time, or charge the iPad and then use keyboard until it is time to charge again.

I have this same issue with my iPad not charging after upgrading to iOS 11. UNeil I read this post I did not relate the issue to my keyboard, but after reading it and testing it, it was most definetly the Logitech keyboard that interrupts the charging when connected. I had suspected it had to do with YouTube, I hate to admit I watch a lot of videos there and went ever I do, I am using the keyboard as a stand for the iPad while I watch.

If I have my iPad plugged in and watching or working with it and it is not connected to the keyboard it works fine. As soon as I connect the keyboard, it stops charging. I even tested it by putting a piece of paper in the dock connector and the iPad would charge fine, the problem is I cannot use the keyboard.

This has been going on for over 2 weeks now and needs to be addressed.

How best to get Apple to acknowlege this problem and at least inform users that they are aware of it and working on solution? This is annoying; Apple pushed this product as a possible replacement for a laptop, but this problem limits my use of it as such. I despise using the on screen keyboard and may have to dig out my old laptop soon. Hate that.

Has anyone noticed if the keyboard seems to be "charging" the iPad, when the charger is not connected, as reported in this link: Three pin smart connector is receiving charge from the smart keyboard? If so, there may be some mixup in managing the connections to the Lightning port and the Smart Connector.

I'm having the same issue. It also happens whenI try to charge my Apple Pencil and the iPad is connected to Logitech case. Spoke with Logitech today after not hearing back about a warranty claim submitted for this issue. They said its definitely the latest iOS update and that they've been in communication with Apple about fixing this on an iOS update. Logitech also said they've been getting a lot of calls about this same issue.

Hopefully Apple will address this soon. It's quite frustrating.
