macOS 10.13.2 failed to install and now won't show in App Store at all

I tried this morning to install macOS 10.13.2 multiple times. Each time, it would appear to be installing, but afterward when I signed in I would receive a message indicating that some updates could not be installed. (It was the only update showing and the only one I chose to install.)

I checked my version of macOS, and it still showed 10.13.1, so I tried again. Same thing happened. Tried a third time. Same thing.

Now, however, the 10.13.2 update won't show up in the App Store at all. It says that no updates are available. My "About This Mac" still shows 10.13.1.

Any idea how to get 10.13.2 to show up in the App Store again and how to get it to install successfully (or maybe view logs about what might be happening)?

I had this problem too since the day it got released, until now. What made it work for me was to disable F-Secure XFence (not just learning mode) and also in System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> Firewall disable Stealth Mode and enable both of the "Automically allow..." options. I know some of these are obvious, and some of them were already tried before, but this time I went all-in unprotected so that none of these would possibly interfere with the update.

This looks like an older thread, but I thought I would share what worked for me hoping it may possibly help someone else having this issue. I too tried multiple installs of 10.13.2 and all failed. Not knowing the cause of the failure, I searched and found this thread. I read them all. I use BitDefender on my Macbook Pro. I went in under

Security ---> Privacy and disabled my firewall with the admin password. I ran the update which took about 25 minutes to complete, and when it was finished and I logged back in, it showed updated to 10.13.2. I seems the firewall, at least on my machine, was the issue. I hope that helps somebody! 🙂

Looks like SoftRAID is the culprit.

Apple is limiting the installer, apparently intentionally.

There are instructions on the [SoftRaid] forum how to upgrade to High Sierra. I think 10.13.2 needs the same, with cloning to an Apple volume.

We have heard from Apple that their plan is to prevent booting from RAID volumes, including their own, over time.

Well that's a multi-level bummer.

Looks like you need to clone your RAID volume to a regular volume, boot it, update it, then clone it back to your RAID volume. I have ZERO interest in doing this, I'm going to convert back to an AppleRAID and see if that solves the problem.

Poor SoftRAID. They used to get their drivers included on apple's installer disks, it was as stable and integrated as the os itself. Now you get nothing but bugs trying to use it. I wish I had known this before I bought two 500 GB SSD's for this Mac mini.

Glad some people are getting there... but no Softraid here.

Company computer, so the “weird stuff” is: AirWatch, Endpoint Protector and BitDefender (which has been very angry since converting to APFS).

Any anti-virus/security software installed will likely cause problems with updates. Try updating in Safe Mode.

Note: this is not the same as the update package linked elsewhere in this thread (which is the same as what you get through the app store). It is a larger download.

I notice now that the combo update has also been linked. But just be aware there are two different 10.13.2 update packages you can download, and you want the combo (larger) one.

Well I figured out a definitive answer to why I was having this problem. Apple has officially dropped support for installing OS X on an AppleRAID volume. So I can't run the updates and I can't run the full installer. This really ***** for me because I just put two brand new 500 GB SSD drives in my Mac mini, to have a super fast throughput 1 TB volume. I kind of need a single large volume, and easily could have purchased one instead of two 500's, if there were any reason AT ALL to think apple would random drop one of their own core technologies.

I don't know what the **** apple is doing with their computers these days but they seem to be ******* everything up and/or abandoning most of the lines for no particularly reason.

So now, for every update, big and 0.0.1 sized alike, I'm going to have to image my whole system to an external, upgrade it, then restore back. And as a bonus feature, this will cause my time machine to use up WAY more space on my backup drive, meaning my backup history won't be nearly as long.

I normally laugh at all those "Apple is a phone company/the Mac is dead/The sky is falling" types, and have for years now. But it's starting to feel like that's not such a crazy claim to make.
