Apple Carplay stopped working Accord 2018

Looking for assistance:

I have a 2018 honda accord. I have been driving it for a mere 2 weeks. Apple carplay was working wonderfully for 2 weeks until yesterday. No changes to the phone, just stopped working. Now I cannot get it working. I have tried the following:

Change Cable

Change USB port

Update OS (now 11.1.1)

Reset Network settings

Disabled all restrictions

iCloud backup performed

Phone model is 7 Plus. The car recognizes the phone, works in USB mode as well as bluetooth mode. In the smartphone settings on the car itself, it has the phone as enabled. I click connect and it just says cannot connect, no smartphone device detected.

I'm really at a loss here. This should be plug and play but it is most definitely not.

Honda just called me back after I submitted a ticket on their consumer website reporting this issue. They said they are widely aware of this issue and said they are not the only car manufacture experiencing the Apple Carplay instability issue with iOS11. They are documenting the issue and are reporting to Apple about fixing this. I guess now it's really up to Apple to fix it since everything seemed to be fine before iOS11 according to Honda.

prchristy, I just called the HondaLink number like you suggested, decided not worth my time going to the dealer for the battery cable reset. Of course I was told the same thing about no permanent fix at this time. When the CarPlay problem comes back, I may opt for the battery reset if my settings are somehow saved with that fix. The factory data reset wipes out all your settings, including navigation. Major frustration.

Last week I attended a Honda 101 class that the dealership in Manchester CT offers. You get a free oil change for attending. The service manager claimed to know nothing about this issue and disregarded the tech bulletin that was posted from Honda on this website which I showed him.. He was pompous and arrogant and did not want to hear about any other issues that customers brought up, as well. All we got was the typical blaming the customer replies. He did acknowledge that my Display unit should not be freezing as it did twice but did not say bring it in and we will change it. Apparently that was a big issue om some earlier models.

I don't know what to make of this issue. I purchased my 2018 Honda Accord in January. Everything was working fine for the first 3 weeks. Then all of a sudden I began experiencing issues with Apple CarPlay right after signing up for the 3 month trial HondaLink subscription. I don't know if there's a connection, but that's when I began experiencing Apple CarPlay issues. All of sudden Siri no longer displayed like it does on my iPhone 8 Plus. It displayed in vocabulary. It also lost it's volume. Then I lost the entire Apple CarPlay Interface. Then I lost functionality of both USB ports. All this was/is very frustrating! The only thing I could think of that might have caused this problem was HondaLink. So, I cancelled my free 3 month trial subscription hoping this would resolve this issue. Now I can't connect with Bluetooth. So, I went online and read these comments hoping to find a solution. I followed the instructions as prescribed by jll77450. After following these instructions I went to my car the next morning hoping this would solve the issue. I hooked my iPhone to the USB port and Apple CarPlay appeared. I'm so thrilled! I'm still having trouble connecting to Bluetooth when I disconnect from the USB port. For now it's ok because I prefer to use Siri and to see it displayed the way it originally did. Although, Bluetooth is an included function that should still work and it's not. I liked the HondaLink features, but I'm afraid if I resubscribe I might lose Apple CarPlay since that is where this unpleasant adventure began. It's going to cost me as well. Of course, I've lost my 3 month trial HondaLink subscription trying to resolve this issue. This episode shouldn't have happened. Honda and or Apple must resolve this issues for customers. It's nonsense.

Make sure you complain in some fashion, call your dealer/file a ticket with Honda owners website, call the HondaLink toll free number, etc. to make sure Honda knows how big the problem is. Sounds like most folks have not made Honda aware. Seems to be a Honda issue to me rather than Apple. My dealer said something about Honda using an older version of iOS. I haven't heard of other car manufacturers having big CarPlay issues like Honda.

I've had the same issues since I bought the car (2018 Accord). Did the data reset through the infotainment system. Everything works fine, but occasionally the carplay stops working with Spotify. Is this a issue for anyone else? it looks like the music will stop playing and I would have to pause the music and wait few seconds and hit play again for the sound to come back. Sometimes I would have to unplug the wire and replug (very dangerous while driving) This happens every 10-15 min, sometimes it doesn't happen for longer periods of time or it will happen every 5 min, very random. I've been searching the web for any similar issues, but couldn't really find any. Are these issues related? is the carplay not working properly and spotify glitching out related. Can anyone help?

I am having the same problem with Apple car play. I just updated iOS to the latest that dropped today. I hope it fixes it. But in the meantime. I have reset the factory settings... now my satellite radio does not show the channel Id’s and logos for all the channels like it did before. Has anyone else experienced this? Do you know how to get the logos to reappear?

the following worked for me

1) deleted "my car" from carplay and reinstalled

2) deleted my Iphone and reinstalled it

3) cleared "history and website data" from safari in my iphone

4) did a hard reset to my iphone

5) connected the iphone to the car before I started the car

6) started the car and wait.

7) responded to some messages (e.g., enable your phone...)

9) for now "carplay" is working

I’m having the same issue except, I have a 2018 Honda CR-V that I’ve had now for 5 days and last night, plugging it in it would show that no device is connected when it clearly was. I finally pulled over after trying a bunch of things and put the car in Park and shut off the engine and restarted the car. It worked for the drive at the time. Well after finishing dinner, I get back into the car and same problem happens and this time the music was coming through the speakers but the CarPlay screen wasn’t showing though the CarPlay logo was showing on the phone. So I decided to hard restart my phone and then CarPlay screen came on. Sounds like it’s not just an accord issue it’s a fleet wide issue. Kind of saddening knowing that the only reason I chose the Honda was because of the CarPlay feature that the Mazda CX-5 doesn’t offer, otherwise I would have forgone the CarPlay and gotten the CX5 if I had known that after 5 days of ownership I was going to be running into issues with the CarPlay software.

In my 2018 Honda Fit EX, I have CarPlay.

I had this happen tonight.

I removed my iPhone from my Fit's settings.

Then I removed Honda from CarPlay settings on the iPhone.

My system allows me to change the background colors.

Whenever I do, the whole headunit has to restart.

You should try this, sit, wait until GPS and all that comes back.

I did not need to do a factory reset on my Fit.

Then plug your iPhone in. Mine allowed me to add my iPhone and now I'm right as rain, until next time.

When you reset, you will lose the satellite radio icons temporarily. They

do come back eventually. Hoping new iOS update fixes problem but not

holding my breath.

I just wanted to say that I stumbled upon the exact same solution by accident after just reading the original post and marked solution. Change the background, the unit will do a restart, and then suddenly CarPlay works again, like magic. I have no idea how I stumbled upon this as well :-) I’m just glad I did!
