iPhone screen dims randomly

My iPhone X Screen dims on its own For about 10-15 minutes Then gets brighter again All on its own! I do not have auto brightness on I do not have tutone on I have no settings on that would affect the screen it’s very annoying paying $1200 for a phone and this is happening. I love Apple have every single product they make.

ANY THOUGHTS ON WHATS CAUSING THIS?

Thanks!

I have been having this issue also. I have noticed it more while testing an app that is currently under development. It seems to happen when the phone has been under a considerable load. While debugging - I can see the energy usage of the app is very high. After some time the phone begins to heat up. While looking into this, I found another thread that said it was because of heat. I am tending to think this is probably right. After the phone cools off it seems to go back to normal.

I have the same problem with 2 iPhoneXs. Tested both units for”overheating problem” by positioning iphones right over vent with AC on. Check temp with digital thermometer. at the moment of dimming surface temp was 18С (70F) and 20C. Quite possible that is a problems with defective temp sensors and / or software settings.

Well, here's another update: Phone was replaced last Friday. It moderately dimmed a few times briefly, but it seemed much better overall (not as frequent, not as much dimming). Well, last night I was using it connected to a 2.4a power source. Sure enough, it dimmed significantly (30% or so) and stayed like that for several minutes. It finally brightened back up when I started doing less intensive things.

I am absolutely convinced this is some sort of heat issue, be it a bug or feature to protect various components. The problem is that Apple won't acknowledge it. Get ready for the class action suits, I guess. By that time I'll have an iPhone 12 or whatever.

I don't buy the burn-in feature explanation as I've experienced dimming when phone is not hot at all. Also, burn-in is more related to having a static image that doesn't change for a period of time. I suspect most of us are actively using the phone when we experience dimming. Certainly, there may be internal components they are trying to protect as well but I think most of the dimming is completely unnecessary.

I am not able to use my telephone outside at all! This is absolutely not a feature but a flaw in the system. I had an iPhone 6 Plus and could use it to fly a drone. I am not able to use my new iPhone X As it cannot be seen in the sunlight. I had my first iPhone X replaced only to be told it must be a software issue. Now I’m on my third phone which was ran as a new device rather than backed up, thinking this may be the problem. The problem is Apple is not acknowledging that they have a flaw in the screen. And I don’t believe it’s heat related because my phone will even Dim in the house

This is Not a safety feature because you do not get the warning. I have seen that pop up and when that happens the phone is incredibly hot! Like left in the sun hot. When my screen dims a) there is no warning b) none of the apple techs have told me my phone is doing exactly what it is supposed to do, c) they replaced my phone because it isn’t supposed to be doing what it is doing and c) there is NO way Apple would have made a product that functions this way on purpose (ie people using the product like any normal person would and It have the result that you can’t actually see the screen). This is a design defect!

I have had X for less than a month and have had this dimming problem since new but was unaware of others having same issue. Having read this entire thread and all replies it seems that Apple support both at stores and on website are are being totally dismissive, as though we are stupid and don’t understand functionality of device.

My thoughts are that the issue may not related to OS but instead be related to a bad batch of hardware relating to light sensor which inputs to CPU and OS. This is just my theory but if Apple does not find a resolution fast mine is going to be returned permanently.
