Connection and Charging Issues

Since updating to the latest software, iOS 11.1.1, I'm having several issues with my iPad Pro (first generation):

- When I connect the iPad via the Smart Connector to my Logitech Create keyboard, my iPad stops charging.

- I'm having trouble charging my iPad Pro since the update, and it charges slowly, as well.

- My battery drains very quickly.

I've tried to following:

- Turning the iPad off then back on.

- Performing a hard restart.

- Cleaning out the lightening connector.

- Trying different chargers and chords.

- Deleting apps that could be draining the battery.

- Turning off location services.

- Charging in airplane mode.

None of that has worked. The iPad will only charge when not connected to the keyboard, and then, only very slowly. I had to let it charge without the keyboard through the night to reach a 100% charge.

Any help?

I too am having this problem. Im not sure when I first noticed it wasnt quite going to 100% (usually, not always), but more recently its actually not charging! I have my Pro plugged in near 24/7 (perhaps weekly Ill take in my other ipad to charge overnight), the fact that I am typing this on my Pro which has been plugged in for 3 days straight and has a battery life of 85% is troubling!

I am using the cable that came with the Pro. If I unplug it and plug it back in, it says its charging, but it’ll get to mid 90s and then stop charging again.

Similar, with iPad Pro 10.5 and Slim Combo. I had both replaced at Apple store and problem exactly the same on new units.

When charging, connecting the keyboard via the smart connector, causes the iPad to stop charging. The lighting connector needs to be removed and reinserted.

I called Apple Tech support with my case number from the iPad replacement. They seemed disinterested and wouldn't escalate or log a bug.

I've logged a bug report via my Apple Dev account # 36294866

There is a thread about this issue at Forums

I'm not a huge Logitech fan following their last keyboard destroying my iPad Pro 12 screen, also a common problem they failed to acknowledge. Luckily Amazon returns is spot on! I normally prefer Zagg keyboards, but their iPad Pro 10.5 offerings are limited currently. Worth checking out though.

This is ridiculous...this has been going on so long that I must assume that Apple does not care about resolving the issue. To have to continuously unplug/replug my charger is inconvenient; as both the iPad and Logitech keyboard was purchased at an Apple store, the company should support their products. As I have said before, this is an Apple problem as I know of someone who is experiencing the same problem with their Apple keyboard. Each update seems to result in a problems for Apple products, perhaps it is time to return to PC's after many, many years (and dozens of products) of Apple loyalty. 1

Hi, I have the same issue, I bought my IPad Pro and the Logitech keyboard at the same time from the Apple store online, (October 2016) it’s been fine until about September 2017 then I could put it on charge, the symbol in the top right hand corner went green and it charged, very slowly, After talking to Apple they suggested various things, none of which helped, they said take it to an Apple store, which I did, they spent about an hour on it then gave me a new IPad ! I brought it home, loaded my software and installed it into the Logitech keyboard, then I discovered I had the same problem, after much time spent I discovered if the keyboard wasn’t connected it charged quickly and without issue (my faith in Apple products was restored, I spoke with Logitech and they said it was a ‘charging conflict’ but as the keyboard was now out of warranty basically tough!

I don’t know if replacing the keyboard would resolve the issue but at least for now I’ve found out it’s not the IPad at fault ( I hope...)

I have the same issue with my Logitech Create Keyboard for my iPad Pro 12.9”

Guessing that the more people that submit the problem, the quicker apple and Logitech will come up with a permanent fix. So here is what I am seeing when I connect.

If I am docked with the keyboard and plugin the apple charger for my iPad Pro. 12.9’. And then undock the keyboard

For storage or if is undocked for storage mode or browsing mode and then dock the keyboard to the smart connector. Both of these modes while

Charging using the lightning charger disconnects the iPad from charging. I have searched both forums and have found that I have the same problem As others have for my iPad Pro. Seems to be a Logitech firmware issue and the new apple iOS 11

Also. When the iPad disconnects from charging as explained, if I unplug the lightning cable ( only cable ) and insert again. Charging

Continues as suppose to. Seems to be a issue when changing modes while charging that is disconnecting the charging.

Note. I have firmware version for my CREATE Keyboard case / 9.00 0023. Hardware ver. 1.0

Hi Swanny! Actually it’s both parties issue as Apple and Logitech specifically worked together on this keyboard. Apple had been working on this “smart connector“ project for a while and teamed up with Logitech to make a “green keyboard” and also see if there are other ways to integrate the smart connector with other 3rd party accessories and it has been a slow reception for the smart connector. I love this keyboard and find it to be an annoyance as there is nothing else like it on the market. What concerns me is that both parties are still selling this product with the same claims and that is a problem. For my new IPad 10.5, I have been using the Zagg Rugged Messenger and the keyboard charge is 2 years (not bad at all). The versatility on it is great. I do hope that both parties come together and solve this as the Logitech Create is a fantastic keyboard.

I certainly agree that Apple & Logitech should work together to resolve this issue. However since Apple made the change(IOS update) that caused the problem, they are technically at fault. Yes, its nitpicking, but I just hate to see others unjustly pointing the finger at Logitech. I have quite a few of their products & they do a good job. So does Apple, of course. It’s certainly not easy having incredibly complex devices work perfectly all the time. It’s not like making hammers!

As for this keyboard, I do like it a lot. It works very well. I haven’t experienced any of the other issues that people have noted(breakage, etc.) and mine gets a lot of use.

So when this issue happened to me, I thought it was the keyboard, and replaced it with the slim combo. Same problem. Then I assumed it was the iPad. Well, the iPad screen was broken, and for $50, Apple replaced it last weekend. Since I really didn’t like the slim combo, and had thrown out the first Create, I bought another. Guess, what, all new hardware, and the same problem is still there. It seems hard to believe this has not been resolved after 4 months.

As mentioned earlier, this is not a Logitech problem.exclusively..I have read where other smart connect keyboards are having same or similar issues since update to 11 and above. Could Logitech fix the issue from their their end? Maybe so. That said, the problem started with the update so Apple should provide a fix. I have been waiting for months now.

I've been beta testing for some time, and this occurred immediately after the iOS 11 update. It hasn't been fixed by any of the betas that they have pushed out. It happens with every third party keyboard I've tried. It happens within seconds of connecting the keyboard, but it also happens in the middle of the night. I have now taken to turning my iPad off at night, and charging it at a dedicated station. The battery has also started draining alarmingly fast with the keyboard attached since iOS 11. Both of these issues did not exist with prior versions. Usage has been consistent.

Both issues have been reported to Apple, however, they don't respond to beta testers, so I have no idea if anyone is paying attention to the problem. It is insane that 4 months in this hasn't been fixed, and it's not just the Logitech keyboards; I've had others do the same **** thing. So I'm putting this on Apple.

Hi, I had the same issue with my IPad Pro & Logitech keyboard, Apple replaced the Pro under European Warranty ( dunno what happens about that if & when we’re no longer ’in’ Europe! ) and I had the exact same fault, ( still it was fun trying to get parked just before Xmas !) Logitech took longer then surprisingly out of the blue they replaced the keyboard ( yesterday) It’s currently on charge and behaving so I’m led to believe it’s a Logitech ‘issue’, I wish you luck resolving it, but I also found either charging the Pro away from the keyboard or putting a slither of paper across the 3 connections worked!

good luck!

I have found that if I take the lightning connector out and put it back in after connecting the keyboard it starts charging again. So when I first connect the charging stops, after reinsertion back on again. However, the bigger problem seems to be the battery charge is lasting about half as long as it did before this IOS update. Sometimes don’t ya just hate updating?
