well I pulled the trigger on a 2nd Belkin 48Gbps cable and the issue persists (No Signal, Invalid Format, flashing white snow). So is this an Apple TV issue, an Onkyo issue, or an LG issue?
First test after two new cables was a success! I started reading about exceeding 15' cable length -- weird because I saw cables in the store today that were 25' and 35' long. I went from 23' overall of 4K SIIG Woven Cables (2M from Apple TV to Onkyo TX-NR686 receiver & 5M from receiver to a Samsung 4K television) to 16' overall of 8K SIIG Ultra High Speed Cable (4' from Apple TV to receiver and 12' from receiver to Samsung TV). I need to do some more testing but it's currently 100% better than before.
Strange that I haven't seen anything on this 15 foot idea in either the Samsung or Onkyo manuals -- just web forums dealing with this Apple TV signal drop-out issue. Ugh..., it was like getting hit with lightning bolts. Anyone else out there heard about this or is it urban folklore?
Whatever.... Guess we're all delusional on this thread. Apple fan boy!
Worked perfectly on my first try! This problem has been troubling me for months ever since I've got a new TV. Thank you very much for posting this very simple solution.
It happens on SDR as well. Not DV issue.
I am thinking this is an HDCP handshake issue with the TV and the devices. Since LG is taking a very long time to release a new firmware update to the US, I am hoping this will be fixed, soon.
It happens when not in DV as well, so not isolated to DV. I notice it when Frame Rate switching is on. When off, it does not happen.
Is it me or did the latest firmware update from Apple make this issue worse?
Not an Apple issue, although it happens with the Apple TV.
I have the same issue with the Xbox One S.
I think the issue rests with LG, especially when you look at all reports about this issue.
I have exactly the same issue - cutting out, usually for about 1-2 seconds, only with Apple Music played through my LG 4k TV and attached Onkyo stereo amp. Have you figured out a fix?
It cost me $80 AUD to get this cable from Amazon.com.au and it did not work for me. I have 2 of the Belkin cables and they don't work either.
So I updated to tvOS 12. Guess what? Same problem. I have an open call with Apple so have let them know. Not holding much hope now. Probably will just return for the second time:(
Same issue for me with 4K HDR programming, mostly on Netflix that I've tried. The screen blanks for a few seconds every few minutes. My display is a Sony VPL-VW285ES.
Same projector with same problem as Roland above. I had the blanking problem solved until ios12 with an AudioQuest cable.
I opened a ticket with Apple today, and gave them this and the AVS thread to reference. Unfortunately, my ATV wouldn’t reset and update while on the phone, so I’ve sent it to Apple to diagnose.
switched from audioquest pearl to the apple store belkin hdmi. no dropout issues now.
