macOS 10.13.2 failed to install and now won't show in App Store at all

I tried this morning to install macOS 10.13.2 multiple times. Each time, it would appear to be installing, but afterward when I signed in I would receive a message indicating that some updates could not be installed. (It was the only update showing and the only one I chose to install.)

I checked my version of macOS, and it still showed 10.13.1, so I tried again. Same thing happened. Tried a third time. Same thing.

Now, however, the 10.13.2 update won't show up in the App Store at all. It says that no updates are available. My "About This Mac" still shows 10.13.1.

Any idea how to get 10.13.2 to show up in the App Store again and how to get it to install successfully (or maybe view logs about what might be happening)?

I still have the issue too. Any chance you have an encrypted hard disk (FileVault)?

I have a fresh install of 10.13.

I've tried three times to install the Combo 10.13.2 update. Failed every time with ".. some updates didn't install".

Well I didn't think it was going to work, but because people suggested it, I tried again in Safe Mode. Still failed. I guess I'm on 10.13.1 forever now.

FWIW, I said "most likely". That doesn't exclude all other causes. FWIW, the High Sierra installer in the App Store is 10.13.2 so you don't need to run the Combo "right after".

Not much for me to add. All I know is I've installed High Sierra on four different Macs without incident.

And there is the catch22. NOT using APFS causes all these problems with the software updaters. But USING APFS causes all sorts of other compatibility problems. You really can't win.
