iPhone X Yahoo! email does not update

This just started happening. I get a good amount of emails throughout the day in my Yahoo mail box and now it is saying no new messages. When I go to a desktop, there clearly are new messages. I have tried different WIFI accounts, cell data, restarted the device, hard closed the mail app and uninstalled and reinstalled the email account. When I reinstalled it, it updated to show current emails, but will not update again.

This is what yahoo account provides..

Ways to securely access Yahoo Mail

By default, we block access to Yahoo Mail from outdated apps that could leave your account vulnerable. If we sent you an email indicating that your app is using outdated security protocols or you're unable to log in from an older app, you still have several options available to you.

Secure options to access Yahoo Mail

Give temporary access to outdated third-party apps

While you switch apps or update your app, you can give the old app temporary access. Just remember, this is not intended for permanent access and you'll want to turn it off afterwards.
  1. Sign in to Yahoo Mail.
  2. Go to your "Account security" settings.
  3. Turn on Allow apps that use less secure sign in.

Once the feature is turned on, you'll get regular alerts reminding you to turn it off. To do so, just follow the steps above and turn off "Allow apps that use less secure sign in."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------

I also remarked that I have 3 yahoo accounts- the oldest one done years ago does not upgrade and in the internal look of it differs from newer ones that upgrade. I suspect here that various solutions works differently based upon that. I have used the Allow apps that use less secure sign in.... but I am not 100% satisfied...

IS YAHOO TRYING TO GET MORE PEOPLE PAY FOR THEIR ACCOUNT OR APP?

For whatever it's worth, I got Yahoo! email to update on my iPhone X after:

  • I turned off Yahoo Account Key
  • I turned on the 'allow less secure whatever' setting on Yahoo account
  • I quit the IOS mail app
  • I deleted the account from IOS
  • I manually rebooted the phone
  • I re-added the Yahoo account (using the Yahoo account choice, not manual add)
  • I turned Yahoo Account Key back on

I have not given it a day yet, as others have experienced the '24 hour and gone' phenomenon, but I'm able to get emails to my Yahoo account through mail app right now, fetching automatically with badge updates. It's worth noting that my old iPhone 6 is working fine for Yahoo mail through this whole ordeal, and also worth noting that just deleting the account and adding back (even with quits and reboots) did nothing for me, so I suspect that the Yahoo settings is ultimately what did it. The only thing I did not test was the last step, but so far, turning account key back on hasn't stopped emails from coming in. Good luck to you. I'm hoping that this fix sticks.

I had the same issue. Tried removing my account and putting it back, but with no success because I was using Apples default Yahoo parameters.

Here is what worked for me:

  1. Delete your Yahoo account
  2. Add a mail account, but choose "Other" as the type, rather than "Yahoo"
  3. Enter these settings for the mail server:

Incoming Server:

  • imap.mail.yahoo.com
  • Enter your username (email) and password

Outgoing Server:

  • smtp.mail.yahoo.com
  • Enter your username (email) and password

Once I did that, my mails were synced correctly. I am guessing that the default Yahoo parameters used by Apple are not the most efficient ones.

Hope this works for you too.

Cheers!

Your error seems to show that the server information is correct, but the login is wrong.

I tried to check and there is nothing to do to enable IMAP for Yahoo, so that doesn't seem to be the issue.

Here are some things you could try:

  • Make sure IMAP is selected rather than POP when entering the mail server information.
  • Check your login information on the Yahoo website, just to be sure login is correct and account isn't blocked.
  • Enter your full email for the login username of the mail server (entering just the username won't work).

Other than that, not sure what could be causing the issue.

Don't recall giving any instructions but try this. I have removed yahoo account and add it manually using IMAP. Below are incoming and outgoing email settings.

Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server

  • Server - imap.mail.yahoo.com
  • Port - 993
  • Requires SSL - Yes

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server

  • Server - smtp.mail.yahoo.com
  • Port - 465 or 587
  • Requires SSL - Yes
  • Requires authentication - Yes

Haven't had any issue for past 4 days and counting.

Let me know how is that working for you.

I believe this is due to yahoo wanting to force people to use their APP, one needs to deactivate some security setting on one's yahoo account, which enables a "less secured" (says Yahoo) connection than via their app. Once done.. seems to work.. for how long? I have one yahoo account that still keeps feeding okay while the other does not. However I am still unhappy because the IPhone shows that account as "yahoo!" instead of account name... grr..

Hey Guys,

One of the technicians helped me to solve the problem, here is what you need to do:

Settings—->Accounts &password——>

choose yahoo mail——>choose account——>choose Outgoing server SMTP——>Choose Add Server——>host Name: smtp.mail.yahoo.com, and then your email address and your emails password, press SAVE, then you will receive email on time !

IT WORKED!
