iPhone X Yahoo! email does not update

This just started happening. I get a good amount of emails throughout the day in my Yahoo mail box and now it is saying no new messages. When I go to a desktop, there clearly are new messages. I have tried different WIFI accounts, cell data, restarted the device, hard closed the mail app and uninstalled and reinstalled the email account. When I reinstalled it, it updated to show current emails, but will not update again.

This worked for me. Thank you. I had to go to yahoo mail in my web browser, pull up my security settings, and enable 'Allow apps that use less secure sign in.' After this I was able to re-add my yahoo account to my Apple mail app.

Just to let you people inform that I have iPhone 5 with IOS 10.3.2 and I am having this same issue with my yahoo mail for about a week. May be after some update (i just update app's. Haven't updated IOS for long). Nothing worked so i have installed Yahoo Mail app which is working great. So I guess its not about iPhone X but some issue with the mail app.

Are you telling me that Yahoo’s server would only not work on my iPhone X? Doesn’t make sense to me that my iPhone 6 and iPad are receiving yahoo emails just fine but my iPhone X aren’t.

Yahoo has hundreds of servers in their server farm. The manage to get out of sync with each other on a regular basis. You have no control over which server any given device is communicating with. If a device manages to hit a borked server, it will reject your credentials. Sometimes deleting and re-adding the account will manage to hit a 'good' server instead of a bad one.

The fix (pasted below) from someone else worked for a day then quit updating the next day. Delete the y’all acct under settings and then close out all apps. Might even be good idea to restart phone. Then go back in and add the yahoo acct and make sure the server has this info

Settings—->Accounts &password——>

choose yahoo mail——>choose account——>choose Outgoing server SMTP——>Choose Add Server——>host Name: smtp.mail.yahoo.com, and then your email address and your emails password, press SAVE,

I spoke w someone from Apple Watch hi said is probably a software glitch or issue. Next time an update comes down, instead up updating via WiFi, plus phone into computer and update via iTunes. Apparently that method is better than wifi

Your error seems to show that the server information is correct, but the login is wrong.

I tried to check and there is nothing to do to enable IMAP for Yahoo, so that doesn't seem to be the issue.

Here are some things you could try:

  • Make sure IMAP is selected rather than POP when entering the mail server information.
  • Check your login information on the Yahoo website, just to be sure login is correct and account isn't blocked.
  • Enter your full email for the login username of the mail server (entering just the username won't work).

Other than that, not sure what could be causing the issue.

Most times, it's either the server settings are not correct, the push or fetch setting isn't enabled, or the user has their email account syncing things like calendar, contacts, etc on top of another app. This causes conflict and prevents proper use and/or prevents the sending & receiving of email..

I used to have my Yahoo on mine but the ESP settings kept changing. It became too high maintenance to adjust my Yahoo settings to work properly, plus there were large time periods in which their servers were down. I just use my gmail addresses and iCloud now - I need something reliable and those two, I can depend on :)

Hi druyanava,

Thank you for sharing. I know iOS typically requires SSL to be a part of an ESP's credentials to work properly, as this layer enhances security so I'm glad you found another way to handle.

The Yahoo servers are once again down however or erratic. I just found out late yesterday after speaking to a friend.

Downrightnow's site showed outage but no expectation of full restore time. After talking with others, it appears Yahoo's servers went down on or around the 15th. However, some are getting email through erratically, and the site showed various peaks at certain times.

This happened with yahoo/att.net/BellSouth not long ago and went on for a while.

This was another reason, I transitioned to gmail. I like to check my Yahoo every so often however to see if any email may have still gotten there. But, no luck yesterday on any of my devices, and I have OS, iOS, Windows and Android platforms I utilize for work & personal daily. I've not checked latest stat today, so we shall see...

I have the same issue with my new iPhone X.

I've just had a painfully long chat with an apple helper and ended up with this:

Sure, totally understand your frustration with having a new device with this kind of issue. I am very sorry again, since the iCloud account is working fine, and even the gmail too, this seems to be clearly related with Yahoo! account and is out of my scope of support.

I'm not happy, but I've now installed the Yahoo app (£0.99 per month) and can now see my emails.

Hey Guys,

One of the technicians helped me to solve the problem,here is what you need to do:

Settings—->Accounts &password——>

choose yahoo mail——>choose account——>choose Outgoing server SMTP——>Choose Add Server——>host Name: smtp.mail.yahoo.com, and then your email address and your emails password, press SAVE, then you will receive email on time !

IT WORKED!
