Apple TV 4K Random HDMI Signal Loss

Anyone have a similar issue they have solved? I originally had the issue of flicker that was solved on my LG C7 by changing motion to User set at 0, but an issue I am having is the signal from my ATV to the TV drops out randomly. Usually I can make it through a show, but a movie it will drop at least once. Audio seams to reset here and there too, but it comes right back with the little Dolby Vision logo on the TV flashing. To get the picture back I have to put the ATV to sleep and then turn it back on. If it wasn’t for the free 4K iTunes upgrades I think I would just be done with this thing. I have tried brand new cables too by the way.

**SOLUTION FOUND**

Hopefully this will work for everyone. I bought this HDMI 2.1 cable off Amazon ( Amazon.com: ECHOGEAR 4 ft Braided HDMI 2.1 Cable - 4k Compatible With Gold Plated Connections For the Best Picture - Sup… )

ECHOGEAR 4 ft Braided HDMI 2.1 Cable - 4k Compatible With Gold Plated Connections For the Best Picture - Supports HD, 4k, and Ethernet Signals With 120fps Refresh & 48gbps Bandwidth.

It has worked with no issues and I'm no longer experience any signal loss. Doing my research I found that HDMI 2.0b can't handle 4k TV's with 120hz native refresh along with Dolby Vision; too much bandwidth. Any HDMI 2.1 cable should work but if you are buying off Amazon, PLEASE read the reviews and descriptions first. There are some companies claiming their cable is HDMI 2.1 compatible and it isn't. The Echogear has worked for me with no problems for over a week. I'm running an LG 65" 8500 series TV with Dolby Vision.

Was having the same issues as you with the old HDMI 2.0 cables. Was getting singles losses all day every day. Switched to the Echogear HDMI 2.1 a few weeks ago and have had NO signal loss since switching. People are also saying they have had the same experience with the Belkin 2.1 cable that apple is hawking, but the echoer is cheaper and does the same thing. My setup up is LG 55 inch B7 OLED running DolbyVision 60 Hrz.

Apple I think does have some issues to work out here with the ATV4K though.

Like all the others on this post I have experienced picture dropouts with an Apple TV 4K and a LG C7 OLED. I found a fix that works for me (granted this fix should not have worked). I originally had the Apple TV 4k plugged into a non-ARC HDMI port on my LG C7. I had a PS4 Pro plugged into my ARC HDMI port on my LG C7. Under this scenario I experienced dropouts at the rate of almost one per day. I then moved my PS4 Pro to a non-ARC HDMI port on my LG C7. For some unexplainable reason that fixed the problem. My Apple TV now seems stable and I do not loose the picture.

Okay, I’ve scoured the internets looking for folks with similar issues with their Apple TV 4k, Dolby vision, HDR10, LGOLED b7/c7 and this super weird flickering and resetting Apple TV 4k.

Ive resorted to using the LG in built Netflix app, slingtv but I still want to watch my iTunes movies. It’s taken me forever to ‘solve’ the issue. This thread was helpful but only one thing seems to have worked.

I’ve replaced all of my HDMI cables, even through I know my old ones were supported just to get that over with and rule it out. I’ve restored my Apple TV, opted in for beta , everything!

For me, the solution was

1. Drop the Dolby vision hZ from 60 to 50.

2. I turned on the match dynamic range

3. Turner on Match frame rate

Two days so far and a wide range of content with no flickering loops or resets.

I hope some of you find this to solve your issues as well. (Now watch my issues return after I post this ) cX

Like everyone else… I had the problem for nearly a year where my Apple TV 4K would loose connection with my LG C7 Oled 65 inch and then I need to restart my Apple TV 4k. I tried a number of things like everyone else and had no luck although the problem has seemingly gotten worse since I switched to TVOS 12. I use to experience the problem every 2 to 3 days but since I switched to tvOS 12 I experience the issue about once a day. I had tested my old Amazon HDMI high speed cable using the test provided in the settings menu and it always indicated it was working fine on tvOS 11. However, on tvOS 12 it does indicate connectivity issues. Not sure if they tweaked the test in tvOS 12. So, I finally decided to go bite the bullet and try the recommended Belkin cable ( in the 2 meter version) . It has only been a few days but so far so good. I also noticed that this cable passes the HDMI cable test in tvOS 12 where my old cable did not. Moral of the story… It seems to have solved the problem. We shall see. Sidenote, make sure to run the HDMI cable test. Don’t just switch back-and-forth between 4K HDR and 4K Dolby Vision to see if the cable shows a problem. I think there is some test result caching going on which seems to be resolved when you run the official HDMI cable test. Good luck

Hi, I posted earlier re. this issue. For me the blackouts just got worse and worse. There was a stage where I could plug the device into an old HD TV and could get the device to start operating again. But that soon stopped working too. So my ATV 4K became inoperable. I talked to Apple and had the device tested by them. It was finally replaced under warranty. The new device is working great even after upgrade to TVOS 12. I reckon there maybe a batch of ATV with a hardware fault. If you can, get yours replaced.

First test after two new cables was a success! I started reading about exceeding 15' cable length -- weird because I saw cables in the store today that were 25' and 35' long. I went from 23' overall of 4K SIIG Woven Cables (2M from Apple TV to Onkyo TX-NR686 receiver & 5M from receiver to a Samsung 4K television) to 16' overall of 8K SIIG Ultra High Speed Cable (4' from Apple TV to receiver and 12' from receiver to Samsung TV). I need to do some more testing but it's currently 100% better than before.

Strange that I haven't seen anything on this 15 foot idea in either the Samsung or Onkyo manuals -- just web forums dealing with this Apple TV signal drop-out issue. Ugh..., it was like getting hit with lightning bolts. Anyone else out there heard about this or is it urban folklore?

So I read somewhere that EM interference can sometimes cause the issues we're having. I plugged my Onkyo Receiver into its own power outlet and left the ATV and OLED on a power strip. I also gave the HDMI cables some "breathing room" instead of being all crammed together. It's been a couple days and the worst symptom I've had is just a quick black flash once a day or less. Before it was multiple signal dropouts per hour. It's worth a shot if you're helpless.

I had this problem a while ago but have not had it since. I originally was using a normal HDMI cable and using HDMI port 2, which is the ARC one, on my Sony XBR900E (65"). I then went out and purchased the high speed Belkin HDMI cable that Apple sells and used HDMI port 2. But still encountered the same issue. I then switched my Apple TV to HDMI port 3 (non ARC) and it has worked ever since. So, perhaps try NOT using your HDMI ARC port and using the high speed Belkin HDMI cable. Worked for me, and going on four months now!

Both my TV’s are LG’s running WebOS 4.7

One thing I forgot to mention is to make sure you are not running your Apple TV through an audio receiver/surround system. Even if you are using the “pass-through” setting on the receiver, it will still not work. Your receiver still has to be Dolby Vision compatiable. When I first got my Apple TV I did this, the connected it directly to the LG 8500 and still had issues.

Also check and make sure all your HDMI ports on your TV are 2.0+. I know some TV’s Do HDMI 1 & 2 as 2.0 and ports 3 & 4 as 1.4 or something else.

I agree it could be the Apple TV, but for me the Echogear solved my problems.

Update: I've been told an Apple engineer is finally going to look into the error logs that I provided them about 6 weeks ago. (I've been told this before - so I'm not holding my breath).

As a temporary solution, Apple's asked I change my video output to 4k Dolby Vision at 30hz. This has worked so far, even though navigating the menus feels like it's all in slow-mo. It's been almost a week without an incident.

Will provide an update when I hear something further.
