Reset my Apple TV 4K out of frustration and have it hooked up to the HDMI arc port. So far, so good.
First test after two new cables was a success! I started reading about exceeding 15' cable length -- weird because I saw cables in the store today that were 25' and 35' long. I went from 23' overall of 4K SIIG Woven Cables (2M from Apple TV to Onkyo TX-NR686 receiver & 5M from receiver to a Samsung 4K television) to 16' overall of 8K SIIG Ultra High Speed Cable (4' from Apple TV to receiver and 12' from receiver to Samsung TV). I need to do some more testing but it's currently 100% better than before.
Strange that I haven't seen anything on this 15 foot idea in either the Samsung or Onkyo manuals -- just web forums dealing with this Apple TV signal drop-out issue. Ugh..., it was like getting hit with lightning bolts. Anyone else out there heard about this or is it urban folklore?
Hi Gilby86, Just wondering what sort of cable length you have between your Apple 4K TV and Sony 850E? Are you using a a/v receiver or just going direct between Apple TV and Sony?
It seemed like my system was getting hit by small lightning bolts for both audio and video. What worked for my system was changing from 2M and 5M 4K cables between the three components to 4' and 12' 8K cables (my working system now has shorter and faster cables -- also note that my system is not currently 4K). I've read but have not confirmed that 15' of cable is a limiting factor. For me the 15' of cable length seems true but I'm trying to confirm it.
Well I just bought an Nvidia Shield to try out bitstreaming TrueHD Atmos and it does work nicely with Plex and MrMC. Unfortunately, the **** random signal loss (display goes black for a second, audio persists) still occurred while the resolution of the Shield was set to 2160p using Plex. MrMC will auto-adjust the system resolution according to the resolution of the video file (which happened to be Game of Thrones in 1080p with TrueHD Atmos). Alas, the signal did not drop while using MrMC because the system resolution dropped to 1080p. So now that I've effectively ruled out the Apple TV and my Onkyo receiver (I recently upgraded models), I suppose the culprit has to be my 2017 LG OLED65C7P.
If any of HDFury’s products do what they say they do, then yes! I just purchased their new Dr HDMI 4K which I will place between my onkyo receiver and my LG OLED. Even though I am using the Belkin cables and all the devices are 4K Dolby Vision compatible, I still get signal drops. This device is supposed to correct any and all HDMI/EDID issues. I will post my results after I have tested it for a while. For $100, it better!
I have an LG 4k Hdr, nothing fancy but the issue is only with apple tv and the way the switching of the frame rate and range is done. If you turn both off, there is no problem, but then the hdr is not working and also the movement is not smooth. I bought another new atv 4k from apple store and with the last stable release it's the same. In the Apple Store it's exactly the same, on those LG Oled screens. It's happening with all apps that require frame/range switching( BBC, My5, Netflix, All4, etc.). Good morning Apple, i'm sure your brilliant software engineers will fix this soon. In the meantime the employees have no idea about this or pretend to, and act like it's something insignifiant.
I have a Sony 850E and Apple 4K TV. Signed up for the 12.1.2 beta and have not had any hdmi picture flickering or sound problems.
tvOS 12.1.2 (16K5534a) is still the beta version. Just compared it to the newest update on my Apple TV.
Could you tell us what your TV or Projector is?
You might find this thread of interest - it indicates firmware issue on projector and also on ATV:
The beta for me also had no drops for me as well. It happened once to me the other day since the update, but no problems after that. I have been using my Apple TV 4K to watch everything possible to see if the issue comes up. Download the Public Beta of tvOS 12.2, which came out today to see if that fixes the problem. I can still return mine by February 4 if I need too. Good luck!
I don't know if your issue is quite the same as others. But - you can sign up for the Beta here: https://beta.apple.com/sp/betaprogram/
Please post your results - good or bad.
tvOS 12.1.2 came out today. Good luck!
Downloaded the Official 12.2 (16L226) update. I am crossing my fingers.
As I replied below, it clearly looks like the problem is with the Apple TV 4K itself, not cables or other components. The cutouts happen during programs where there is no frame rate switching.
I ended up replacing all my Apple TV related HDMI cables with Audioquest branded HDMI cables (Forest standard). The issue still persists. I have a Fetch TV, PS4, Switch and XBox One X connected with no such issues.
I am 100% convinced this is an Apple TV issue. Apple, please fix ASAP!
I’ve been watching these threads for months and have given up hope until apple fixes the firm ware. It is disappointing that I have bailed on atoms until the software is fixed but using the optical cable for now allows for blink free viewing.
