macOS 10.13.2 failed to install and now won't show in App Store at all

I tried this morning to install macOS 10.13.2 multiple times. Each time, it would appear to be installing, but afterward when I signed in I would receive a message indicating that some updates could not be installed. (It was the only update showing and the only one I chose to install.)

I checked my version of macOS, and it still showed 10.13.1, so I tried again. Same thing happened. Tried a third time. Same thing.

Now, however, the 10.13.2 update won't show up in the App Store at all. It says that no updates are available. My "About This Mac" still shows 10.13.1.

Any idea how to get 10.13.2 to show up in the App Store again and how to get it to install successfully (or maybe view logs about what might be happening)?

I'm also failing to install the 10.3.2 update on one of my Macs, whether via App Store or installing a downloaded update package, however the update keeps showing up for me. A notification says "Updates Not Installed ... some updates could not be installed automatically." Clicking the details button goes to "Some updates were not installed automatically. Click 'Install' to update them now." in App Store. Lather, rinse, repeat, same result.

Clearing out App Store caches did no good.

Appears to be same problem as Can't update to macos 10.13.1.

I've just faced the same issue and I'm still not done with the Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.2 update!

There is an easy hack...

After rebooting (out of the Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.2. update drive) into your normal Mac Drive (10.13.1) on App Store Updates it will show only the latest iTunes 12.7.2. but no sign of the update 10.13.2, right?

Then go to featured, search for Mac OS High Sierra download and select download! Just before downloading it, it will tell you that you're already on a Mac OS High Sierra and that you should update it through the updates of App Store, then just go back and refresh the updates, it will suddenly appears and can start the all update process again!

Good luck with this update, it still gives me headaches and still trying to find a way around it, as it does not install... At the moment I'm fighting with DiskWarrior Recovery maker 1.1. which is not recognizing SSD drives formatted in APFS, as I am trying to rebuild/repair the SSD to restart again the Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.2 update!

After what you've gone through, if you've managed to update it completely, please let me know how!?!?!

Thanks...

I had to install on another drive, boot off that, and then install onto the failing volume. During that installation, dialog boxes complained about old kernel extensions and aimed me at what to look for in installation logs.

I don't think so. From the sounds of it, software raid and macOS are basically done.

I just converted to an AppleRAID and I still cannot run the update. Apparently you cannot run Mac OS updaters on RAID volumes any more. Now I really wish I had purchased a single 1 TB drives instead of a pair of 500s. What the **** Apple? Please don't turn your computers into appliances. It works for phones and tablets but literally nobody wants that for their computers.

Hi Randal,

My gosh still with this issue...

Let me be a little bit more concise with the answer I gave you sometimes ago...

macOS High Sierra upgrade has created a lot of issues, but it can be resolved with the update, however for some reasons downloading it from Apple Store Updates has been a disaster for many of us... either couldn't install and when we eventually managed to install it, it created a lot of issues, such a slow system, crash finder, system freeze, spotlight issues... Luckily there is a way around it, try this:

  • Reboot with the option key and get out of the macOS install drive and restart with your normal Mac drive
  • Check on App Store update if the 10.13.2 update has been installed
  • If not and the update is not present on the available update download then download the combo update 10.13.2
  • 10.13.2 Combo Update
  • Make sure you have a full backup, ideally time machine, as if there is anything going wrong it is the safest way to reinstall it from the recovery!
  • Update

Let me know if it did the trick and more importantly, in a later stage if you have managed to find a way around this issue, as it seems that there are a high volume of issue with the 10.13.2 update, and it would be important to inform other users of a way to resolve it! Otherwise you can try to give us more information with:

Etrecheck:

Otherwise download Etrecheck, it is a system reporting app, widely used on Apple Communities forum, it gives a snapshot of the system and very often help to pinpoint issues. You can past the report here in and we'll see what we can find... Do not worry, it is perfectly safe and does not record any personal or sensitive data from your computer...

Good luck again 😎

I read carefully, the instructions make no sense.

First you want me to boot into recovery, and reinstall, in my case mountain lion over my high sierra install. That won't work, you can't do that.

Then you want me to go into that newly installed OS, and download high sierra from the App Store... so why didn't I just go directly to the App Store to do that, why bother with the internet recovery step?

Then you want me to install that newly downloaded high sierra, but that won't work. High Sierra will not install on an AppleRAID volume.

"When you have installed HighSierra but it will not run, in the RecoveryPartition it will install HighSierra again."

I'm not entirely sure what this means, no one here is having the issue of High Sierra, not running, only not installing. A recovery partition for High Sierra won't change the fact that High Sierra won't install on an AppleRAID volume
