Apple TV 4K Random HDMI Signal Loss

Anyone have a similar issue they have solved? I originally had the issue of flicker that was solved on my LG C7 by changing motion to User set at 0, but an issue I am having is the signal from my ATV to the TV drops out randomly. Usually I can make it through a show, but a movie it will drop at least once. Audio seams to reset here and there too, but it comes right back with the little Dolby Vision logo on the TV flashing. To get the picture back I have to put the ATV to sleep and then turn it back on. If it wasn’t for the free 4K iTunes upgrades I think I would just be done with this thing. I have tried brand new cables too by the way.

I’m having the same issue as well. I have an LG 65” SJ8500 with Dolby Vision connected to the Apple TV 4K. I’ve tried turning the SIMPLINK (HDMI-CEC) settings off and on on both the Apple TV and LG and still have the same issue. Glad to find other people having this issue because I almost returned my TV thinking it was defective.

**SOLUTION FOUND**

Hopefully this will work for everyone. I bought this HDMI 2.1 cable off Amazon ( Amazon.com: ECHOGEAR 4 ft Braided HDMI 2.1 Cable - 4k Compatible With Gold Plated Connections For the Best Picture - Sup… )

ECHOGEAR 4 ft Braided HDMI 2.1 Cable - 4k Compatible With Gold Plated Connections For the Best Picture - Supports HD, 4k, and Ethernet Signals With 120fps Refresh & 48gbps Bandwidth.

It has worked with no issues and I'm no longer experience any signal loss. Doing my research I found that HDMI 2.0b can't handle 4k TV's with 120hz native refresh along with Dolby Vision; too much bandwidth. Any HDMI 2.1 cable should work but if you are buying off Amazon, PLEASE read the reviews and descriptions first. There are some companies claiming their cable is HDMI 2.1 compatible and it isn't. The Echogear has worked for me with no problems for over a week. I'm running an LG 65" 8500 series TV with Dolby Vision.

I have an encouraging update for owners of the LG OLED TV's. (B7 & C7). This morning I received the 4.70.36 WebOS update. Since receiving this update I have not had a single lost signal issue. I've been running the TV all day and now into the evening and its been working flawlessly with my Apple TV. Before this update I would have several lost signal events in just a few hours. I am sticking with the Apple recommended and supported Belkin HDMI 2.1 cable that supports 4K and up to 48Gbps.

LG has had this update out for almost a month now but they are pushing it out to smaller groups over time so I guess today was my turn.

Hope this info helps other LG OLED TV owners.

I too am suffering from this issue, glad I found this forum and it's not just me. I am using an Apple TV 4K, AmazonBasics High-Speed HDMI Cable, 10 Feet, 18gbps, LG OLED OLED65B7P with the latest update 4.70.36 WebOS. Even after the WebOS update last night I experience the blackout twice this morning, hoping it won't happen again. Also, I notice the blackouts more often while using Sling TV, I also use DirectTV Now, Netflix and Amazon Prime, but I've only had it happen a few times in these. I will be keeping an eye out for the ECHOGEAR 4 ft Braided HDMI 2.1 cables, hoping my cables are the only issue now and this is the fix.

I updated my LG OLED B7 and also am running the most recent TVOS software but am still having the same issue with the random single loss, where the ATV4k is on but the single drops and the screen goes black. Seems to happen within 5-10 minutes after Turing on the ATV4K. I am using a HDMI 2.0 cable 18gbs, the second one im trying with the same issue. Not sure if upgrading to a 2.1 cable or "Ultra High Speed HDMI" cable thats rated for 48gbs. Would anyone else recommend this? I am using 4k at 60hrz dolby vision. Maybe the 2.0 hdmi cable cant handle the bandwidth?

I have not found a solution to this problem. I think the problem is the Apple TV 4K software. I experience signal loss several times each day. NOTE: You do not need to get up and unplug the AppleTV power or HDMI to reset the unit. Instead, use your remote control.

SLEEP: Press the Menu Button and TV/Home button on the remote together. This puts the AppleTV to sleep. Press the Menu Button to restart. (These buttons are side-by-side).

would not be surprised if it was the software, but also would not be surprised if it was the 2.0 cable not being able to continually handle the 4k dolby vision at 60hz single either. Hard to say. Some people report that they are using the belkin cable that apple says to get, and they still have problems. So who knows. But it is annoying and something that apple obviously needs to address. I got off the phone with a "apple TV4k specialist" today and he says, its probably the cable. And if that is true its total BS because there are hardly ANY 2.1 HDMI cables on the market right now. ive soured the Internet and have found only 2, TWO!! thats it! the overpriced Belkin one that the apple rep told me to get and Echogear..... so who knows what the problem is. But I think its safe to say its an ATV4K and or cable issue and not our TV sets. Very frustrating. Apple has not had a good year.

At first it did appear the LG update fixed the signal loss issue for me but it did not. I can say the issue seems a bit different now then it was but it still drops out. Now when I get the dreaded signal loss there appears to be some further attempts by the TV and ATV to re-establish connection but it still fails. I'm not sure if this is then really just a cable issue or more a handshake issue between the TV and ATV (which could still be a cable issue in the end).

I have ATV 4K, LG C7 TV. Everything was working perfectly for about a month, but now I am experiencing same random HDMI signal loss issue. It tends to be intermittent, but I have noticed it happening more frequently this past week. It is very frustrating. I'm not convinced that it has to do with HDMI cables as it was running perfectly for past month using same cables (which are brand new: Amazon Basic). Perhaps it can be fixed with a software update?

I have the same setup also except I have a B7.... But it seems to be 100% an ATV4K issue. I was running the last generation Apple TV on this setup for months without any issue. First week I get the Apple TV 4K I get these "no dingle" drop outs, and have to unplug or restart the **** thing to get it back. Mild announces to be sure, but it still should not be happening. And it looks like its not just relegated to LG OLED's as others have complained about this issue with other brands.

I called the so Called" geniuses" over at apple and the basically say just to get the HDMI 2.1 cable. I haven't yet but it doenst seem to be a cable issue as people have ALSO complained about similar issues with the Belkin 2.1 HDMI cable that apple sells and says that it supports "Dolbby Vision". Apple better get their heads in the game here!

POTENTIAL SOLUTION. OK I think I fixed the issue, at least for the time being. I did a factory "reset and update" and set-up my ATV again. Although my TVOS was already up-to-date prior to doing this, it did download an update prior to restarting, which was a bit strange. Realize that it is not ideal to set up and install your apps all over again, but this is typically what Apple will ask you to do as the first step. Suspect there might be some software issue/bug that has not yet been identified or that may have been introduced in the recent software update. We shall see...

Same issue with my LGC7. Spoke with Apple last night and they suggested it was a cable issue, but they offered to replace my Apple TV with a “remanufactured” replacement.

It is the opinion of the group that I will likely experience the same issues with a different Apple TV box? I don’t want to go through the time and frustration if the problem will likely persist...

Its an Apple TV4K issue. I didn't have any issues with the " lost signal" problem with my last gen ATV so it certainly seems to be an ATV4K issue. I started experiencing this "lost signal" problem the DAY I got it and have been frustrated baby it ever since. I too have called Apple support about it and tehy jsut say " uhh, derrrr, go buy our 30$ HDMI cable, that'll "probably " work? Apple better get a fix for this!

I appreciate the help and advice. I got a new tv within a few days of getting the 4K Apple TV, so I don’t know whether the tv, the HDMI, or the Apple TV is the problem (the same HDMI cable was connected to the previous gen Apple TV and I never had any issues, and I didn’t notice a problem with the Apple TV 4K before upgrading to a 4K set, but it had only been a day or two before I switched) and am trying to save myself a lot of troubleshooting time.

At least now I know that replacing the Apple TV won’t solve the problem...
