CD burning issues - unknown error 0x80004005

I have been trying to burn cds and about 2 minutes or less in, it stops and ejects the cd, saying unknown error 0x80004005. I tried slowing the burning speed down but no joy. Also, when I have been trying to print the song lists, it seems like it will print the wrong playlists as well. Any suggestions? I have a Dell laptop that is about 1 year old.

Yes, there would appear to be an issue burning from iTunes 12.7.2.x for Windows.

A workaround is to uninstall iTunes then download and install one of the following as appropriate:

Which version of iTunes is installed now? iTunes 12.7.3.46 ought to be able to burn CDs properly. See the second box in Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for detailed tear down and rebuild advice if you're already using that version, otherwise try upgrading normally first. Download from https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ as some country specific pages are still serving 12.7.2, and in some cases claim to be delivering 12.7.1 in error.

I gave up trying to wait for a resolution to itunes making a correction to this issue. I got a hint from another post the best way like you is to go to real player or windows media player and burn from there which I did with no problem. Itunes is to busy taking care of all the people who purchased ipods and other electronics. Wait until next upgrade and by then they should have it resolved (crossing my fingers).

So many others are having the same issue like you and I. I lost at least 10 cds myself. I heard that if you burn it at 2x speed it will burn ok but why risk more cds? And the time to burn it is real slow. Best tip I received so far is to use Windows Media Player and burn in there. Worked like a champ. I'll wait until they come out with an update on fixing it and a few have said that itunes is more than aware of it. They are busy right now because of all the Christmas gadgets people just got and dealing with their issues. If you can't do it in WMP I'd suggest you reinstall an older version of itunes.

I have already posted regarding this isue but, as of yet, there have been no developments of even a response from itunes. My system was perfectly fine until I ran the last bloody update and now won't burn discs from itunes. If I wish to do this, I have to export the playlist to Real Player and burn it that way (which works perfectly). I have spoken to itunes on several occasions but it is like talking to a brick wall ("not our fault" etc). I spent most of the Sunday and time later in te week following the update on the phone to them but they could not repair it. Instead, some guy jumped onto my system and advised me to follow his instructions - which (like a clown) I did and consequently lost all my playlists. He had advised to go back to an earlier version of itunes and guess what - I could burn cd's perfectly. However, I managed to recover my playlists etc and have to put up with this situation (back to using Real Player). Come on itunes, sort this out - it REALLY is down to you guys messing around and updating for the worse (not the better). Happy New Year!

I am beyond furious right now; even though probably hundreds of others have called Support and complained, I will as well. I have an HP Laptop running on Windows 10 and unfortunately just updated today to the newest version because the pop up box has been prompting me to for awhile. After spending over $40 on iTunes and creating playlists to burn so I have tunes for an upcoming long weekend trip, I've wasted 6-7 blank discs and found that several others have this problem, too; Apple is supposedly aware and we're just supposed to "sit tight" until they release an update that rectifies the snag. Even though this is absolute garbage, I do want to pass along that someone either or this or another thread shared a temporary solution....change your burn speed setting to "2x" and it should work. It did for me! So thank you to whoever figured this out and I just wanted to spread the word until iTunes gets this fixed!

Well, Harold I can help some with this. Have read many other answers on this sore subject. One of the ones that made it really easy was using Windows Media Player. You can import all your music there. Depending on how many files you have like me I had over 400 to import. It took maybe 10-12 minutes and that will depend on the speed of your computer. I had absolutely no issues doing this and I thought that the music actually played better. Could be me. No issues burning either after creating a playlist. I thought this was the best and quickest way and not waiting for itunes to fix this as I lost several CD's trying to burn them different ways. I also will continue doing it this way as well. Once you have everything there it's a piece of cake and any new music it's much quicker to import it. Good luck if you use this method.

I also have the same issue and also used several discs in the process of trying to correct it! Spoke with Apple Support (about 10 times), who weren't aware of the problem but suggested that the update could be to do with copyright issues!!!

The guy I spoke to backed up to a previous version of itunes and I was able to burn a disc. However, I lost all my playlists etc and was then unable to sync my iphone. I decided that I would rather have all my music and playlists as I wanted them so had to go back to the current version (no cd burning again). This is a mess and itunes should sort this asap. We need an urgent solution to the problem but as the guys at itunes don't appear to pay any attention to these posts - I won't hold my breath! 😟

Nothing to do with itunes

What formats are you burning? This post suggests the issue might only affect iTunes Store purchases: Since the last update 12.7.2 my itunes will not burn from downloads b will burn from a prerecorutded CD. Other threads have mention that some tracks are burnt before the failure, so an intermittent issue that depends on format would make sense. I've also seen one indicating issues with CD Text information.
